Alright, so we got our 4 classes for the TylerTube RPG. Tyler with knife: Rogue Tyler with crossbow: Ranger Tyler with Flex Tape: Medic And finally, Tyler with sword and board: Warrior
Seems like a rolling pin or maybe a piece of metal laid over it under a weight could have worked to flatten and stretch it. That stuff looks pretty cool.. I could see a lot of uses for it. That club looks like the one the dude had in Last of the Mohicans.
Gun stock war clubs are really really cool, and despite the name, no one is really sure if they are based off a musket stock which they do resemble, or if they are a coincidental design as even the oldest ones they have found dont have any of the drilling or tapping holes you would find in a repurposed musket stock.
I wasn't expecting too much from him. I mean after the last video of working with it he didn't even bother getting some heat resistant gloves for working with the stuff.
Ironically I think plastic would have made a fantastic shield in medieval times. It's incredibly durable, it's flexible, and lightweight. I could imagine the proper plastic easily stopping a sword.
The thing with warhammers and fighting clubs against shields is, your enemy gets his weapon stuck in your shield, you now have a save handle to remove his weapon from your enemy. So when doing medieval combat or stuff you will usually avoid hitting a shield and aim for bodyparts that are covered in plates as thornlike structures will more easily remove from punctured plate metal than wood or in this case plastics.
So this stuff is hard, white, malleable, and apparently makes pretty good armor against everything except crossbows, apparently. Congrats man, I think you found what Storm Troopers make their armor out of.
I love this. More accurately the shield aswell. Shields were typically hardened wood with metal lining to help the shields shape. They were however closer to around an extra half inch of thickness. However shields typically had the handles towards the side with padding to help your forearm brace against the blows. Bucklers however were small metal shields with wood handles directly in the middle for hand maneuvers. No shaming for not making historically accurate and instead saying how absolutely awesome this stuff is, and if shaped and molded would be stronger than hard wood shields, but not as strong as full metal shields, with the off set being the light weight of the plastic compared to the full heavy metal shields that required your full body to lift. Super cool as always
Just want to point out that the shield is being held static during testing but if it was being used in "battle" your arm would be acting like a shock absorber and would make it much less likely for anything to actually penetrate the shield. You'd also have the ability to move it and help deflect blows.

I'd really love to see you repair the shield with a heat gun. I wanna see if it really does just go back together, or if you can just patch it with more of the balls and have it hold nicely.
same. rapid heat gun repairs would be so epic. smash it up real good then spray water and heat gun squish it back together again. but he needs some gloves or something to deal with that heat molding it bare handed seems to hurt.

Embed chain mail. It would almost be like a stronger fiberglass and would likely be able to stop crossbows too if you get the right ring sizes. Edit: also, try using a rolling pin when flattening it out. It will help make the sheets a lot more uniform and you can just sandwich the chain mail between two layers of hot plastic and try to roll it in.
And I also have to point out the fact that you had a "weapon malfunction" and then look directly at it with no safety glasses on when it didn't work the way it was supposed to 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Yeah, like man, breaking rule 1 of using a projectile weapon, don't point it at something you probably don't want to shoot, especially when you know for a fact it's still loaded.
@@Blatant.Obscurity i seem you can actually stain it to. and there is all kinds of plastic paint you can probably get to work with it. there is also different colors of this stuff or off brands like it even clear stuff. kind of want to go all out and grab a bunch some day and just mess with it.
@@Blatant.Obscurity It actually takes paints and varnish really well. I used this stuff to make antlers for a jackalope and the acrylic paints stuck to it nicely. I also used Duraclear varnish and it dried as pretty as you please. Sanding it was interesting though. The friction of the sandpaper heated it up enough that it kind of melted, but it still smoothed out the bumps. So the sanding was more equivalent to adding water to clay instead of actually removing rough areas.
If you want to look like you are missing some chromosomes, because it doesn't mold into good shapes while many other materials can make more realistic props even if they don't have the impact resistance, which is more what you're going for with cosplay.

Tyler for a man you have the cleanest hands i have ever seen in my entire life. They make mine look manly from everything i get into grease and paint wise and my 8 year old sons from all the dirt and stuff he plays with.
The stuff is great. Very underrated. I've used it for years by different makers ... started out very expensive and today it's dirty cheap if you shop around enough.
Yep, I use it in my little repair business all the time. You can make or repair plastic tabs and mold small pieces for toys and plastic parts. Fabulous stuff that I've also used for years.
@@1220mystic hi, if you tie a knot in the cord it shouldn't pull out, You could flatten 2 sheets of this material and trap a knot between, then mould them together pressing between your palms, I have fused several sheets together like this and when cool doesn't seem to delaminate easily
So I'd suggest if you wanted to make a really nice surface for it like a buckler, with a nice rounded outside, you could start by making a mold out of wood, just take a thick slab of wood or several 4x4's glued together and carve out negative space for where the shield would go, then just get a rolling pin and mostly make the plastic the way you did previously and then press it into the wood mold to dry. That way you could make any shape you wanted. Shields are rounded that way so projectiles and knives glance off, so it'd be a more effective finished product. And likely it would dry out more even.

