    I have a Yamaha P45 and have spent an hour or so looking for a way to record my piano in stereo. What I wasn't sure of (prior to getting the answer in this intuitive video) was since it only has a headphone port for cabled output, would I need a TS or TRS cable to get the stereo sound.
    Guess what? I now have my answer thanks to this helpful and freely given advice. I've happily subscribed and after this video, I'm headed to your channel to look for more concise and no bs content, which I'm confident I'll find.
    God bless you sir. 💯

    What I do if I want to record the audio from another keyboard and also have quantize on it is.
    If you have a sequencer in your keyboard or a separate sequencer . And your keyboard sequencer or the separate sequencer has quantize
    I ll just do what I want to record on the keyboard and then I Quantize
    the beat or Melody.
    Then I put the temple. From the keyboard or the sequencer the same as GarageBand.
    Then I’ll press play on the keyboard or on the sequencer at the same time that I start recording on GarageBand after the four beat of. GarageBand
    When you press record on GarageBand just wait for the fourth beat of the metronome.
    Sometimes when you put the same tempo from the keyboard to match with GarageBand it will stay on beat until like one minute or two minutes so you have to be careful me personally what I do is I bring up the window of the temple and I’ll put it one number down for one second and then I put it back up 1 number so it can stay on beat during the time that it’s playing and recording but you might have to do it multiple times depending how long is your song so just be careful

    Hi Pete. I have a similar casio digital piano ( with 2 headphone/outputs) and I recently buy an interface to record the sound from the piano. So, the correct cable that I should buy is the Stereo TRS Jack to 2 mono?. Also, I want to ask you if exist a balanced cable of this type. I read somewhere that it provides a better sound quality. Sorry for the questions if they are completely wrong. I'm beginner in these things. Thank you for your Helpful videos. Greeting from Chile

    • @PeteJohnsMusic
      @PeteJohnsMusic  2 роки тому +1

      Hey Richard. Happy to help out my friend. So, balanced cables only support mono, so a dual TRS cable that's balanced can only be used for a device that has separate left and right outputs. Headphone and other stereo outputs use unbalanced as they include left AND right in one. So you'll need a stereo 1/4" TRS to dual mono TS cable. Hi, I'm gonna buy the Scarlett 2i2 where you can insert 2 plug mono for recording stereo (from my keyboard) the question is, the best for recording would by by keeping the volume level of my keyboard low, and the input levels of the audio interface a bit high? or vice versa? (high volume on the keyboard and minimum level on the audio interface? Or would technically be the same?
    And second question: I'd have connected the studio in this order - 1 the keyboard - 2 the audio interface - 3 Edifiers active bafles: should I keep the level volume low in my keyboard, Scarlet (monitor) and then I could increase the volume 100% if required on the Edifier? the question is because I'll have 4 different knobs to handle!!! (keyboard / audio unit inputs / audio unit master volume / active Edifiers) and I wouldn't want my Edifieres explode! :)

    Hi Pete, just had a question regarding where to plug in your headphone jack. My piano is similar to yours where it has two stereo headphone outputs. Wouldn't you still be able to listen to the piano through the piano itself rather than monitoring through the interface? I understand that you would first want to set your gain levels correctly by plugging into the interface, but once that's done, wouldn't you be able to listen from the piano directly so that there is no latency in playing? This is a really great educational resource you're providing by the way, very beginner friendly!

    • @PeteJohnsMusic
      @PeteJohnsMusic  4 роки тому +1

      Hey there. Yes, 100%. You could just plug in to the other headphone jacks the issue comes when you want to monitor backing tracks and record over the top as you need to hear your piano and the already recorded tracks. So for solo performance, absolutely you can record and monitor direct.

    Great video! Quick question - I've always found it challenging to get adequate volume for any of my keyboards (Yamaha P125, Casiotone CTS-1, Korg EK-50) through my Alesis Multimix 4 mixer/audio interface - the keyboard out, the line ins on the mixer and the mixed output on the mixer are always max and I always get a very weak audio recording that needs to be boosted on my daw. I can get a louder signal if I use the mic/line combo jacks (that have the extra gain available) but it doesn't sound quite as good - is this just a case of a cheaper interface with lower quality/strength amps perhaps?

    Hi, I have a Steingberg UR22. The manual says it has two combo XLR/TRS inputs. Should i use a 1/4” stereo to dual 1/4 TRS splitter cable or 1/4” stereo to dual 1/4 TS? I wish to record the audio from my kawai kdp 110 piano. Awaiting your response.

      Hey there. Anything with a 1/4” stereo connection at one end and two mono connections at the other end will almost always be TS, as the cable is sending stereo audio instead of two copies of the signal as with a balanced cable. So if your gear doesn’t have separate left and right balanced TRS (in which case you would use a dual TRS cable) then just a stereo TRS to dual TS is the best to use. studiolivetoday.com/cables

      @@PeteJohnsMusic thank you for your reply. Really cleared out my confusion. Also in case I wish to record vocals and piano at the same time. (with a condenser mic, steinberg ur22 and piano with headphone jack). Since one input of the interface in this case will be used for the xlr mic cable. How shall I record piano in this situation?
