Actually, the error with Bowser’s DThrow isn’t connected to character weight at all! But it also is! It’s because, in Melee, Brawl and Smash 4, the duration of throw animations are based on character weight, and Bowser’s down throw against Jigglypuff and Mr. Game and Watch skips over the one frame that actually does the damage. How light they are doesn’t fuck up the damage calculation (I think. I’m 99% sure weight doesn’t affect damage.), but rather it speeds up the animation in a way that removes the damage hitbox.

The reason doctor mario is “a tad slower” is because all of his aerial attacks have more landing lag, other than that the characters are complete clones movement wise
I don’t think being able to hurt yourself in the rest area is necessarily an oversight. It may have been changed in later games, but at the time they probably just figured it’s on the player if they choose to give themself a disadvantage for some reason.
I remember the master hand glitch, you had to put in button combinations to do his moves. I always thought it was cool they even had his move set mapped out
That first glitch with Whispy and the swordies is so damn specific I genuinely don't know how people even found that out. Two characters on one stage at a specific time with two frames? How the FUCK?
Apparently that one’s not a glitch, sakurai admited that they were aware of it and left it in on purpose because of its utility. But it’s use in competitive play lead the team to remove it from later installments.
That's a double edged sword. For pure bugs like the Whispy bug sure, but Melee as we know it would not exist if Nintendo got their dirty hands on it after release. Same goes for a lot of fighting games that are over patched.
I think in the case of fighting games I think patches are for the better but for things handled by the Smash dev team looking at the European patches for 64 and Melee they were prob worse version of the games to play imo even to this day Ultimate has a lot of changes that makes me scratch my head that were either unecessary or just worse for the games meta (not to say there arent any good balance changes) but thats kinda subjective all in all
I thought this was gonna be a whole video on the history and creation of Super Smash Bros. Melee and how it brought forth the majority of the competitive community.
5:14 Wrong. The trophy title reads "マグナムキラー", which is the Japanese name for the Banzai Bill. The trophy description begins with a description of the bullet bill enemy, true, but that description only serves to emphasize the differences from banzai bill enemy, which is described in the 2nd half of the trophy's text. Is there really nobody that knows Japanese on the DYKG team? Edit 5:28 "But the game origin wasn't fixed." The game origin in the Japanese version is correct, reading "スーパーマリオワールド(SFC)", the Japanese name for Super Mario World. The US release made it wrong. @@WiredFLIPxNASTY That's unfortunate, I lost a few games when moving from Cali to Nevada too, it sucks.

Facts
Every subsequent Smash game is better than Melee.
Don't @ me.
@@justinnzamora5366 They've gotten progressively worse lmao
Tbh thought it would be more of gameplay mistakes like Marth's grab range and the such, but it is very interesting to see all these mistakes here
The real mistake was the friends we made along the way
wait
Well, considering last year's July, it's not wrong.
Roy damaging himself in the rest area has to be one of the most redundant oversights
"Melee was a mistake."
Just like Anime, melee is always "dying" and gets "saved" every 5 years or so :)
-nintendo, probably
A beautiful one
Yes i finally found this channel again I'm so happy to find this vid in my recommend
Okay, this explains the grab joke in TerminalMontage’s newest video! 😆
Not exactly. The Marth grab joke is because in Melee, Marth's (and since he was based off of Marth, Roy as well) standing grab is one of the largest grab boxes in the game. There's a classic video showcasing Marth's grab even outrangibg Yoshi's standing grab.
@@JAMllostthegame it doesn’t outrange yoshi’s grab. It’s just that yoshi’s grab was misaligned and couldn’t grab thin characters
@@shrike_8136 You're thinking of Yoshi's dash grab which is known to go into the Z-axis and is why it doesn't grab thin characters. There's a popular video of Axe showcasing this titled something along the lines of "Smash is a 3D game."
I always thought it was cool they even had his move set mapped out
And yet there are still so many people who praise this game as the perfect installment, despite some real gameplay-relevant bugs.
That first glitch with Whispy and the swordies is so damn specific I genuinely don't know how people even found that out. Two characters on one stage at a specific time with two frames? How the FUCK?
I wonder the heck people found out about the Master Hand Glitch in the first place.
My theory is Marth and Roy are secretly trees.
Please cover the black hole glitch I loved that
Terminalmontage: *makes video*
DYKG: Yes.
... what
Terminalmontage is always a parallel universe ahead us
Hearing asumsaus be mentioned made me smile
Did you know?
They're called overalls.
"dungarees" lmao
It's almost like different countries have different words for stuff.
Dungarees > overalls
Wasn't expect a smash bros. video. Can't wait for the new fighter reveal during tomorrow's Nintendo Direct!
I love melee :) good game that I made so many friends from :)
Meelee fans when they see this video: Impossible. Perhaps the archives are incomplete.
Melee is sick

Super Smash Bros Melee has alot of Glitches but still a fun game. Thanks for the video DIdyouKnowGaming it's great knowledge.
Is this a reupload? Because I feel like I've seen them talk about the same trophy mistakes a long time ago.
You're right, Marth's grab really was a mistake.
ahh so that's where the joke in terminal montage's subspace emissary came from
which one?
I'm assuming the grab
I never played Melee but I all ways love this game secrets & history also the rest of the series as well
You missed the one where characters slide weirdly if they airdodge into the ground at certain angles.
Apparently that one’s not a glitch, sakurai admited that they were aware of it and left it in on purpose because of its utility. But it’s use in competitive play lead the team to remove it from later installments.
@@Fanatic_Foremem pretty sure they were joking
@@Fanatic_Foremem It is a glitch. Sakurai just chose to leave wave dashing in because they thought it wouldn't be abused, like it ended up being.
@@brixan... Nope. Wave dashing is a mistake. It was never supposed to be in the game.
@@psap29 that doesn't mean the person wasn't joking...
happy 20th anniversary super smash bros. melee!!! :3
favorite mistake is still princess daisy's 3rd eye.
Thankfully we do live in a time that stuff like this can get patched.
That's a double edged sword. For pure bugs like the Whispy bug sure, but Melee as we know it would not exist if Nintendo got their dirty hands on it after release. Same goes for a lot of fighting games that are over patched.
I think in the case of fighting games I think patches are for the better but for things handled by the Smash dev team looking at the European patches for 64 and Melee they were prob worse version of the games to play imo
even to this day Ultimate has a lot of changes that makes me scratch my head that were either unecessary or just worse for the games meta (not to say there arent any good balance changes) but thats kinda subjective all in all
I thought this was gonna be a whole video on the history and creation of Super Smash Bros.
The trophy has absolutely no "errors" in the Japanese version.
Always loved Melee, childhood memories
"more deadlier" lol
This is capturing _ridiculous_ detail 😱
Mistakes or not I still think that Super Smash Bro’s Meele was a dope game and yes a few of those things have happened to me back in the day. People can complain about some of those mistakes all they want. But I think they were great😎👍🏽💯
AsumSaus should’ve voiced this one!!
