Maybe you can leave the old one by the jet ski's on the sidewalk! 😅 but don't forget those wheels!!!
Lol, I guess I should have used the word hazy. It is amazing how different the air quality is from a small village town and a bigger city. So much smog.
With the light weight nature of your boats construction and the large surface area for solar and your already decently sized battery bank. Ever thought about going for an electric setup? Or Hybrid? Seems engine issues are the most common problem for most cruisers.
Every electric cruising boat that we have seen have such a short travel range (3-4 hours). Then you have to supplement regeneration with a diesel generator. The concept is awesome but in a crises and you have to power away from a severe weather system for 24 or 36 hours to seek safe harbor, it simply just doesn't pencil out. Affordable, safe electric cruising boats are coming, just not yet.
A few years ago I was doing some service work in an old massive hanger on Treasure Island in San Francisco it’s often used as a sound stage. I asked what the production was but it was hush hush…sort of. The crew actually had no idea they were kept in the dark, it turned out they were building part of the secretive google barge. Google hadn’t gone through proper procedures of red tape so the Coast Guard gave them the boot.
So what was the cause of the engine overheating? Did the hose kink? All the growth on the chain might have also begun blocking your thru-hulls. Did you check those, too? Was that an Italian film crew? I thought I heard him say "ciao" when he walked by.
I understand your perspective. Boston Whalers can be expensive and heavy however that is not always the case. An eleven footer would weigh less than a thirteen and could easily be powered by a modest size electric or gas outboard. The real challenge for you is the distance you are from a source of inexpensive ones - New England. Best wishes !@@linhgobenyt
Every channel I've watched has had inflatable dingy problems with seam adhesive just quitting after a while. The seams just don't last. I'm starting to think a rigid hull dingy may be a better option.
We have had our Walker Bay Genesis for 16 years and can't complain about the lifespan. We have no problems exploring other types of tenders but our number one choice would be another inflatable. The main reason is that every time a rigid dinghy comes up to basik they bump, ding and scratch the sugar scoops so easily. This time we would go for Hypalon not PVC to extend the life even more in hot tropical environments. But then again, who knows! Maybe an OC or AS tender is in our future.

Depends. If we are making way with no wind we will trade engines every few hours to keep the engine hours similar for routine maintenance. If we are motor-sailing, we idle the downwind engine to save fuel and reduce leeway. We always prefer to sail because basik can sail 2-3 times the speed under sail then under power but with little to no winds a decision sometimes must be made.
