  • Omega-3 Sources and Daily Quantity
Omega-3 come in three molecular forms. Alpha linolenic acid (ALA) which can then be converted to docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA). ALA is less directly important while DHA and EPA are essential for omega-3 effects. ALA conversion to DHA and EPA is lesser than 5%. Let's review some of the sources of EPA and DHA and compare their quantities needed for 1 g daily DHA and EPA.

I eat Salmon 2-3 times a week and I add 3tbsp of flaxseed flour to my keto bread recipe and I've been doing this for 2 months and my skin is no longer dry and looks very healthy.

This was very helpful and I remember your lecture on what omegas did to the cells. A few years ago. Very motivating. I eat more fish. 🙏

Most farmed-salmon is GMO -- it's a cross between real salmon and an eel. Look it up.

You didn't count vegan algae omega 3 capsules. Algae is where the fish takes the DHA and EPA from. So most farmed salmon doens´t have high levels of omega3 as they´re not fed with algae.

What about the presence of toxins in fish due to pollution? This is likely to be high in farmed fish

Great lecture, thankyou. The supplement in the UK looks a lot more expensive, though?

Imagine these mind-boggling numbers: with 8 billion people on Earth, in order to provide all with the daily recommended dose of 1g through eating wild salmon, 400 thousand tons of salmon would need to be caught every single day (!).

I get my omega 3s from algae sources as I worry about all the DDT and HCH in fish, especially salmon

Flaxseed oil that is produced by cooking and high heat will oxidize omega-3 and omega-6. Remember that both are extremely easy to oxidize, and any source of this oils that contain low water content and require heat for extraction are a big no-no.
Also, omega-3 supplementation is irrelevant if you have a diet high in omega-6 and you don't reduce your omega-6 at the same time, which renders any study that doesn't control for this variable, useless.
