The line distribution on this song is insane. I'm not going to include much of mafuyu because her lines are pretty obvious imo and there's a lot of it, but there's a lot of less obvious stuff in there too.
0:42 (Ena) "These are words of love," (Mizuki) "Everyone lives like this."
Ena's main issues revolve around her insecurity when it comes to being loved. The most dramatic part of her emotional neglect was when her oft-absent father told her she wasn't skilled/tough enough to fulfill her dreams 'for her own good'. Words supposedly born out of love, that destroyed her. For Mizuki, they have been made very aware that what others consider 'normal' for someone with Mizuki's assigned sex is not what makes them happy at all. For me the line calls back to their middle school years, where an excess of social rejection forced them into the closet and made them completely miserable.
1:09 (Luka) "If I could have one wish granted," (Kanade) "it'd be to end [this joke of a play]"
Kanade is the main person dedicating herself to helping mafuyu after all and occasionally giving strength to her voice when needed.
In the first chorus,(1:19), Ena does not sing the line "I have been living my life wrong" because she doesn't really tend to look back all that much and her life priorities have rarely shifted, and Mizuki does not sing the line "All I've ever wanted was to be certain of my 'self'" because their problem was not that they didn't know who they were, it was other people's reactions.
2:03 (Luka) "In the end, everyone desperately stays true" (Mizuki) "to the ugly roles we're pressured into"
Again reminds me of Mizuki in middle school where they tried to live in the role that was expected of them.
I like that Kanade at 2:24 gets the line about everyone's wishes coming true one day considering her savior complex and how deeply she connects herself to the feelings of others.
Having Mizuki and Mafuyu (and Luka) sing "All I've ever wanted was a certain future" is pretty cruel tbh. Mafuyu is facing down a future that is not what she wants at all, and Mizuki is faced with the fact many in their society don't believe they have the right to exist as they are, and certainly not while also having a quiet or normal life. Both of them have also dealt with su1cidal ideation the most out of the four, making their future more literally uncertain.
3:20 (Ena) "Because I wished to be loved," (Mizuki) "In order to be loved, I threw away my 'self'."
A follow-through to 0:42 and another callback to their middle school selves. This line is the reason I wrote this because I find it haunting in its own context
3:24 is also connected to the previous line and a callback to its counterpart in 0:36, where Luka plays the role of a passive inner voice, and Kanade the 'director'. In this line, Kanade transfers to role of narrator, and reveals that all the staging is for an audience of no one, which allows Luka to burst forth with her (Mafuyu's) true feelings. After Luka's line, Mafuyu's recognition that the voice is her own and her subsequent resolution to leave this place, there are no more lines left that do not at least include Mafuyu singing. It is no longer a song about the fragmented expectations of others and a passive anguish, it is about how she can move forward to her own future, an active participant, due to those who have supported her.
4:08 (Mizuki and Mafuyu) "As I ran away, I saw ahead a little" (Mafuyu and Luka) "light to break my curse"
Mizuki gets the line about finding something important after running away, and Mafuyu and Luka (her feelings by proxy) get the line about finally breaking free of their curse. I'd like to think it's referencing how Miku singing reminded her of the conversations she'd had leading up to this, to be strong and protect her feelings, as well as the fact she had people behind her to support her.
I also really like that Mafuyu says "open your eyes" at the end. It signifies to me that she's finally taking her future into her own hands.
This song really feels like it's happening over the course of that one scene in Saying Goodbye to my Persona where Mafuyu confronts her mother, like internal dialogue, or the narration in a play. It feels like the culmination of a lot of effort and thought on Mafuyu's part about her life, and the things she truly wants.
Anyways I'm obsessed with this song it's brilliant
It's so scary how a video game character can be so relatable to someone
thats how you know how good a character is written, i guess its because of how much love has been put in pjsk as a whole since its basically a love letter to vocaloids
They made well their job. I love how this 4 stories connect so well with many vocaloid consumers (specially in Japan) because vocaloids are used to express what one as a human cannot and how their stories try to help people to scream and let it go, don't just swallow and die with it as a weight or burden.
Mafuyu's arc has helped me more than all of the psychologists I've seen in my entire life.
Mafuyu's mother is exactly same as my mother. The thing is Mafuyu learned how to fight while I ended up being controlled by my own narcissist mother for 30 years.
She turned into ashes already years ago, only when I followed through Mafuyu,'s stories. Only to find out that I wasn't the only one.
I wondered how will Mafuyu and her mother progress their story in the future.
i had to get on antidepressants after experiencing mafuyu's storyline. it opened up a lot i had suppressed between my mom and i and i wanted to disappear (for better wording.) This song sent me over the edge. I'm doing better now but it's unreal how this hit me.

This *this* is an arc ender song and hands down the best one. It doesn’t matter if it’s the in game version or the full version this song is good regardless of how long or short it is (unlike some songs that are better as the full version) has to be one of Mafuyus best commission songs (said one bc everyone has their own opinions and I don’t want to start a civil war over what song it better)

I was born to gush about how much this song has made me further realize I was in a toxic family situation and helped me gain the courage to act on a plan to get out with the help of my partner and friends. Not to mention, how I relate so deeply with Mafuyu. Her struggles to be a "good girl", putting on a constant facade, trying to appease an overbearing mother, and struggling to find her voice and passions until it's nearly too late hit far too hard. But through finding the right people, I was able to find what I truly wanted and I am currently working on getting out.
But alas, I am forced to simply listen to this silly little song from a silly little rhythm game.

I dont really like how Luka sound here. She sound way too similar to miku, Luka supposed to be having a smooth voice. But here it as if she pinching her nose while singing. Probably the tuning was made to make Luka's voice as close as her sekai voice as possible?
