Yet again, some stunning views/videography. Marina, your face was an absolute picture when you saw that the canal had frozen over - "kid in a sweet shop" sprang to mind. Hope you had an easy job/solution to fix the dinghy. Warmer weather should be just around the corner for us all. Stay safe & keep well both of you. 👍🏻💙
There is something enchanting on the Cut when it is frozen, there's a kind of hush that you don't get anywhere else. Peaceful and I suppose magical in its own way. Keep that kettle topped up you two, and of course stay safe and warm
Hello Marina & Myles 😆 what a different side of narrowboat life as well as the beautiful wintery scenic views, u also have the dangers of ice covered canal, slippy gang planks and roof to contend with. I'm sure it won't take Myles long to repair the dinghy with his skills. Thanks for a great vlog as usual 😄 stay warm stay safe till next week 👍Simon xxx💜
Hi Miles and Marina. Another great Vlog. I hope your Dingy is going to be OK. Its always a pleasure to be part of your journey. Stay warm and take care. All the best.
hi guys you have done it again, fantastic footage and sound track. Please keep it going. We have had a few dark moments in our life recently, your filming reminds us of what we have to look forward too again. Thank you.
Marina, the look on you face at 8:00 when you discovered the canal was frozen was beautiful. Hope you manage to fix the dinghy. Take care and stay safe. Martin.
Fiberglass is pretty easy to work with if you dont expect an aesthetically appealing result. It would only cost a few quid to repair the leak in the stem and reinforce the transom. You will need some warm weather before you tackle an outdoor fiberglass project though. I always enjoy your videos, stem to stern peace, quiet and thoughtful reflection,... on positives and negatives as well . I think you are both a better fit on the canals than in the busy mayhem of London!! You seem happy and calm there and that helps your viewers be happy and calm too,...thanks!
A very enjoyable and gentle insight into your lives on the canal network. If you get serious about jigsaws you could get a jigsaw roll for storing part finished ones.
Beautyful view around in the winter... To get out safely please attach some wooden gaurds which you can secure over boat sides also good option is to attach hard sandpaper to the top of the wooden plank which will help you walk safetly. Big Like#935

In the US we have a product called JB Weld. It’s a plumbers epoxy and I’ve used it to repair a kayak with a similar hole situation. I’m sure there’s a similar product there that can save the dinghy. :)
Another enjoyable vlog. Cheer up. Spring can’t be too far off. I’m in Maine and it’s still full winter here. We had snow today. Heard this has been a very cold winter in the UK.
you can sand down the surface of your boat and then apply fiberglass fabric ( roving woven and mat 2 layers of the roving woven ad one in the middle mat ) and resin to make your boat stronger and fix the holes on a day over +10c
Great vlog as usual. You were moored up at my summer time fishing spot. You should come and do the K&A in the summer it looks so different. A lot less mud aswel.
Ohhhhhhhh Marina you make me feel cold when I see you outside despite the fact we had a miserable week weather wise .Temps as low as -20c then snow about 3 inches followed by ice pellets followed by freezing rain which turned into a 6 inch solid mushy ice which just turned to solid ice in the blower and impossible to get rid when the driveway is75 feet long and 25 feet wide to the rescue came my grand son with his.So keep safe keep warm it will soon be spring my wife says ....but I'm not so sure. Hugs to you both. XX
That giant plant you tried to high five is a Gunnera Magna Carta the leaves can get up to 2m in width, so I heard the species was around in prehistoric times.
I’m thinking this one took a long time editing. It shows anyway. Really well done!!!!!! Your hard work is appreciated here. Liked the cartoon llamas on the hill 😂
Crickey that's bloody cold guys. We're at 41 degrees south on the north west coast of Tasmania. The roaring forties are doing their thing... cold and very windy here. 👍🍻🇦🇺 @sailingpopeye
Hi Guys. Not sure when this was filmed but I know the location you are in well. Just be aware there is a bike and generator thief operates regularly in this area. Normally between Trowbridge and Devizes. Lock everything down tight and look after yourselves.
Hey Guys, we always enjoy the Alba series and wanted to pass along some info on patching the dinghyl We have something called JB Water Weld here in the States and its a great, strong, quick patch! I'm sure you can find it or something similar at any UK hardware store!
Excellent video really enjoyed watching it you need some wooden treds going across your gang blank so you don't slip and maybe one on the bottom so it won't slip off the edge of the boat ☺👍
It’s better when the canal is frozen over, not to move, any ice can be propelled into the side of other boats and damage them. Sorry about your dinghy, we haven’t got beyond this vlog to see what you do lol. 🥰
Hi Marina Myles, you had me worried when I read the title of this video hole in my boat I thought you meant Alba don’t do that again lol that was bad luck damaging your dingy but I’m sure you can repair it nice pice of bent stainless steel on the bow screwed and then fibreglass over you could go icebreaking then ,Marina just love your laugh so sexy, enjoyed the video very much take care keep safe keep warm,John 🌹👍☃️☃️🌨🌨
With any luck at all this will be too late for the ice and snow this winter but a good treatment for your plank might be crushed or broken walnut shells. Its a good idea for just a wet and slippery plank too. You put a coat of paint on the plank and before it dries sprinkle the walnut shells on it then paint it again. I'll bet you can find crushed walnut shells at many of the ships chandlery's along the canal. Its an often used method for non skid surfaces on boats here in Canada. Environmentally friendly and inexpensive too!
First thing you need to do is confirm that there are 1,000 pieces in a 1,000 piece jigsaw puzzle. If you find you have 1,001pieces, you then have to find the duplicate and remove it! Now, begin assembling! LOL
Good Nz morning Miles and Marina. I'm curious. Why were you breaking the ice.? I thought Uk was in lockdown so you can't travel. I see another boater go past. From down here, we read and hear from close friends, in a different part of Uk, that they can't move. Other narrow boat channels I'm linked to, seem to be moving. Am I missing something.?? Love your channel. Btw, where I live, our temps are going to max at 27°C...today. It's almost our autumn. Take care guys and stay safe.
@@CruisingAlba thankyou for your response guys and thanks for clearing that up. As I've said in previous comments, I really love your channel. And I couldn't imagine you going against the regulations. Um the only ice I see is with my whiskey. Just saying. Keep safe, until next time. Cheers B.
How do you catch a polar bear you cut a hole in the ice open up a can of peas and put the peas around the hole in the ice and when the polar bear comes up to take a pea you kick him in the ice hole
Wayne here looked at the video poor little boat .I use gorilla glue on old cars I rebuild it works on steel fiber glass boy almost anything you can have Google help you let me know what u come up with.
5 min epoxy or siliatex silcone or glue anything will be better then tape....... elmers glue,,, I give the tape no more then 3 to 5 days. if you dont use it..... CHEERSSSSSS :-)))
You are such a nice young couple. I love the level of drama you inject. Not too serious, just enough to keep us interested!
The noise that ice made when Miles chucked the ice onto the ice shelf was amazing! Really captured some great moments there! Lovely vlog

