Yeah like him saying Steamkin doesn't work with Torbran you use Steamkin to get Torbran out early i run this deck in modern but you have to run destroy artifact stuff in it
43:00 I’ll bite. Isn’t it better to block gutterbones with the unused grim initiate since it has first strike? It would kill the gutterbones without dying itself. So it blocks 2 damage then you take 1 from cruel celebrant. That’s a net of +1 bringing your life total down to 2 instead of 1. Plus he now has one less creature on the board. Ultimately it doesn’t appear like it would have changed much but that action would net (compared to what did happen) You: +1hp Opponent: -1hp, +1 card in hand, -1 creature on board Edit: actually the opponent has a net 0hp, reaper deals one but celebrant heals one.
To whoever replied to my comment and (maybe) deleted it and any future readers. As I said, grim initiate has first strike. So it will deal 1 lethal damage to the 2/1 gutterbones before it has a chance to assign combat damage. Grim initiate survives and doesn’t spawn a 2/2 black zombie token replacement. The only drawback for taking this action is whether or not the one card reaper draws for the opponent alters the game before cgb scoops on his next turn upon failing to draw a win con.
43:08 second grim initiate could have blocked the gutterbones, cleared it off the board and taken 1 instead of 2, but wouldn't change the outcome otherwise. And I only got that after pausing when you challenged us and taking my time, if I was in your position i 100% would have missed much more than you did, assumed lethal and conceded. You're too modest, you do really well with red and I learn a lot from you!
@@DarkDare47 I know, but I think there's more to it.The one million game study did not explore anything other than land draws. It's be theorized that the shuffler likes to stack cards for example.
@@iknownothing-m8c I don't think I have seen that study, but I have been keeping track of it as I play for the past 6 months. It was around 90% of the time, if I keep a hand with 2 lands, I would draw only 1 more in the next 10 draws.
Those were sick blocks at the end of the last game! A lot of players would have messed up there... Consider Cavalcade a stupid deck, but if you're in a spot like that with your pants down and just a bunch of 1-drops to prevent the incoming flood of pain - that's where piloting a deck like this can become art. You went down guns blazing, bro! Beautiful!
Hey CGB. I've been having a blast with your Izzet Proliferate deck in Historic. Sulfer Falls and Pirates Pillage are the only actually historic cards besides Magister's Scepter in the side for the intimate turn meme but no one sits around long enough for that. I "went off" in 7 out of 10 games this afternoon. If standard gets you down historic is full of jank fun...though no one hangs around very long once the engine gets going. (We need the option to let Sparky take over after an opponent concedes like Duels did.)
Hey CGB sorry to hear you are getting frustrated with this archetype. As a guy who regularly plays both red and control I would like to offer some observations. when you play control and you are winning, the game goes longer because opponent doesn't realise its time to scoop, when you are winning with red the opponent concedes before you get to do cool stuff like see your spitfire get huge. So from a fun standpoint red decks don't feel good because the good times are shorter and the painful times are long especially if the opponent is able to durdle you turn after turn. From the decklist I would recommend less than 4xTobran, 3x at most because you don't want to have 2 sitting in your hand with a 20 land deck.. The idea of getting some 1/1s down and then cavalcade/chandra with Torbran is too fair to win most games as opponents will have a solution/threat themselves by turn 4. I've been experimenting with relying more on the steamkin/light up the stage combo to get a wide board by turn 4, then cavalcade or Torbran draws later will help win the game. And to make steamkin effective I have to cut a lot of the 3 drops like Chandra/spitfire/warboss in favour of skewer/rimrock/shock. e.g. turn 1 fervent champion, turn 2 steamkin, turn 3 there's a 4/4 Gruul Spellbreaker blocker, then attack with fervent champion, shock + boulder rush kills the blocker, light up the stage, and steamkin is 4/4. So it costs me a shock to remove a 4/4 blocker and I have 2 extra cards from light up the stage and 3 mana from steamkin to cast them. Other combos, 2x fervent champion + shock, 1xfervent champion + 2 rimrock hope this helps.
you would not have made a 2/2 with the grim initiates on the last game they have first strike so you could have been at 2 instead of 1 if you blocked the gutterbones still doomed on the next turn though
I love the vid title I knew exactly what was coming haha! The title also reminded me of a quote from one of my favorite shows "Dr. Horrible Sing-along blog" which says "I think this is what pain feels like!" Anyways, great show, you should check it out

I think on the last game just there was no way... the lack of lands was too absurd. if you didn't attack with with dodger, you could've double iniciative block the celebrant, so it dies before anything else, then block the reaper with one initiate, the gutterbones with steamkin and fall to 1 but take two creatures out and get rid of celebrant, but in any case, even with a land for torbran, with 3 attacking creatures you could only get 12 damage in (9 from cavalcade and 3 mre from a unblocked 1/1) in all cases, opponent would be at 13. that case would just be a tiny bit better because you wouldn't die from the first strike because of celebrant. Still, the land screw was too strong on this one. I can't even play the more competitive parts of Magic Area because there is too much mono red. I am currently building an Azorious control deck. That is where the real fun is. Azorious is awesome. i have tried to make this deck good. i have built better than yours and i have built worse than yours. yours is way more balanced than mine have ever been though. the truth is that cavalcade deck is a huge risk and not very good overall. good in theory but play is bad and the chance of actually drawing cavalcade is like(if im doin my math right) 1 in 15.
8 minutes of talk at the beginning ain't entertaining tbh, it's mono red not even a complicated deck
I'm so disappointed in you.
The one color for one week is boring
