BRITISH PATHÉ'S STORY
Before television, people came to movie theatres to watch the news. British Pathé was at the forefront of cinematic journalism, blending information with entertainment to popular effect. Over the course of a century, it documented everything from major armed conflicts and seismic political crises to the curious hobbies and eccentric lives of ordinary people. If it happened, British Pathé filmed it.
Now considered to be the finest newsreel archive in the world, British Pathé is a treasure trove of 85,000 films unrivalled in their historical and cultural significance. - Спорт
That was insane video quality for a 1966 game
It's because old video footage was shot in film, which holds up much better than old digital footage.
They must have used proper 35/16mm film - just like they did for actual movies in the 1960s - plus this has clearly been restored to remove any scratches.
It's obviously remastered ffs...

We were 20 and 23 years of age and remember this like it was yesterday. That was when sport meant something, no hooligans or idiots it was all about the love of the game.
I was 11. First WC in Soviet TV. How I wanted for extra time just to see this game another 30 minutes!
And it was yesterday.
Then, wasn't there any sports betting at the time?

How is the quality so good when it was filmed 49 years ago??
It was actually the last world cup to be in black and white, now they have enhancing programs and stuff to make it better
It's from the movie "Goal! The World Cup", shot on 35mm film rather than the poor video of the era.
Film 35 mm
MaxTalksYT, nah they had the technology back then to create good films.
Film quality has never been bad, people re using it again and again makes it bad
That England phantom goal haunted them 20 years later when Maradona gave them payback with the 'hand of god'... 🤣

wow amazing video quality
Crazy to see the queen look so young and she died just yesterday...
Full hd em 1966 ? que qualidade extraordinária e que belo espetáculo !
At the time England had 0 World Cups and Germay 1. Now England 1 World Cup and Germany 4 World Cups plus 3 Euros...
Haha, as an England fan even I can't say that went over the line that was BS.
Rumour has it the Russian linesman was asked why he gave the goal and he simply said 'Stalingrad'.
no but the fourth one definately did
It was definitely a goal mate. Near the beginning of the 6th second of the 1st minute of this video, if you pause it at the right time you can Definitely see the shadow of the ball past the goal line.
no Russian linesman Azerbaijan reffere Tofiq Bahramov
Azerbaijan was apart of Russia back then
No it wasn't. It was, along with Russia, part of the Soviet Union.
It would be great if England could host the World Cup again it would be the perfect place to host that great completion London hosted the best Olympic Games ever in 2012 so please bring the World Cup to England

Sad that jimmy greaves never got to play. He was the best English player of all time and got injured before World Cup
Although he was a great goalscorer he couldn't actually 'play' in the sense of linking up with opponents and passing. There is difference. Gerd Muller for example could do both.

If only this could happen again
Discount the controversial goal and England would have still won 3-2.
Suppose after 120 minute it would have been 2-2.
How did they decide in 1966 who the winner would be.
By penalties or tossing?

I looked at englands 3rd goal in slow motion and it did not cross the line. It bounced on the line and went out

You can stop the footage at 1:06 and clearly see the ball bounce straight off the line. The ball never crossed the line. I'm not sure why people continue to argue that the ball crossed it.
1:06
@@theonlyjoe_ no it was like 7cm/inch off or something
The distinction of ball off/on the line was not clear at that contemporary rules. So I will say referees count the ball with only very slight area "inside" the line as goal - if they consider it a beautiful enough shot. Sounds humorous, as it is the game and just it.

2:36 classic british teeth
At this time football was a lot more physical, nowadays football is a lot more soft sadly. People around these times would get their teeth knocked out but they wouldn’t start crying and rolling around on the floor like they would today. We should bring back the Anglo Scottish cup between all Scottish Premier and English championship sides. Sides in Europe get put into the knockout stages to save on games played. Scotland should also play england at an annual b international. .
In part ONE of this there were cameras exactly level with the goal line , where were they when englands 3rd goal was supposed to have gone in ? it didnt go in of course as can be seen on here , its so clear it did not go in , you do not even need to pause the film to see that it did not , and the camera angle i mention would have definetely confirmed it
Freeze at 0:34 and see that Seeler clearly grabs Wilson to stop him from blocking the shot which tied the match. A clear foul.
NO GOAL, and England wins 2-1 in regulation time.
1:06, nice gift ;)
I'm southamerican, I always cheer up for Italy and England.
If it wasn't in why didn't Roger Hunt number 21 put it in the net instead of celebrating? He was closest... If it didn't go over he could have easily scored.
Why were England playing in their away kit if they were playing at home? Shouldn't they of been in white and Germany in their away shirts?
I think they tossed a coin to decide who wears their away colours pre match. Might be wrong though