Beautiful filming of the icy conditions , love how you make things look and feel whatever the weather. Hope your poor dinghy is going to be ok 🥺
Love that sound.....when you throw it!
Don't think I have ever gotten through one of your vlogs without smiling at some point - lol.
A hoar frost..a grayish-white crystalline depositor frozen water vapour formed in clear still weather on vegetation, fences etc.
Beautiful 👍

Nail roof shingles to the plank. Gives good grip.
First - get a new pkank!
One without a notch cut out of it. I keep expecting to see it snap.

That opening sequence was one of the most beautiful and evocative that I have ever seen on UA-cam 👌❄🕉
agree agree ,the footage and sound track put together by this 'team' is fantastic

A lovely episode. I loved hearing the assorted sounds of your day. Music selection is always perfect.

RainX will prevent ice sticking as tightly. Also stops fogging on bathroom mirrors. And inside windows.

Hold on there Ralph, sounds like just getting out your house is a big adventure! Sending you love 💜🥰
So, thats how the Dinghy taking a leak. xD
That giant plant you tried to high five is a Gunnera Magna Carta the leaves can get up to 2m in width, so I heard the species was around in prehistoric times.
really love your vid's and your adventures!
Add a piece of aluminium or steel angle to the front of the dingy to protect the fibreglass.
I’m thinking this one took a long time editing. It shows anyway. Really well done!!!!!! Your hard work is appreciated here. Liked the cartoon llamas on the hill 😂
Great vlog looked a bit slippy. I hope you manage to fix the dingy. X
Wow good filming in the dinghy.
Go "Steadycam Marina!"
You should staple chicken wire to the plank to make it less slippy in wet and icy weather 👍
You still have your car! Not many boaters do. It must be abit of a worry leaving it parked for such along time.
So Coooold , definitely unaccustomed to your weather now . XX

That was a cold video! Roll on Spring!
Yep get some epoxy putty and keep it on hand for those little dings. Selleys or 3m heaps of types about. Work on surf boards too.
😍 watching now 😆 👍
" I broke the dingy. There's a hole in the front" ICE BERG AHOY

What a lovely area you are moored in. Those frosty scenes across the fields were something special. Have you reached Bradford on Avon yet?
Get a sheet of rubber for the plank. Will really help on grip.
Chicken wire works as well. Used on wooden walkways in the Falklands.
Like the ice but not in a boat. Have fun and stay safe.
stunning views guys x
Really enjoyed the vlog guys 😊

I’m not sure it’s the K&A that’s not dingy friendly. I think it might be that M&M aren’t dingy friendly.............😂
Looks like that here in Texas this morning, temperatures here is about -12°C or 24°F very cold 🥶 good video‼️
Think ur fix the dinghy with fibreglass tape and resin. Love your natural vlogs. Really great. Thank u.
A strip of chicken wire tacked on with horseshoe tacks or staples. Would work well on the gang plank.

the ice where I am is 435mm thick , we spent over 2 wees where we never got above -25c
Lovely vlog! I would love to include some clips in the next vloggl episode, please let me know if you are happy for me to do so?
Could you please maybe do a night time rotine?
Lovely idea Laura!
What do you guys do for work??

I understood cruising in ice removes your "BLACKING", so another job for the spring.
How do you catch a polar bear you cut a hole in the ice open up a can of peas and put the peas around the hole in the ice and when the polar bear comes up to take a pea you kick him in the ice hole
. . . if a polar bear sits on the ice too long does he get polaroids?
🤣
Have either of you ever fallen into the water by accident ?
Hi Lynne, nope never!
OMG. You should not be out in the dingy like that on a freezing canal without lifejackets.

Why do you not wear a safety device when in that dinghy....need to nail some cross bars on the gang plank so you will not slip on it......
Your poor little Dingey
