Meeting Gavin and Mark was one of the highlights of the conference for my wife and me. Wish we had met Katherine. All of your talks were excellent. As Sunday Mass was ending, I looked across the sea of people and thought: “How much better off our world would be if at least a third of the people were like these people.” As I finished that thought, I caught a glimpse of Gavin singing in the choir.
Many thanks to Mark for his comforting words about the Cardinal appointments. it gave me, and I am sure others, a sense of perspective, and hope. The high lights of the CIC were Catholic Unscripted and George Farmer. Everyone else had spoken there before. It was a real UK sensation! It was wonderful to see Gavin in the choir. It made the 12 people at our table very happy! May God bless your endeavours in Ireland and I wish I could be there with you. And yes, amazing to be in a room with 800 people you can totally trust!

Mark, thank you so much for describing what it is like for a Catholic to be among other Catholics. It made me realise in an instant that my feeling of relative social isolation, even when in the company of many, is because they aren’t my people. I haven’t my family around me, my family of fellow faithful, united by the Holy Spirit in the love of Christ. As you say, these are my people, and this Church is home.

I am sure it wasn't intended but I think reference to the number of 'UK' Cardinals was a little clumsy. The Catholic Church in England & Wales, Scotland and all of Ireland are distinct of each other. @@marklambert5232 I know. The truth is that GES is an incredibly diffuse document that gives the impression that Man has replaced God. The language and style is ambiguous and confusing where it is not simply wrong. Believers do not agree that "all things on earth should be related to man as their centre and crown". In this place we have no abiding city (Heb 14) and the lack of eschatalogical framing of this document (among much else in the various documents) gave the impression to my Father and Mother's generation that the Church had changed its teaching and therefore could not be depended on for guidance. It was simple psychology, where it was implied (especially through the liturgical changes and other practices) that what their forebears had been taught was conditionally true only. Aggiornamento was trumpeted throughout my youth as the panacea long awaited for but my parents generation were lied to. The Church had not changed; Churchmen had changed, and how! Now the conciliar chickens are coming home to roost and this is exemplified in the rarified and somewhat comical proceedings at the Synod. Whoever said that the revolution would not be televised was mistaken! Here we have the boomer generations finest in full flow doing their level best to finish off the Church as generations have known it. What they are trying to usher in will fail because essentially they are trying to construct a Church to their liking. Christs Faithful people will adhere to the Catholic Faith of their Fathers and keep on keeping on as the late great Curtis Mayfield famously sang! Cheers.