You should have used a torch on the front afterwards to make it look untouched. See if it would really work after a battle. I would think it would get stronger with each refacing.
Use hot rollers with water poring over and even heat pads that go to high enough temperature and wet clothes, not bad tho pretty good way to shape plastic
I would just keep in mind that most of these are best case scenarios; if you were actually in a battle no one would get hits this good or direct unless you were somehow pinned. most everything that stuck into the shield wouldve just glanced off because of the inaccuracy that comes with a moving target.
Video idea for bead: 1. Makeshift bow and arrows, use real arrow heads and string, but my the handle and sticks for arrows out of beads. 2. Make a holster for your “SMALL” knife. 3. phone case. 4. Maybe a blade if you can, would like to see you try to even if it were to melt from heat of the grit scratching it.. just as a example for people who don’t know or if it works it would be nice.
I love Instamorph - been using it for nearly 10 years. Aside from general fixes and projects around the house, I always have some with my camping equipment and a few strips in my wallet. A lighter can be all you need to heat up a small amount and make all sorts of minor repairs in a pinch.
Cool video!! 2 things came to mind 1. if you could heat and pack it tight into the inside of a trash can lid so it would be thicker in the center and then make handle style for full arm support . 2. How about Storm Trooper armor or if it's printable Mandalorian Armor!!
Awesome video but can I suggest a redo? This time make it thicker in the center and rounded. Shields were also used to repel thus is why the concave. Also, there are 2 handles. One for forearm stability and one for hand grasping.

I would love for 1. To se it molded between something solid to make it more homogeneous. And 2. layered with other materials, perhaps glassfiber or something.
I wonder how it would perform as a bullet/ arrowhead against unarmored or lightly armored targets. If you could mold it just right and fit it in a casing, how effective of a round could it be?

Safety Tip : protective gloves and goggles, also if you plan to use that plastic stuff in the future try some cool touch gloves they can make it a little easier on ya while your molding the plastic 😉
If you were holding it, I don’t think it would get penetrated as easily because the cinder blocks provide unrealistic resistance. You and your arm would give in under attack and wouldn’t allow as much back pressure, at least for the melee weapons.
Late to the party, but have to suggestions.. Making a bow out of the beads would be very interesting. And also a slingshot. In fact you could probably make round marble sized 'pellets' for the slingshot out of the same stuff. Again making this product something that every survivalist should have in his bag. Great thing is if you make a mistake... you just reheat it up again. I've worked with these beads in the years past for making fake teeth. The secret in using them is to knead (like bread) continually folding and getting the air out of whatever your creating. The trapped air is going to be the weakest part of whatever you create. Love your channel.
Small suggestion, would live to see a longer video of you making an armor set out of that stuff, like a chest plate /helmet 👀 and a sword that you sharpen add like a metal mesh to the planting and boom. Easy pz armor set
For a real life scenario I think it would be easier for the user's hand to fail to hold that handle than a melee weapon making it through that. Maybe a better handle (the handle smaller and close to the edge, having a strap for the forearm to be held against the inner part of the shield) then it would be so much easier protecting yourself from blows on the shield. The kind of handle depicted in the video is commonly used in bucklers (super tini shields) or toy shields that are not accurate depictions of real war shields.
Use a heat gun. As a cosplayer who has made a entire suit of armor out of thermal plastic- heat gun and clay sculpting tools so you don’t burn your hands. If it sticks to your sculpting tools the way friendly plastic does then use lard on your tools to keep it from sticking.
If you're going to make a useful shield you should make one where your arm has a band for your forearm and a handle for your hand! You will most likely break your wrist with a decent enough impact and the chance of the shield pivoting side to side and hurting yourself.
If the crossbow hits where your hand is then it just ~Bolts~ the shield to your hand so you can't drop it. Slice the fletching end off with the sword in your main hand and take it as a blessing
Would possibly like to see some additional safety measures on some of these torture tests lol. Maybe bring the protective glasses out a little earlier for when you're launching projectiles at unfamiliar surfaces or put on some gloves when stabbing into random things in case your hand slips. You also almost pointed a loaded dart gun directly at your face. I'm sure you can get away with some of these things without too much worry, but try to set a good example for your younger audience (I don't have kids or anything but I also don't want children potentially getting hurt by not taking these things into consideration if they decide to try something stupid). Nonetheless, great video as always 👍
Tyler, I’ve seen many videos where people have commented regarding your safety. And I’m not really one to comment. But this video made me genuinely concerned for your safety. You took a wish spring loaded dart shooter, and aimed it right at your face/eyes with no safety protection, because it ACCIDENTALLY DISCHARGED 2 DARTS INSTEAD OF ONE. On top of all the other sharp objects Ricocheting off the shield. Please wear safety protection. We don’t want to see you get hurt.
yeah, using gloves kneading hot plastic is SO overrated. Or wear eye protection when shooting sharp metal projectiles. Tyler please take some safety precautions.
You didn't take into account the fact that if you were holding the shield your arm would act as a shock absorber and the penetration wouldn't be as much so its actually even more effective! Great video though, your content in top notch.
Armor like thick leather chest piece with that plastic layed out on top of it as a added layer perhaps between both add some sort of impact layer protection either gel or other

