    25 years in the making, my arse. Bethesda saw Obsidian's success with The Outer Worlds and decided they wanted a space game too. So they shat out this half assed excuse for a game, a couple of years later. Surprised nobody else picked up on this.

      Of course, but for marketing purposes, it sounds way cooler if Todd keeps repeating "25 years in the making" - thus building an enormous hype ...

    You are absolutely spot-on. Starfield is the biggest load of crap ever for exactly the reasons that you stated. The response from Bethesda is even worse and not entirely unexpected. Not that it would make a difference but I would not spend another cent on anything Bethesda because it will likely be something that we have seen before from Bethesda but with a new skin.

    What this game needed to be was two Skyrim sized worlds on Jemison (New Atlantis) and Cheyenne (Akila City). With plenty to explore in the surrounding area and quests that will give you reasons to go off planet and explore. The nearby star systems would have their related colonies and a little further outside them would be pirate factions. The outer systems would be unexplored and the reason for Constellation to actually exist. You should need to establish outposts just to reach out there and you should be seeking planets with the perfect combination of resources you need for what you plan to do. There should be finds of lost ships and secret bases, perhaps ancient alien derelict ships and bases, but other than that, there shouldn't be much out there.
    All the human life is near the core. And you should be able to fly from planet to planet manually within a star system similar to Elite Dangerous.
    There needs to be land vehicles, the ability to call your ship to you location and more game play for the different ship hab types.

    What makes the game o much worse, at least IMO, is that plants that actually had places on them to explore were nothing more than cut and paste. Every, single, time...
    After the fourth Abandoned Cryo Lab that was exactly the same in every sense to the others, I gave up exploring these useless planets.
    Every crashed ship. Every Mech wasteland. Every one of the explorable structures were the same as the last. My Lord, this game is lazy.

  • @AretaicGames
    @AretaicGames 11 місяців тому +4

    The explicitly "woke" stuff in the game is small potatoes, and easily ignored. In creating a character, I barely noticed the pronoun thing. Where current sensibilities really affect the game is in the gutlessness of the story, the complete lack of hard choices with meaningful consequences, the absence of anything that would make anyone uncomfortable. The contrast with CP2077, and especially the Phantom Liberty expansion, could not possibly be more stark.
    There's also a managerial mindset that pervades the game. I was already put off by the impression that I was being called in for a performance review by Sarah in HR after every significant mission sequence, when I found myself being sat down for an actual performance review by the Freestar Rangers . . . you know, the ones who are supposed to represent freedom. Maybe the Settled Systems are supposed to be a bureaucratic dystopia?

    • @MonadTransformer
      @MonadTransformer 11 місяців тому

      They wasted too much effort on these small potatoes though. I don't mind the funny Russian accents, as a Russian myself. But when you have the funny Russian accents, a ship designer, female representation, a useless cooking system, pronouns, useless base building, but... no plot to speak of, you start to wonder, what the heck is going on here.

    • @OrangeNash
      @OrangeNash 6 місяців тому

      "There's also a managerial mindset that pervades the game". Yes, all that bland dialog every character in the game says about "hey, my work is hard, but it's a great company and I'm lucky to have a job".
      If there's a test to find whether someone would like the game before they play it, it's this: When you hear the phrase "You don't have to be mad to work here, but it helps!!", do you think it's a) hilariously witty, clever and a profound insight. or b) a trite, glib cliche you've heard a thousand times and never want to hear again.
      If you answer a) , then Starfield is the game for you.

    You are exactly right, activists not game programmers. Small percentage of freaks and supporters of those freaks trying to push their reprobated minds on the rest of us. I was pretty weirded out when Barrett tried to romanticize me (I'm a guy, super-straight), also at the beginning with the gender crap. I'm playing the game for the outpost building and resource stuff and have about 340 hours in the game with about 150 in outpost stuff. I liked the missions for a while but they are the same 6 or 8 places over and over with no relation to the game lore. The quests are ok but get annoying after the back and forth stuff. Plus half the stuff with resource management, containers are partially broke so none of it works correctly, no way to see all your resources at the same time, no way to track all your outposts from one screen, etc...Thanks for your video. I'm going to try to share your video with Obsidian Ant, he is getting the same impression concerning lack of game lore and putting stuff on planets just to have them be found with no relation to the game.