Bergoglio's intentions are clear. Vatican Council II created a new religion, the point of which is paving the way to a new kind of believer. Sideline the Saviour and salvation will no longer matter. All kinds of sin and heresy will be tolerated, if not encouraged. Novus Ordo is the Church of Christ no more, it's the church of the Rights of Man. Why strive for sainthood if you can say "Sorry, after all I'm only human" ?
Vatican II was not as Dr. Chapp suggested a Council for theologians by theologians but was a Pastoral Council conceived to draw the hearts and minds of Catholics more deeply into the sacrifice of the Mass. The documents from the Council , most beautifully, Sacrosanctum Concilium (Sacred Liturgy) Lumen gentium (The Church) Dei verbum (Divine Revelation) call Catholics to a deeper union with Christ and the Church! The situation in "Catholic" countries in the 60's as typified by Ireland today is evidence of the desperate need for that Council- Catholics attending Mass solely out of duty or to keep peace in the family, baptizing children to satisfy grandparents, etc... all reduced the faith and the Church to man's purpose. God deserves our hearts and minds as well as our mere bodily presence! That it was a Pastoral Council is also proven by the hijacking of the Council's call to develop a deeper relationship with Christ, particularly in and through the Eucharist by those who not only failed to understand the teachings of the Council but lacked any real relationship with Jesus or understanding of the Mass and thus used the pastoral dimension of the teachings to implement their own needs and desires. It is unjust to blame Vatican II for the efforts of disenfranchised 'Catholics' and shows itself to be a complete lack of understanding of the teachings of the Council. Read the documents and PRAY!
Timothy Radcliffe is a wonderful dedicated priest, and Pope Francis has too much faith in God to be “stacking” anything. And frankly it is such an egregious remark that no genuine Christian should be making it.
Instead of seeing this as the Pope “stacking” the conclave, why not look at it from the perspective of him trying to live out the Gospel as Jesus intended in the following ways: 1. The Pope’s Apostolic Authority: The Pope’s duty as the Vicar of Christ is to shepherd the Church in fidelity to the Gospel and the mission entrusted to him by Christ. His authority in appointing cardinals is part of his mandate to lead and guide the universal Church. As the successor of Peter, the Pope has the responsibility to discern who can best serve the Church’s needs, taking into account its global character, diversity, and the pressing issues of the times. 2. Faithful to the Gospel: The term “progressive” can be misleading. From a Catholic perspective, what some may label as "progressive" may simply be an expression of the Gospel's inclusive nature. Jesus Christ came to bring salvation to all people, and His ministry was marked by an openness to the marginalized, the poor, and those often overlooked by society (Luke 4:18-19). The Pope's selection of cardinals who are attentive to these same issues reflects fidelity to the Church’s mission of proclaiming the Gospel to all, particularly the least and the lost (Matthew 25:40). 3. A Universal Mission: The Church is universal, which means that it spans all cultures, nations, and walks of life. The Pope must appoint cardinals from diverse backgrounds to represent the entire Church. This ensures that the Church can address global concerns and embody the call to unity in diversity (Galatians 3:28). Choosing cardinals who prioritize issues like social justice, care for creation, and the dignity of every human person is not “stacking” the conclave, but rather ensuring that the leadership of the Church reflects the needs of the modern world. 4. St. John XXIII famously called for the Church to read the "signs of the times" and respond accordingly in his call for Vatican II. The cardinals appointed by the Pope are called to continue this mission - to uphold the truths of the faith while finding new ways to bring those truths to a changing world. 5. Unity over Division: Critics who label certain cardinals as "progressive" might unintentionally sow division within the Church. Yet, Christ Himself prayed for unity among His disciples (John 17:21). The Catholic Church must work toward unity, despite differences in opinions or approaches. My specific interest is direct menial personal service, tho. But I attend the Latin mass at St Mary's near downtown Kalamazoo, MI. Father Jose offers the mass in perfect conformity of body and spirit. It's an unbarable blessing. I find it interesting that so many conservatives complain about Francis "stacking" the consistory with his supporters. If the Pope were himself a conservative, and recruited none but extreme conservatives to the cardinalate, such believers would applaud his decisions to restrict his selections to true "supporters of Catholic tradition." It is inevitable that any pope would choose like-minded clergy for advancement. As for relativism, it is a fiction invented by pious believers, particularly Catholics. I have never seen a person accused of "relativism" describe himself/herself as a relativist, and as for the "dictatorship of relativism" I have yet to hear of any evangelists for it, or anyone claim that relativism is the "absolute truth."
It would help me believe that your opposition to my queerness is purely doctrinal, rather than visceral, if you could please offer the Bride another place to start looking for a clue to prove that queerness was within the bounds of holiness all along. Meeting Gavin and Mark was one of the highlights of the conference for my wife and me. Wish we had met Katherine. All of your talks were excellent. As Sunday Mass was ending, I looked across the sea of people and thought: “How much better off our world would be if at least a third of the people were like these people.” As I finished that thought, I caught a glimpse of Gavin singing in the choir.

It made me realise in an instant that my feeling of relative social isolation, even when in the company of many, is because they aren’t my people. I haven’t my family around me, my family of fellow faithful, united by the Holy Spirit in the love of Christ. As you say, these are my people, and this Church is home.

I am sure it wasn't intended but I think reference to the number of 'UK' Cardinals was a little clumsy. The Catholic Church in England & Wales, Scotland and all of Ireland are distinct of each other.

The language and style is ambiguous and confusing where it is not simply wrong. Believers do not agree that "all things on earth should be related to man as their centre and crown". In this place we have no abiding city (Heb 14) and the lack of eschatalogical framing of this document (among much else in the various documents) gave the impression to my Father and Mother's generation that the Church had changed its teaching and therefore could not be depended on for guidance. It was simple psychology, where it was implied (especially through the liturgical changes and other practices) that what their forebears had been taught was conditionally true only. Aggiornamento was trumpeted throughout my youth as the panacea long awaited for but my parents generation were lied to. The Church had not changed; Churchmen had changed, and how!
Now the conciliar chickens are coming home to roost and this is exemplified in the rarified and somewhat comical proceedings at the Synod. Whoever said that the revolution would not be televised was mistaken! Here we have the boomer generations finest in full flow doing their level best to finish off the Church as generations have known it. What they are trying to usher in will fail because essentially they are trying to construct a Church to their liking. Bergoglio's intentions are clear. Vatican Council II created a new religion, the point of which is paving the way to a new kind of believer. Sideline the Saviour and salvation will no longer matter. All kinds of sin and heresy will be tolerated, if not encouraged. Novus Ordo is the Church of Christ no more, it's the church of the Rights of Man. Why strive for sainthood if you can say "Sorry, after all I'm only human" ?