so the shield is actually more effective than demonstrated because if a person was holding it u need to take into account that ur arm has give and since this is a center grip shield the shield can tilt to the side its being hit on and essentially make attacks glance off
I don’t know if anybody has suggested this, but next time while working with this stuff you might want to use silicone gloves, you use them to take stuff out of the oven on Amazon, might work to use while molding this stuff, so you don’t burn your hands LOL fun video thx!!
You could have used a rolling pin or a metal tube/bar to get it more even. I bought some of this stuff after watching your other video and it is brilliant stuff! It takes a bit of practice to get used to it, but it is so useful. Thanks Tyler!
That the shield idea and make a Sandwich 🥪 of plastic then carbon fiber then plastic or plastic 14ga sheet metal then plastic. Also you could use a really big cast iron pan for shaping the plastic if you keep the cast iron warm it will give you more time to shape it and also will give you a nicer circle.
I know this is all for fun but just wanted to point out a flaw in some of these. Mainly with the experiment with the War Club. He hit the shield from above with all the pressure going towards the ground which of course had nowhere to go. If it were a real human being, some of the force would be absorbed to the person themself, but some would also force the person to fly backwards, unless they had some inhuman strength to completely absorb the impact (which some do). But do to the power of the person flying, not all the force goes directly to the shield so its unlikely that it would have gone through. But all in all, video was great, no hate
You should get some heat resistant gloves, like the kind candy makers use for working with the hot sugar. And maybe some eye protection if you're going to be throwing sharp objects around.
you should try breaking a pair of safety scissors, using one of the hands and seeing how sharp you can make it and maybe try making such an edge that you can throw it
You should try to make body armor with it and send it to demo ranch. Make a chest plate out of this stuff as the main base and add whatever else you want to think it will stop bullets.

You should’ve used the last bag you had leftover to round the front of the shield. Would help in deflecting projectiles.

Awesome video but can I suggest a redo? This time make it thicker in the center and rounded. Shields were also used to repel thus is why the concave. Also, there are 2 handles. One for forearm stability and one for hand grasping.
Mold a big block of it (like a block of ballistic gel) and see how much of it would it take to stop a crossbow.
Try using it as glue with the wood blocks. Kind of a nice throwback

Now you gotta make various weapons with it! Like a dagger, an axe/hatchet/tomahawk, an arrow/crossbow bolt, mace/hammer/pick. Then test them out!
maybe you should have worn gloves and thrown it against a solid surface to start kneading it and maybe knead it with a mallet once it gets thicker

I wonder how it would perform as a bullet/ arrowhead against unarmored or lightly armored targets. If you could mold it just right and fit it in a casing, how effective of a round could it be?

Safety Tip : protective gloves and goggles, also if you plan to use that plastic stuff in the future try some cool touch gloves they can make it a little easier on ya while your molding the plastic 😉
Wear heat proof gloves and use a rolling pin to flatten it out.
If you were holding it, I don’t think it would get penetrated as easily because the cinder blocks provide unrealistic resistance. You and your arm would give in under attack and wouldn’t allow as much back pressure, at least for the melee weapons.

Late to the party, but have to suggestions.. Making a bow out of the beads would be very interesting. And also a slingshot. In fact you could probably make round marble sized 'pellets' for the slingshot out of the same stuff. Again making this product something that every survivalist should have in his bag. Great thing is if you make a mistake... you just reheat it up again. I've worked with these beads in the years past for making fake teeth. The secret in using them is to knead (like bread) continually folding and getting the air out of whatever your creating. The trapped air is going to be the weakest part of whatever you create. Love your channel.