    I absolutely hate all the restrictions that prevent you from enjoying the game. Constant over burden, only like 2 infinite storage boxes, how you go to an ENTIRE FKING PLANET to sell you loot from ONE MISSION... and that entire planet can comeup with more than 18k? How tha fk does that economy even function. Just that i have to go to 4 different planets to sell ONE raid of gear. Trash. Then the constant conpanion bitching. I will only use Vasco, Betty, and Jesamine from the fleet. All others are complete trash. You need more weapons, more armor, more ship and weapon parts. Its like the took out wverything that was good just to make sure it ran at 30fps. Its just a polished turd. The shipbuilder is by far my favorite system in game. N even that needs work. The parts are so limiting... no wings, no curvy peices to make saucers, tall thin ships and wide angled curves. Unless the completely overhaul this game with the dlc n mod support.... till game will die. We need more compainions, varrun, ecliptic, crimson.... being evil should be more viable. This is the firat Bethesda game where i feel stuck playing the game the same way as everyone else. There not enough variety.... all this said... i have played it only on PC game pass and am soooooooooo glad i didnt pre order or buy it.

    I love how you're so absolutely entrenched in your own political bubble that you think identity politics is the reason why a Bethesda game doesn't have land vehicles instead of Todd Howard just not being a great game producer. Bethesda games barely fill a single map environment, and Todd thought he could fill a galaxy. It's a joke.

      About Todd: Yes we know Todd, but it is not me being in a "political bubble" the reason I am claiming what I am claiming.
      The reason is that BGS hired 27 external game studios to make the game. All these studios are in turn under one umbrella, that of "Keywords plc", which itself is strongly linked to ESG commitees and such.

    Many of the 'systems' are called the Settled Systems, if they are so "settled" then where are all of the colonies, villages, and cities? Why are there not more factions? UC and Freestar Collective should have way more developed worlds for Jemison and Akila if they are the capital worlds yet we only have the main cities.

    • @sHuRuLuNi
      @sHuRuLuNi  11 місяців тому +1

      Yep, just as I mentioned, a "minimally viable product". Everything just "barely" is.
      "Cities" are actually - when you really pay attention, so ridiculously small that it is a joke calling them cities.
      All (no name)NPCs are also randomly generated. For example in New Atlantis you can see them going inside the elevator then "disappearing" into thin air, and also coming out of thin air.
      This is because these NPCs are not real, i.e. you will not encounter that specific no name NPC, whom you could follow, then he goes to his aparment, goes to bed etc. No, they just keep being randomly generated.
      If you would count the whole population of the "settled systems" there are probably not more than a few hundred people, a max of 1000 in total. This is utterly ridiculous.

