What a WONDERFUL attitude !!! Love the celebration... ;o)) Let me tell a story:
1974, as a kid (8), I was in Germany, invited to watch the final with a bunch of people massed around a TV, at least 15 in all, and everybody was rooting for the national team... except me. I was, to the bewilderment of everyone present, for the Netherlands. They couldn't understand. I had heard all the other matches on the radio, at home (we didn't have TV when I grew up), and somehow I had gathered that Holland played the best football, so I was for them. And was duly disappointed when in the end it didn't pan out for them, and I couldn't really enjoy the victory of our national team... unforgettable memory.
Things have changed a bit since then, but I still have a hard time when both teams are part of a competition!
Cheers & greetings from Germany !!!

R9 de Lima was better than those two overpaid mercenaries who stayed in la liga the most weakest defensive league in europe.. Messi would flop playing in Italy, he chose to stay in his comfort zone in Spain and gets found out at national level. R9 de Lima scored 15 goals a world record that the time for most goals scored in world cups. He has two world cup winners medals and should have had 3.. He has 2 copa america winners medals and Messi doesn't even have one. He couldn't even win the copa america??? R9 also got player of the year for Inter Milan.. 45 years ago, the Dutch team played a game, which was never seen. Even now 45 years later, goosebumps popup, enjoying the best game ever played. Without a higley deserved Cup, we are proud citizens, because these players served such a beautiful game. Not just for Holland, but the whole world could enjoy the new style of footbal.
It's the beginning of the current play of the teams that play under Pep Guardiola. He learned from the master Johan Cruijff. As a player and coach, he always had one mission, enjoy the public, they pay lots of money to come to see you. And so he did, he started with Ajax, did the same at Barcelona. And touched all players because they all got better than they were before.
Holland will once win the world title, all I hope for that it is with playing the best game ever.
The best game isn't hidden in a Cup, but in the legs of the artists.

In those times we used to play football as kiddies one against one, shifting the ball from one foot to the other pretending to be two complete football teams: Now Germany attacking, Breitner plays to Schwarzenbeck ( left foot to right foot ) to Hoeness ( left foot ) and goal. After ten minutes the other guy was attacking the goal: Rensenbrink to Neeskens and Cruyff. The results were often 4 to 6 or other unbelievable results. An excellent documentary. I was living in the Netherlands in 1974 - that summer was an experience I still remember in detail. Most of the Dutch first XI were international quality players with the exception of the goalkeeper Jan Jongbloed. Every ball that came his way was an adventure - luckily he didn't have to make saves very often - LOL. Interesting to see interviews with Krol, Van Hanagen. Rensenbrink etc and see what they look like today. Wim Rijsbergen, also interviewed in the film, came from Leiden and I was at the Leiden railway station when he arrived back from the world cup - a big crowd was there to greet him and he came out of the station entrance in his Dutch blazer with a big bouquet of flowers.

Dutch football in the early 1970s was wonderful. And the national team of 74 just confirmed it. It was the most beautiful football of those days and perhaps it still is today. The "Totaalvoetbal" strayeg, both defending and attacking is still effective today. I remember that as a young man, I coached Sub-13 and Sub-15 teams in high school and used exactly this tactical strategy to assemble my teams. And it worked very well. People were surprised, but they said it was beautiful to see. Curiously, we were runners-up two years in a row in two categories, losing 4 decisions on penalties. Football was beautiful, but lacked a bit of luck.
My respect and affection for Dutch football remains and my greatest idols are still Cruijff and Neeskens.
    R.I.P. Cruijff.

I was young when the '74 finals were played but i can remember Holland's games as my late father had told me to watch this amazing player called Johann Cruyff.
Cruyff is definitely 1 of the all time greatest player's. He was so intelligent, a very forward thinking person who was a huge part of total football. Cruyff's influence can be felt in the Barcelona team under PEP, the Spanish team from 2008-2012 and Manchester City's all conquering team winning 5 Premier League's out of the last 6, 4 League Cups, Domestic Treble, Centurions, Champions League and the Treble. I loved watching Holland in both the '74 and '78 World Cups. Player's like Cruyff, Rep, Rensenbrink, Neeskens, Rudi Krol, Arie Haan amongst others. I believe Holland were the best team of the '74 World Cup, although they lost it in the final to hosts West Germany. I don't think Holland scoring in the first minute really helped the team, as they have said, some player's wanted to hold onto the lead and just defend, which wasn't Holland's game, and others wanted to go on and get another goal to make sure.
Cruyff was a star, he even got that infamous turn named after him, 'The Cruyff Turn'.
In '78 without Cruyff Holland were brilliant again, losing out again in the final to hosts Argentina. I believe Holland were the international team of the '70s.
Their influence is still felt today.

In 1991 while traveling for a year on the other side of the equator the Dutch team lost some of its glory however not where I was. In Indonesia Yogyakarta at 01 or 02:00h at night without hesitation many of the Indonesian hotel guests and surely more filling the large hotel dining room where there in the middle of the night to watch and cheer the Netherlands play against Poland live broadcast. That Dutch team was brilliant, played some superb football, I supported them in the World Cup, because England weren't there! RIP Johann Cruyff.

Watching this made me remember that between 1970-1984 no Spanish or Italian team won the European cup. That's unthinkable now when they've pretty much dominated it since then

For me, the greatest team in history. Change the way he think and played football on the global stage. Thank you Clockwork Oranje.

I don't know, they lost in 74 against Germany and they lost in 76 against Czechoslovakia. Maybe their defence was too bad.

I still hold back tears when I re-watch how they allowed the Krauts back into the game, final 1974. I still find myself going, ‘you fools what are you doing?’ Everyone but the 11 on the pitch could see what was happening. It was one of the great tragedies of modern football but also proof if any were needed that this is a game like no other.