For a real life scenario I think it would be easier for the user's hand to fail to hold that handle than a melee weapon making it through that.
Maybe a better handle (the handle smaller and close to the edge, having a strap for the forearm to be held against the inner part of the shield) then it would be so much easier protecting yourself from blows on the shield. The kind of handle depicted in the video is commonly used in bucklers (super tini shields) or toy shields that are not accurate depictions of real war shields.

Use a heat gun. As a cosplayer who has made a entire suit of armor out of thermal plastic- heat gun and clay sculpting tools so you don’t burn your hands. If it sticks to your sculpting tools the way friendly plastic does then use lard on your tools to keep it from sticking.

If you're going to make a useful shield you should make one where your arm has a band for your forearm and a handle for your hand! You will most likely break your wrist with a decent enough impact and the chance of the shield pivoting side to side and hurting yourself.

If the crossbow hits where your hand is then it just ~Bolts~ the shield to your hand so you can't drop it. Slice the fletching end off with the sword in your main hand and take it as a blessing
Would possibly like to see some additional safety measures on some of these torture tests lol. Maybe bring the protective glasses out a little earlier for when you're launching projectiles at unfamiliar surfaces or put on some gloves when stabbing into random things in case your hand slips. You also almost pointed a loaded dart gun directly at your face. I'm sure you can get away with some of these things without too much worry, but try to set a good example for your younger audience (I don't have kids or anything but I also don't want children potentially getting hurt by not taking these things into consideration if they decide to try something stupid). Nonetheless, great video as always 👍

You took a wish spring loaded dart shooter, and aimed it right at your face/eyes with no safety protection, because it ACCIDENTALLY DISCHARGED 2 DARTS INSTEAD OF ONE. On top of all the other sharp objects Ricocheting off the shield. Please wear safety protection. We don’t want to see you get hurt.

You didn't take into account the fact that if you were holding the shield your arm would act as a shock absorber and the penetration wouldn't be as much so its actually even more effective! Great video though, your content in top notch.

Some shields have a bulb there where the handle is for reinforcment! And maybe if u make ”crosslines” for that shield it could be little bit better
Tyler, you should mold that into a shield again and then next time shoot at it with different caliber bullets. Or maybe be a dense brick.
so the shield is actually more effective than demonstrated because if a person was holding it u need to take into account that ur arm has give and since this is a center grip shield the shield can tilt to the side its being hit on and essentially make attacks glance off
I don’t know if anybody has suggested this, but next time while working with this stuff you might want to use silicone gloves, you use them to take stuff out of the oven on Amazon, might work to use while molding this stuff, so you don’t burn your hands LOL fun video thx!!

You could have used a rolling pin or a metal tube/bar to get it more even. I bought some of this stuff after watching your other video and it is brilliant stuff! It takes a bit of practice to get used to it, but it is so useful. Thanks Tyler!
maybe make a crossbow out of it? the most complicated bits would be the trigger and the bow arms but I think something improvised could work.
Mold the shield around a piece of sheet metal. For added protection.
watching this just kinda makes me think about the first Armor smiths and how they figured out how to make some armor

i dont think it was fully hardened. it bounced ninja stars off the outer edges 2 times, but towards the center they stick. probably because its soft.
You could probably make a tougher shield by building up layers of plastic and cloth from old blue jeans or even better seat belt fabric.
That the shield idea and make a Sandwich 🥪 of plastic then carbon fiber then plastic or plastic 14ga sheet metal then plastic.
Also you could use a really big cast iron pan for shaping the plastic if you keep the cast iron warm it will give you more time to shape it and also will give you a nicer circle.
I know this is all for fun but just wanted to point out a flaw in some of these. Mainly with the experiment with the War Club. He hit the shield from above with all the pressure going towards the ground which of course had nowhere to go. If it were a real human being, some of the force would be absorbed to the person themself, but some would also force the person to fly backwards, unless they had some inhuman strength to completely absorb the impact (which some do). But do to the power of the person flying, not all the force goes directly to the shield so its unlikely that it would have gone through. But all in all, video was great, no hate
You should get some heat resistant gloves, like the kind candy makers use for working with the hot sugar. And maybe some eye protection if you're going to be throwing sharp objects around.
you should try breaking a pair of safety scissors, using one of the hands and seeing how sharp you can make it and maybe try making such an edge that you can throw it
You should try to make body armor with it and send it to demo ranch. Make a chest plate out of this stuff as the main base and add whatever else you want to think it will stop bullets.
Truly the biggest counterplay would be flaming arrows
A heavy pot of warm water would be good for both flattening and shaping it
