      If the voting was a problem you would have seen it in the previous commenting format. The amount of people posting for giggles are just the same except now the new format forces us to see this a lot easier than before. Whereas before these posts would just fall off the front page, save for the few who actually try to look for these posts to reply to.

      shizzlebizzfizz Its mostly because people are posting stupid stuff to "prove" the new comment system doesnt work well, and people upvote it to "prove" it doesnt work well, so in the end its only our faults.

    This is fantastic. A few things I can hopefully add that will make it even easier.
    1) If you don't have 2 metal bowls the same size, a pot with a lid works really well.
    2) If you wet the inside of the container before you start shaking, it will catch a lot of the little pieces of garlic skim.

  • @JohnDoe-pe6iu
    @JohnDoe-pe6iu 9 років тому +15

    I tried it with just a glass jar with a plastic lid and it works! Remember you need to shake vigorously making sure that with each shake the cloves are hitting against each end of the bottle. The smashing action causes the cloves to break and loosen the skin...similar to smashing the cloves under a knife but here you are not individually smashing the life out of each clove but introducing gentle smashes on several cloves at the same time. If you cannot shake with sufficient energy to make sure the cloves get a solid impact against the end of the bottle with each shake then it wont work. Great idea and as i said work great it shaken vigorously with the proper energy and understanding!

    Fascinating. But, couldn't you just put the garlic in something like a glass jar with a lid and get the same result? Or, is there something magical with the bowls?

    I have to try this John. I just bought a pack of garlic for the first time in my life. I usually used garlic powder but I wanted to start using the real stuff. I tried peeling them by myself and it got really easy but your trick looks even easier. Plus, I want to freeze some. Thank you

    All i do is put 2, 3, 4, 5, heads of garlic in a bag and then hit the bag like a mad person with a rolling pin. Drop the garlic in to a bowl of water. the garlic falls to the bottom the skin floats. and I'm done. the garlic is peeled, its washed and the peels aren't sticky when you scoop them off the top. if you dont want to wash it.. just pick the pieces off from the bag directly. I'm just lazy and can't be bothered doing that. Enjoy! Oh yeah, I then put it in a tiny container, use an immersion blender, mince it and freeze it and wallah! Ive got garlic for a whole week. I do the same with Ginger. So my cooking time is cut in into a third.
