    I reckon that the single skull is one of the hardest and most physically and mentally draining events in all of sports.

      I think you might be right, mahe drysdale is an utter nutcase to have spent his whole career in a single

      I think so. Rowing the skiff means to be a lone wolfe. You are in many ways alone - mentally, physically ... in each training session and in each race.

    Mahe doesn't even have a race start, he just gets straight into race pace and holds that for 3/4 of the race until the final 500 until he sprints

    • @csabour9

      It's like doing millions of horizontal deadlifts, so cardio is pretty much the game.

    • @samcarmel5030
      @samcarmel5030 7 років тому +13

      No, ideally, you're as light as possible with respect to how strong you are, which isn't an issue in powerlifting. Also, this event is very cardio-oriented and not as much pure power

    • @AWKnop
      @AWKnop 7 років тому +11

      Just try it and have fun. It will soon show whether rowing fits you or body is fitted for rowing. As Sam said rowing is a more endurance oriented sport, but this can be developed. You could do with a little less power training (and shift to longer series with lower weight). Good luck and have fun.

    • @AWKnop
      @AWKnop 7 років тому +2

      Be aware to get good instructions. When you decide to maintain rowing it is important to learn the technique and rhythm right (like in weight lifting) from the beginning. Bad technique from the start is difficult to correct. There are great video's around to show how you should do it (both on the ergo-meter as well as in the boat).

      I would look for a rowing club nearby and go express your interest. Simply put, learn to row in a wider single and graduate to a racer. Or maybe you might find 4s or 8s to your liking. A great sport...been doing it for 40+ years