Vatican II was not as Dr. Chapp suggested a Council for theologians by theologians but was a Pastoral Council conceived to draw the hearts and minds of Catholics more deeply into the sacrifice of the Mass. The documents from the Council , most beautifully, Sacrosanctum Concilium (Sacred Liturgy) Lumen gentium (The Church) Dei verbum (Divine Revelation) call Catholics to a deeper union with Christ and the Church! The situation in "Catholic" countries in the 60's as typified by Ireland today is evidence of the desperate need for that Council- Catholics attending Mass solely out of duty or to keep peace in the family, baptizing children to satisfy grandparents, etc... all reduced the faith and the Church to man's purpose. God deserves our hearts and minds as well as our mere bodily presence!
That it was a Pastoral Council is also proven by the hijacking of the Council's call to develop a deeper relationship with Christ, particularly in and through the Eucharist by those who not only failed to understand the teachings of the Council but lacked any real relationship with Jesus or understanding of the Mass and thus used the pastoral dimension of the teachings to implement their own needs and desires. It is unjust to blame Vatican II for the efforts of disenfranchised 'Catholics' and shows itself to be a complete lack of understanding of the teachings of the Council. Read the documents and PRAY!

Timothy Radcliffe is a wonderful dedicated priest, and Pope Francis has too much faith in God to be “stacking” anything. And frankly it is such an egregious remark that no genuine Christian should be making it.
Instead of seeing this as the Pope “stacking” the conclave, why not look at it from the perspective of him trying to live out the Gospel as Jesus intended in the following ways:
1. The Pope’s Apostolic Authority: The Pope’s duty as the Vicar of Christ is to shepherd the Church in fidelity to the Gospel and the mission entrusted to him by Christ. His authority in appointing cardinals is part of his mandate to lead and guide the universal Church. As the successor of Peter, the Pope has the responsibility to discern who can best serve the Church’s needs, taking into account its global character, diversity, and the pressing issues of the times.
2. Faithful to the Gospel: The term “progressive” can be misleading. From a Catholic perspective, what some may label as "progressive" may simply be an expression of the Gospel's inclusive nature. Jesus Christ came to bring salvation to all people, and His ministry was marked by an openness to the marginalized, the poor, and those often overlooked by society (Luke 4:18-19). The Pope's selection of cardinals who are attentive to these same issues reflects fidelity to the Church’s mission of proclaiming the Gospel to all, particularly the least and the lost (Matthew 25:40).
3. A Universal Mission: The Church is universal, which means that it spans all cultures, nations, and walks of life. The Pope must appoint cardinals from diverse backgrounds to represent the entire Church. This ensures that the Church can address global concerns and embody the call to unity in diversity (Galatians 3:28). Choosing cardinals who prioritize issues like social justice, care for creation, and the dignity of every human person is not “stacking” the conclave, but rather ensuring that the leadership of the Church reflects the needs of the modern world.
4. Tradition and Innovation: Catholic tradition is not static but dynamic. The Church has always discerned how to apply the unchanging truths of the faith in new circumstances. St. John XXIII famously called for the Church to read the "signs of the times" and respond accordingly in his call for Vatican II. The cardinals appointed by the Pope are called to continue this mission - to uphold the truths of the faith while finding new ways to bring those truths to a changing world.
5. Unity over Division: Critics who label certain cardinals as "progressive" might unintentionally sow division within the Church. Yet, Christ Himself prayed for unity among His disciples (John 17:21). The Catholic Church must work toward unity, despite differences in opinions or approaches. The Pope’s appointments aim at fostering this unity by ensuring a broad range of voices that remain faithful to the core tenets of the faith, while addressing the unique challenges of the present time.
The Pope’s appointments are not about “stacking” the conclave, but about ensuring that the Church continues to reflect the Gospel’s universal call to love and serve all people. The Church must be a place of welcome, compassion, and dialogue, always striving to proclaim the truth of Christ in a way that touches every human heart.

But I worship G-d in every breath I draw, in every dead heart I bring back to life, and in every sobbing and cackling prayer I start and end every damned day with. My specific interest is direct menial personal service, tho. I am not the bride, but I can be her handmaid, and I can worship G-d through artfully loving any of the individual gems in His crown that will allow me to serve them.
But I attend the Latin mass at St Mary's near downtown Kalamazoo, MI. Father Jose offers the mass in perfect conformity of body and spirit. It's an unbarable blessing. All I need now is a private abbey.
I find it interesting that so many conservatives complain about Francis "stacking" the consistory with his supporters. If the Pope were himself a conservative, and recruited none but extreme conservatives to the cardinalate, such believers would applaud his decisions to restrict his selections to true "supporters of Catholic tradition." It is inevitable that any pope would choose like-minded clergy for advancement. As for relativism, it is a fiction invented by pious believers, particularly Catholics. I have never seen a person accused of "relativism" describe himself/herself as a relativist, and as for the "dictatorship of relativism" I have yet to hear of any evangelists for it, or anyone claim that relativism is the "absolute truth."
