Yes he shouldn't worry about other UA-camrs doing the same content - I don't watch EVERY UA-camr. I don't have time, for starters, but mainly there's only some that I like.
I like watching his videos, so if there's a review or trip, I'd prefer to watch him doing it rather than someone else.
Couldn’t agree more. I watch Kent survival but have no idea who the other UA-camr referenced is. Comparison is the thief of joy.

Man I hear you about being a creator on YT isn’t what it was.
I have seen major drops in my views on my videos over the past year. I have been making YT videos for the past 8 years, 260K subscribers.
Now with the algorithm changes it seems I don’t even make the money back on what I have invested into each video I make, that also doesn’t even come close to my editing time, that’s another loss.
Do you hear from numerous subscribers that YT has somehow unsubscribed them from your channel? I hear that all the time.
I hope you find a balance and something that works for you.

I know subscribers (including the wife) who doesn't get notified about new videos even though she does all the bell things. UA-cam is constantly offering new stuff, a lot which isn't relevant to me. I think it's the videos they can earn more revenue on. But I'm only guessing. It's certainly getting harder as a UA-camr but it's still better than being the factory worker that I was before.

Hello. I see you enjoyed doing multi-day trails Paul. Well, not too far to travel from Sheffield is the Dales Way..campsites and wild camping pisdible pubs at some places, and not as busy as WHW, but with its own atmosphere, and interesting features and people, geology community projects, history all in small doses without lectures needed ! Why dont you give it a go, using your gear, enjoying it for itself, as would we, plus we would enjoy a natural, personable, presenter, plus any comments on handy kit, or no need for, etc etc. if you can find a way to afford it

i see alot of big channels evolving, just an idea but you must have tons of gear could you not go down the kent survival route, i know you say you dont really want to do wildcamps all the time but mixing it up with different gear is really working for kent ...... im completely with you on the youtube thing though theres a billion channels doing the same wildcamping or van life, how do you stand out even if your established and then theres the channels that seem to put very little effort in their vids and get huge views nothing really computes on youtube anymore, its a tough gig mate but your a good egg keep going buddy

One thing I don’t do! Believe a single UA-camr video of how wonderful something is and it must be bought. I do like to know how great a route maybe that is could do myself.

Social media needs content and viewers is how they make way more money than you. Just do your thing the way you want to. Unless you want to be a you tube billionaire ( I don’t think you do ).
Chasing the UA-cam dream is their dream they love people to be hooked as content creators and punters watching.
I just spent 2 months in Europe riding my bike and videoing. But the video is a bit pants and it’s so hard to make a decent video. The work put in to make a decent video and not a 15 second clip is immense.

Personally, i dont want extreme camping ( i dont want extreme ANYTHING) I'm looking for a little budget tent for (possibly) occasional weekend trips after my half-day Saturday shift.
I just want ideas and thoughts from a normal, average matey type of guy, friendly, not egotistical, not dynamic, just normal and friendly, someone you think you could share a pint with.
Thats all. You and kent survival fit the bill, even though Andy goes a bit OTT with the stuff he uses, pricewise but then, im a tight bugger. If i spend 300 quid i expect a car with good tyres and 11 months MOT.

Why not do some bushcraft or survival based vids?
There are three main camping channels I watch. Kent Survival, WildBeare and Paul Messner. Keep doing what you’re doing. It doesn’t have to be a wild stealth camp in an improbable location. I enjoy the slice of life down to earth take on the gear camping and the outdoors.

