    *Compete for Monthly Prizes on the Leaderboards
    In the video, Magnus plays an alpha mode in which the feature of losing ten seconds per failed puzzle was (mistakenly) not yet added.

      @amanch9322 4 роки тому +39

      @Craig Yates many people practice chess for years. Still they end up around 2600. Magnus can do this because of his high IQ, way above avg people. I know it's hard to digest that we all can't do this even after 100 yrs of training. Magnus was born with special calculative ability, far superior than his nearest competitors. I know many gms who work harder than magnus but still are not that good. I think people above 2500( like me) can only appreciate his true skill. Otherwise for an avg guy a puzzle of 2500 level and 2900 level are just the same. That's why many people fails to truly realize his talent.

    • @MrFlameRad
      @MrFlameRad 4 роки тому +10

      @Craig Yates exactly, intelligence is apart of it but I doubt it's everything. Now I'm not one to talk because I have like a 1300 rating but I will talk anyway. I think it's a combination of both what you and the other commenter are saying. Yes, carlsen is smarter than most people- but plenty of people are smarter than most as are plenty of chess players. And I'm willing to bet Magnus doesn't even have the highest IQ or even that close to the highest in the professional chess world. When you start certain cognitive activities at a young age, as you said, your brain is able to absorb it and become almost as comfortable with it as a language. That's why kids who learn music at a young age can usually differentiate pitch, A# from B, with the same ease that we differentiate red from blue. You're right, adults simply can't compete, the brain's plasticity has massively diminished. The highest IQs in chess are probably people that started after their childhood and still managed to get near the top just based on pure dedication

      @OriginalPuro 4 роки тому +3

      Truth be told, randomness is a term used by many and misunderstood by most.
      True randomness does not exist, even in Fisher random we already know the outcome of the pieces, it will 100% be one of the 959 lineups, that's not random at all, that is known.
      Just like you 100% know what a 6-sided die will fall on, it will 100% fall on either 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6, that is known, nothing random about it.

    I put the position at 2:11 into an engine and it's not a forced mate and it looks like you're supposed to take with the bishop then play Qxe5 which is pretty absurd for a timed puzzle.

    • @theplayfulbot8447
      @theplayfulbot8447 4 роки тому

      Well... The line magnus was thinking is Bxf2+ Rxf2, which leads to forced mate: Qc1+ Rf1 Qe3+ Kh1, Nf2+ Rxf2 (Kh1 is a known mating pattern) Qe1+ Rf1 Qxf1#, so Rxf2 at the beginning is impossible, and then he would have found Qxe5 (easy for GM because of the monstruous threat of Rh8 trapping the Queen and if somehow the Queen escapes then h2 it's a problem: Bxf2+, Kh1 Qxe5, Qh3 Rh8 Qe6 Rxh2#

    • @EGarrett01
      @EGarrett01 4 роки тому

      Yeah I was looking at that stuff, the smothered mate after Kg1 is even better where you double-check the King and then play Qg1. But having it all be invalidated with just not taking the bishop at the beginning and then having to play a non-forcing move seems like the opposite of tactics.

    Ps. Some like that challenge -- think fast. Must think wars are inevitable or something, preparing like that.
    But it is also practical for the tournament chess players too and yours are literally 'champion approved' and so very much appreciated indeed. Thanks again.