Starfields' playercount has dropped below that of Skyrim right now, which is proof Starfield is successful. You aren't meant to buy and play Bethesda games, the enjoyment is mostly in watching dumpster fires from afar. So far F76 was their best fire, Starfield falls a bit short of that success, the heat from the dumpster is much less but there very much is still some heat eminating from the dumpster that is Starfield. Man its so sad the idea i had when i heard Bethesda was making a space epic was anazing. I mean different races each starting the game on a different planet and all the good stuff you can imagine im talking super fun science fiction themed guns freeze rays, lazer blades , ray guns and some goofy guns like the nuke one in fallout or some ratchet and clank stuff. I thought the main quest would have me so hooked and i thought id be eager to make different builds but nope just plain ole lame human. I still have no answers to what anything even means whats the point of the main quest and is their even a starborn word? Or was there a people who built all these lame temples ridiculously far apart from eachother on barren planets. The temple mini game is literally the most Wtf moment ive ever had and ive had some serious wtf moments in my life. I dont mind that companions are involved in conversations thats cool except they are all so damn boring and forgettable. Even the pirate quests were lacking and that was the most fun part literally twice i was doing a mission and realized after it was the last for a faction and i was underwhelmed as hell im like "theres gotta be more to this" but no there wasn't its just heres a star eagle and some goofy space suit youll never use. Even with the setting they chose whats up with it? The tech doesnt match up like humans have z but still dont have x and y. Humans only have few options work fast food, be a pirate, be a soldier. Then we have the obviously ridiculous stuff like the loading screens and small cut scenes you cant skip. Just walking around looking at trees and mountains in skyrim with secunda in the backround was 100% more fulfilling to me than all of starfield. The world doesnt feel even a tiny bit as lived in and alive as skyrim. In skyrim if you kill an npc they will have appropriate items on them to their character. A skooma adict will have skooma etc. Npc had stuff hiding in tjeir homes that gave them more character. Oh yeah and wtf humans dont use any sort of automobiles? Just startship thats it.
    Had to add that how are they called cities they have no roads no highways man that flys in the other bgs games because of their setting but this doesn't make any sense. You cant call something like new atlantis or akila a city in a game anymore when you have cyberpunk or even old games like the gta games and mafia or even spiderman that have whole cites

Magdeburg, for instance. They are v e r y politically incorrect. To such extremes that an individual with your particular phenotype might very quickly get into a tight situation. You know the type of tight situations in which you have to run for your life, or at least bodily integrity.
    So, yeah, I imagine it is fun to be politically incorrect from the safety of your home. Homie. That the game is fucked up because of its emptiness and many other game related things, absolutely. But, "activists"? Hahahahahahahaha

I was blonde until the age of 15 (most of us are as children). Only later my hair got darker, and even now it is brown, and in the summer much brighter. My daughters are totally blonde.
      This is not about race lad, it never was, at least not as far as I am concerned. This is about certain agendas which I mentioned in the video.
      Also, about activists: It is clear as day, if you research who actually worked on this thing, if you check some of the producers of this thing, the game itself, certain "cups" you can find ingame, and much more - that the reason the game is so lackluster is exactly BECAUSE these activists had the sway in designing it. For them, it was important to design it and inject things in the game which will indeed make it policitally CORRECT, much more important for them than actually make the game GOOD.
      THe resources used to do this are the resources which then were lacking to actually make a good game.

      Jokes, aside, indeed hardly any good games nowadays. At least not those from AAA studios.
      I hear BG3 is considered to be good (haven't played it).
      It is not so hard to make a good game. Just as I said in the video, with the resources BGS had, 8 years and more than 250 Mil. dollars (in fact, there seems to be a lot of information now that it was closer to 400 million ...) -- a group of passionate devs could have made not a good, but a SUPERB game.
      Example: with a tiniest fraction of that money they could have hired any writer who could have written a better game story. It's not hard to beat to be honest, because the story is laughable, the characters are laughable, everything is sooo "superficial".
      I was 10 years old when I programmed and wrote text adventures on various machines I had (atari 800xl, zx spectrum, c-64) - and although I just did it for fun, even those stories written by a no one like me would have been better than what Starfield has.

