Kodak Tri-X, Adox XT-3, Pentax LX, Nikon 5000ed scanner, a great combination

  • In this video I am testing Adox XT-3 developer with Kodak Tri-X. Adox XT-3 is a clone of Kodak Xtol, is it worth using, see the results in this video, also, my trusty old Nikon 9000ed scanner is dead, replaced with the Nikon 5000ed scanner which I will show how quick it scans a 35mm full frame at 4000dpi. @@martinhensonphotography Hey Martin - have a look at Flic Film Black, White, and Green developer if You like it Xtol / XT3. It's a one-shot concentrate like Rodinal with The same sort of shelf life but using the same active developer ingredients as Xtol.

    Sensational images, Martin! Congrats. It’s terrific how the fog heightens the sense of depth, most noticeable in the images of the trees. And that Pentax LX seems like a perfect SLR. Even though I mostly shoot Nikon lately, I’ve been so enjoying my Pentax Spotmatic SP, was able to find a mint 50mm f1.4 and 28mm f3.5 Super Takumars (with original hood on the wide) for a song. But your LX has me dreaming of a K-mount Pentax for sure. Congrats, good to have you back.

    So may variables; what to include in the frame, where to put forms in the space and how to deal with overlapping shapes in the composition not to mention the light !

    It’s great to see you back in the game Martin. I have to say that I envy your foggy day out. Here in northern Illinois where I live foggy days are very few and far between and seem to come only when I’m on my way to work. Many are the times that I’ve considered calling in sick just to be able to photograph those fleeting moments but alas, my dreaded work ethic won’t allow. Anyway, I’m happy to see one of us gets the opportunity. And, congratulations on finding a worthy successor to the 9000ed. All the best to you and your family for the holiday season and the coming new year. Cheers!😀👍

    I agree with you regarding the Nikon ED scanner. Mine too, is merciless in showing, dust, scratches or film defects as well as detail. Sloppy, one can not be in handling film when using a Nikon scanner. Some lovely photographs Mr Henson and nice to have you back.

    • @martinhensonphotography
      @martinhensonphotography  Рік тому

      Wonderful scanners, the 9000ed was no as bad at showing marks and dust, maybe its the light source on the 5000ed

    • @lensman5762
      @lensman5762 Рік тому

      @@martinhensonphotography It could well be. I at times, actually prefer to scan some of my 35mm negatives with my V700. It will have to be sharpen up quite meticullously in post, but if the negative does not have the amount of detail that the Nikon can bring out in the first place, then Epson V700 will do as the soft cold light will not show up so much of the grain and scratches. Horses for course I guess. The Nikon was originally intended to bring out all the colours detail, and the dynamic range of the now lamented Kodachrome 25, and in that it was unsurpassed but for the Flextight and Drum Scanners.

    It is good to see that you are up and running around Martin, I just hope the grand kids can keep up. The photo's were beautiful but you cannot expect any thing less from a camera such as the Pentax lx and yes I own one so I am bias. It is is hard to explain how good they feel in the hand and the photos they take. I believe they were the professional camera made by Pentax, they did a good job with that one camera if that was the case.

    27:55 I've often wondered if the eye actually creates contrast for us in dull conditions and takes it away on a bright sunny day. A lightmeter can give some surprising readings. How many stops of contrast do you think there were here? Also do you recommend shooting at a higher ISO when there will be much less dynamic range. I recently heard a knowledgable film photographer suggest shooting at the highest ISO possible that gives the amount of stops you need to capture the image...
