Tom Bell & Kalon Boston | In Search of the Best Policies for Translational Geroscience
Geroscience formerly studied aging as an inevitable fact of life. Now it offers a growing number of ways to slow and even reverse human aging. These new treatments will attract large and eager demand from the many people who want stay well as they get older. But what jurisdictions will offer the most fertile ground for geroscience research, development, and commercialization? Working under a grant from Emergent Ventures, Tom and Kalon are writing a report that seeks to identify the best public policies for translating geroscience from the bench side to the bedside. They invite your thoughts about how geroscience can fulfill its potential to cure human aging effectively, safely, and economically.
Prof. Tom W. Bell earned a J.D. from the University of Chicago, practiced law in Silicon Valley and Washington, D.C., and served as a policy director for the Cato Institute before joining the faculty of Chapman University Fowler School of Law. He teaches all of the first-year common law courses and electives in high-tech, entertainment, and intellectual property. Bell writes about special jurisdictions, copyright, Internet law, prediction markets, and the Third Amendment (the one about quartering troops). He created Ulex, the open source legal system, used in Próspera ZEDE’s Roatán Common Law code and the Catawba Indian Nation’s Green Earth Zone. Bell recently recorded an updated audio version of Your Next Government? From the Nation State to Stateless Nations (Cambridge University Press 2018). He serves as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Special Jurisdictions and advises The Seasteading Institute (pro bono), Pronomos Capital, and Free Society Project, among others.
Kalon Boston is currently a law student at Stanford University and the co-founder of Levee Health, a health tech startup building an integrated evidence network for neurodegenerative diseases. He has previous work experience in the investment and special jurisdiction industries. While studying philosophy as an undergraduate, Kalon founded the Ortelian Society, a campus discussion group dedicated to heterodox thought.