      @@sHuRuLuNi I haven't played BG3 yet and I don't even know if I will. I never liked the concept of tabletop games. Maybe I'll change my opinion if I play BG3, just like I changed my opinion of not liking RPGs when for the first time, in 2015, I played Skyrim, just to see if it was true that you could modify female NPCs to be naked. (yes, I'm an old fart and a pervert). All I had to do was do a mission and I was immediately hooked on this game! Interestingly, I tried to play Fallout 4, but I gave up (for now) because I didn't like the game's ambience and dialogues (they sounded too cliché to me).
      I have 4200 or so hours in Skyrim LE (not counting a few hundred hours in Skyrim SE) and I can say that I know this game well. I've also made 3 or 4 mods for personal use, so I had to learn (and I'm still learning!) how the Creation Engine works. And that was good, because I started to understand how games are made and the commitments that publishers make when making a game.
      And that's why I think it's very misleading to make direct comparisons between a game like BG3 and Starfield or any other game made on the Creation Engine. The same applies when comparing Witcher 3 (which I've already put around 250 to 300 hours into) or Cyberpunk 2077 (I've only played around 10 hours) with any other game from the ES series, Fallout or now Starfield. There are things in these Bethesda games that you won't find in any other RGP game! And the basis of this difference originates one of the biggest "problems" of these games - loads and loads of draw calls! You know what a draw call is in a game, right? That's why Skyrim was very heavy (and still can be, with the "right" mods!) on the CPU when it was released in 2011 and it's also the same reason that Starfield is very heavy on the CPU again in 2023! Unfortunately, I see many of the big UA-camrs who supposedly know a lot about games and how their mechanics work, that they don't mention this. Why? And they also don't mention that it is because of this "strong"/"weak" point that these games can have thousands and thousands of mods. In a game where draw calls have been optimized, such as Doom Eternal (who is the publisher, who is it?), the Tomb Raider series of games, especially the more recent ones, or even, but to a lesser extent, the Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk, it is very difficult, if not practically impossible, to make a mod that changes a certain aspect of the game's setting. In Bethesda games like Skyrim, Fallout 4 and Starfield, especially (but not necessarily) with the Creation Kit, you can modify practically everything! And, if you know how to do it, it's child's play! This is one of the main reasons why Skyrim is still played after 12 years! If it weren't for mods, many of which allow you to extend the original story, Skyrim would be another game practically forgotten on the shelf, as is now the case with games like Witcher 2, Tomb Raiders from 6 years ago or other games from that era.
      Returning to Starfield, I also thought that the main quest was not very captivating, just as I had found the same with Skyrim's main quest. I'm practically 2/3 of the way through Starfield's main quest and it went from something initially apparently boring to something that I want to play to the end as quickly as possible, just to see how the story ends (but I don't, for the pleasure to last more time!). The negative reviews I see about the main quest, which curiously are generic and always repeat the same adjectives, without almost ever going into detail, don't match my experience! If necessary, I can go into detail about why I say this, but I will go into spoilers for anyone who reads this review and hasn't played the game yet.
      Do you want to talk bad about Starfield? If so, then talks bad about things that are very evident to those who played Skyrim and now play Starfield, things that I see very few people mention. I'll give you an example. In Skyrim, every single NPC (practically everyone, with the exception of bar tenders) has a daily routine. An example of this are traders. There is a time to open the store for business, a time to eat, a time to go for a walk or to the inn and a time to sleep. At Starfield this daily routine is omitted! A merchant will always be available in his/her store 24 hours a day!
      This is one of the serious flaws in Starfield, which is a step back compared to Skyrim, and which, instead of being a sign that Bethesda is lazy (the most frequently made generalist criticism), shows especially how the script engine (Papyrus ) on Starfield is stretched to the maximum of its capacity to allow a game of this scale (it is perhaps the biggest game ever made!).
      There are many more specific criticisms that I can mention, and that I can point out here if you want to know, but I would be lying through my teeth if I said that I wasn't loving this game!
      In the last 6 years, the games that gave me the most pleasure playing were Skyrim, the Witcher 3 and now Starfield.
      Have fun!

The reason walking on the moon is entertaining is because no one lives in low gravity, if we all lived in low gravity no one would give a shit. Also if you land on your first planet and run around for 30-60 minutes and nothing happens then the planet may as well have nothing at all. Why? because people don't have time or patience to desperately search for entertainment in a game with barely any in it.
