What's The Deal With Climbing In Israel? Alex Khazanov Explores | Climbing Daily Ep.2081
Hey, videos finally out. Thanks for cutting out all the parts where I just look awkward on camera Matt 😂
Great words Alex! Thanks for the video. ❤
Woah never thought I'd see a Mid-Atlantic Climbers tee shirt on EpicTV, let alone in Israel
I could only rep one thing :)
אם אלכס מסוגל לטפס ככה אחרי חומוס, מבחינתי הוא המטפס הכי טוב בעולם
Next time I'm in Israel I hope u show me these places to guys!
Awesome Episode ! Great insight EpicTV , thanks for sharing much LOVE and ALEX is such a nice guz and amaiying climber good pick
wise words by a strong man 😍☮
I like his socks 😆
The rock looks amazing there! I really want to go to Israel next time my church goes. To walk and climb where Jesus walked would be AMAZING! I'm also really glad Epic TV didn't shy away from the flack that comes with making a video that includes anything Israeli, let alone the country itself. That's a very brave act that not a lot of people are bold enough to do. I'm also glad that they actually called It Israel and acknowledged that it is a state. Much respect for them.
Fine update
Well said, ahi
Thank you for making this. Israel gets such a bad rap in the media but its an amazing country with wonderful warm people and amazing food!
@@jonnysolaris its interesting that you say that because whenever I hear anything on the bbc it is completely anti Israel. everything that happens is portrayed as Israels fault. the thing is, you cant tar all Israelis with the same brush just as you cant tar all Palestinians with the same. this is a video about climbing and not politics.
Doesn‘t get a bad rap in the media💀, it has a bad rap with human rights organizations and theres a good reason for that
@@louisladner897 Are the Israeli climbers to blame?
15k children massacred and still counting..

Holy sheet these comments. This isn't a political piece. This isn't about the israel-palestine conflict. If I put up a piece on valadim timanov do you all go flocking to the video spamming free Ukraine and calling the video Russian propaganda? No you don't. Stop making climbing about politics.
Please listen to the Miranda Oakley episode of the firn line podcast, she talks about climbing in Palestine. It might change your mind on how climbing is or is not political.
@@MtJochem climbing may be able to be political but this piece is not. It's not intended to be propaganda, it's not pushing a narrative about the Israel-palestine conflict. It simply documents an Israeli climber climbing at their local crag.
@@mrwhale7875 It is pushing the narrative that crags are easily accessible, while that is not the case if you are Palestinian. EpicTV might not do this on purpose, but the narrative is clearly there.
@@MtJochem so what you are saying is that if you are a Palestinian living in Israel your access to crags is diminished?
@@mrwhale7875 That is what I understood from the podcast episode.
Occupied Palestine. There is no side to apartheid or genocide. It’s not complex at all.
immagine climbing in south africa in the 70's
I guess we need to avoid climbing in the USA for all the wars it wages and the coups it has supported, in the UK because of is colonial ties and for creating the state of Israel among many others, in France due to its continuous exploitation of former colonies, in China because of what the state does to Uyghur Muslims, in Russia because of its war with Ukraine and its treatment of LGBTQ people, in Australia because of its treatment of refugees and native peoples, etc, etc, etc.
Free Palestine
Srsly?
This vids about climbing nothing else take your political shit and keep it
Now?
This is a video containing all immigrants, all of whom support Palestinian rights.
@@Grethko why are they doing sportswashing for israel then
Apartheid state.
Arpatheit means the Arabs would have less rights, but if so by definition Israel is not an Arpatheit
@@ofirsinn9635 Amnesty International documented acts proscribed in the Apartheid Convention and Rome Statute in all the areas Israel controls, although they occur more frequently and violently in the OPT than in Israel. Israeli authorities enact multiple measures to deliberately deny Palestinians their basic rights and freedoms, including draconian movement restrictions in the OPT, chronic discriminatory underinvestment in Palestinian communities in Israel, and the denial of refugees’ right to return. The report also documents forcible transfer, administrative detention, torture, and unlawful killings, in both Israel and the OPT.
this is a video about climbing and about a climber. politics is not part of this (also i completely disagree)
@@leonakadir3833 Yeah, of course you disagree. This video is showcasing climbing on land that was stripped from the native peoples. Mass killing and mass rape was instituted as forms of terror so that 750,000+ Palestinians could be forcibly removed from their homes during the Nakba.
And why all the Israeli propaganda? This is the bloodiest year for Palestinians in history aside from the Nakba. The most fascist and far-right government EVER has taken power.
It IS about politics.
@@TheLion377 its not propaganda, its a film about an Israeli climber. I've climbed in Palestine so I am well aware of the difference between being on one or other side of the fence. I was also in Israel when all the bus bombings were happening. I dont agree with the illegal settlements but I do agree that Israel has a right to exist.
#freepalestine
Sportswashing for apartheid
Showing sports happening at a given place does not inherently mean agreeing with the acts of the state...
Yes, climbers can be good people sometimes. But showcasing and promoting climbing on stolen land in an apartheid state is definitely not cool. Don't go climbing in Occupied Palestine.
Great. Let's all also stop climbing in the US. It's stolen land too. If you're going to apply logic to one country you have to apply it to others as well. Australia? Nope can't climb there. The Canadian Rockies: Nope. It's stolen. Brazil? Colonized by western counties. Don't clip bolts there. When you apply this logic to only Israel, it's not a good look.
As Alex says, the Israel-Palestine conflict is complex. Boiling it down to reductive language is irresponsible, impractical, and harmful to coming to useful and respectful ideals. Palestinians deserve better. The peace process demands more of us than binary thinking.
Can we have his words added to the next Reel Rock?
Not sure if we can ignore the elephant in the room here.
I follow mma and there is a much more easy situation to interpret with Kadyrov using that sport to give himself a good image and distract from his human rights abuse. It's not subtle.
And it's obviously much more mudded here. Do those guys in the video try to actively sportwash Israel?
Very probably not. They might very well just want to show their way of life, local crags etc. And that should be fine. But in the end that video is an invitation to ignore that conflict and enjoy Tel-Aviv, the multiple small crags, etc.
Sport is a gateway to peace and co-existence. In Israel we climb with Palestinians in some of the mutual crags. Nothing is perfect, but things are way more complex than you can possibly comprehend. When you visit Israel, you see the full story, both sides, two narratives and in general a majority on both sides that wants to live in peace and together.
The citizens on both sides are not to blame, we were born to this reality. The climbing community in Israel is not to blame for the conflict, the tourism industry in Israel is not to blame for the conflict. So declining an invitation to climb in Israel and enjoy the people, community and crags here is just being ignorant. It does not support any cause, it just turns everyone into victims. It would be like boycotting private Russian business just for belonging to Russian citizens.
I say, come to Israel, we'll show you around and climb together.
@@barakwatemberg4333
It's a difficult situation and Israeli climbers shouldn't be blamed for it of course.
The thing is, Israel is the one with the overwhelming more power and who currently kill far more. It's not about its right to protect itself. In that context tourism can quickly act as a distraction, like for Qatar.
I don't think it's unethical to enjoy climbing in Israel, but the way one would advertise it needs to be strongly examined so that it's not used wrongly. I'm not sure how to do it to be honest.
@@barakwatemberg4333 as regards russian bussiness, sport, culture - it's already been boycotting for a while
Human Rights Watch & B'Tselem rightly call Isreal an apartheid state. Free Palestine
Palestine*
In Israel ethnic discrimination and jewish supremacy are mainstream Ideologies and are founded in laws. And the climbing isn’t that great either.