Hey Paul, I was one of the many new viewers in 2021 and have enjoyed lots of content from you. From my perspective i was looking for camping videos and your channel came up as a suggestion. I assumed that you were a very established camping video creator due to the natire of your videos and the number of subscribers you had. I didnt really think about your origins so I just assumed that's what you did, and did it well I might add.
Your brand, to me, is about camping and that's what I would tune in for, but as a personality you have a very likeable and watchable style and so long as your new content isnt too far removed from what Im used to, I'll keep watching.
Interestingly I havent actually subscribed despite watching all of your videos. Not sure why that is? And the algorithm has only just today July 30th 2024 recommended this video to me. I'll click sunbscribe when Ive finished typing lol.
Anyway, hope my ramblings are useful in some way and best of luck with this new direction :-D
I literally started watching you recently and I like the fact you are a just a genuine, normal day to day british man. I don't want to watch all of this influencer crazy clickbait on the verge of death thing. That's not what I'm going to be doing, I just want to learn about regular wild camping from a regular person.
My unassuming fledgling channel will never grow...and I'm fine with that. I love my family too much🥰

There might be people doing the same thing but it comes down to the personality of the presenter. I only watch a few people so it doesn't matter what others are doing on their channels. I've just found Your channel and really enjoy it

I started wild camping a while ago, I was hooked after our first time out. And because of that wanted to upgrade my gear and invest a bit of cash into it. After spending weeks watching American back packers telling me "don't do this" and "big mistakes backpackers make" and every other click bait title they could think of to tell me the same thing over and over and honestly state the bleeding obvious I found your channel. I was looking for a stove. I think it was one of your older videos you were comparing 3 stoves one of which was the stove I now own. The soto windmaster. A stove you recently had in another video with a jetboil and the soto came last 😂 anyway I really like your videos and they have helped me alot. That's it really just wanted to say thanks I really like your content 😊
Yeah, UA-cam grows and changes. Then there is the A.I. element to look out for. Good content really matters.

60 people can go camping at the same place with the same gear, and they can have 60 different experiences. Different weather, different opinions, different sites, etc.
Why do people go camping and hiking at the same places over and over again? If it was a carbon copy of the previous times, why would they do it? Every camping experience is different.
As a viewer i dont look at it as a bad thing i multiple people do the same thing. I look at it as a good thing, because now there's more of what i like in the list of things I want to watch.
I dont think i've ever watched 2 camping videos and thought "man i feel like i've been here before"
There is one important thing that you are completely overlooking. You can film the exact same trail or camp and there is something always unique about it.

Why do folk subscribe to you rather than dave who walked the same trail? You. You are the presenter. You are the unique selling point of your own content.
There's a reason why people watch the BBC News instead of ITV News or vice versa. Its the format, its the presentation and its the presenters.
Please make a playlist of all of your June videos. I have a close relative that is a published author and does similar challenges with writing, i.e. 5000 words a day for a month, or whatever the number is, just to keep creative juices flowing. Great idea, Paul.

Personally speaking I'm much more likely to watch a shorter video (under 15mins) than a longer one. When it gets over 25 minutes I tend not to watch.
Just go with what your heart-gut tells you, like the orthers have said your not acting, you seem like a nice bloke someone I would enjoy having a pint with at the local pub.
I did youtube for awihle I just didnt have the time to put the work in , I worked as a a mechanic for many years ansd then switched to media work, I dont like working for a company but sometimes you have to, I got bills to pay off, but I'm getting there.

Like your channel Paul,always an enjoyable watch,but...I can't stand the term 'wild camp'.This only seems to have happened when UA-cam started.Been camping since I was a lad,in the middle of nowhere and campsites it's just camping.May be it's an age thing and that's my grumpy side I'm growing into.Shit I hope I'm not turning into Victor Meldrew😮

I totally agree, seems as though everyone is jumping on the band bandwagon now! I’ve done UA-cam videos for 18months now and only gained 12 subscribers in that time! Seems pointless trying anymore mate

Keep at it mate. There are a lot of us who live vicariously watching your stuff. I would love to spend more time outdoors, not filming myself😊, but just can't for a number of reasons.
What about adding a podcast element to your channel and interview people like ex SAS, people who are mountaineering people, people who have survival stories etc
Id seriously consider it. Keep your usual stuff, but evolve and add a new element. Sometimes just seeing say you for example and a person with an amazing story just chatting is great 😊
