Ketogenic diets and fasting have gained a lot of attention and foods like coconut oil, MCT Oil, Grassfed butter and the like have come along for the ride. But some people are still worried about adverse health effects considering this movement runs entirely against conventional health "wisdom." Our biology might just prefer ketones to glucose/carbohydrate.
Credit to Robert Sapolsky for the story of the Thymus gland. He has two wonderful books in which this point arises:

[BLINKIST] Blinkist is an app I've been using lately to discover new books and review the ones I've already read. It gives you the key points in text or audio form from tons of different non-fiction books. Since I'm always going through so many books to get these done, it's very useful to get me exposed to more concepts beforehand to know if it's worth my time to buy and read through that particular book. That would mean zero processed foods. Nestle, gone. Kraft Heinz, gone. PepsiCo, gone. CocaCola, gone. The list of bankruptcies would be loooooong. The world would be a much better place. Hundreds of billions in big money interests don't want -will not let - zero processed foods to happen.

A video on posture doesn't really fit with WIL's kind of videos, he tends to explain things that the general public has a low chance of knowing and diving in to the topic using credible research and helping people come to conclusions where as a video on posture wouldn't really fit that since perfect posture is fairly cemented and doesn't need a 10+ minute video backed with research.

Doctor here. It is now well known that the thymus shrinks with age, which is likely why the infants were found to have large glands compared to their adult counterparts, not necessarily from "chronic stress". However, I would be interested to see a study comparing similarly aged stressed vs non-stressed individuals.

      @Modern-Saint 11 місяців тому +3

Unfortunately your education as a doctor severely limits your understanding of biochemistry. The thymus shrinks due to carbohydrate consumption which also leads to an increase in testosterone levels.
Testosterone suppresses the thymus, and carbohydrates are broken down into glucose, so when glucose levels are high, insulin levels also increase. Insulin suppresses the thymus, so this is another way that carbohydrate consumption leads to thymus shrinkage.

I have never felt as goof, as energetic, as sugar blood stable (I've lived life with hypoglycemia) as I have since adopting a ketogenic diet. When I veer away and have too many carbohydrates, I feel like absolute garbage. I fall asleep by 8-9pm, I have brain fog, my joints hurt, my resting heart rate increases by up to 20BPM, my skin breaks out with pimples and even patches of eczema, which I never used to have...I just do not feel good on a standard American Diet (SAD. Aptly named.) and I suppose I never did....I just didn't know it until trying keto. I used to be hangry as soon as I woke up and HAD to eat ASAP. Now I prefer intermittent fasting and don't have any breakfast until closer to lunchtime and I feel great! I will always prefer this way of eating now.

I would always feel very bloated after regular meals, even if those meals were small ones and I would eventually crash. I tried eating 5-7 small meals per day, eating everything "normal". I lost 15kg but after a year of eating like that I started to gain so much fat I was wondering what the hell is going on. Then I heard about ketogenic diet (eating clean) and I've never felt better. Lost 10kg already, little to no muscle loss, also combining the diet with IF every single day, I feel great! My cognitive functions are incredible, I can learn new stuff more easily, no anxiety, no stress. I'm so calm, emotionally stable and energetic. It may not suit everyone but for me it is a perfect diet. PS. I don't have a gall bladder and my body still adjusted after 7-10 days of keto. Our bodies are incredible!

I have been on a keto diet for more than three years due to carbohydrates intolerance. All my life I had been struggling to find the root cause of my digestive problems, and in the end I decided to reduce carbs to no more than two slices of high fibre bread per day. I consume a lot of fat (olive oil, fat fish) and proteins. The result is spectacular. Never been better in my whole life. All my digestive problems are gone, and my blood tests are better than ever. I have zero craving for sugar, and I have ten times more energy than before. Thank you so much for this video, it is brilliant.

If people used their brains they would realise that in a survival situation people can't eat 3 meals a day and drink 3 litres of water and get 9 hours of sleep. Your body is a very versatile machine that can function on very little nourishment. If you don't eat for a few hours or forget to drink that day you'll be fine your body's not going to start eating itself

I really enjoy your videos and I’m glad that you are representing current scientific literature about ketosis. I think it would better if you did look at overall meta analyses and systematic reviews when extrapolating these findings to the general public instead of looking at studies that only agree with each other. Any idea in science must be falsifiable to withstand criticism, including ketosis. One other thing is that ketogenic diets do seem to restrict some prebiotic fiber. In your other video on gut bacteria, evidence is mounting that complex carbohydrates like inulin, beta glucans and fructans provide growth in beneficial microbes. Could you synthesize ketosis research with gut microbes in your next video?

Think you'll be crawling up the walls with hunger if you go one meal a day? Not on keto you won't! You have to try it to believe it. I work 12 to 8. No breakfast (not hungry). At 4 o'clock I have (a very light snack) two hardboiled eggs or a bacon rash. At 9 o'clock I have my one meal: 300 grams of meat, an avocado, 75-125 grams of cheese and 125 grams of strawberries followed by a glass of dry champagne. At no stage of the day do I ever feel ravenously hungry, only slightly peckish at most. I only drink water/mineral water/tea/coffee during the day or with meal. Best of all I feel highly alert and never feel tired. Only have one or two dumps in the morning and I have ZERO cravings for sweets/bread /softdrink etc. If someone had told me this I would never have believed them. TRY IT !!!

@@thyssaliki Instead of a semicolon. The semicolon is supposed to be used as an alternative to the period when the two sentences being separated are closely related. There has been an epidemic of semicolon abuse lately on the internet.

Kevin Clancy I give up... I don’t even know what is a semi colon or the way to write English in general lol.
This what happens when you learn English from the internet.
      ; semi colon
      , comma
      : colons
      ?
I also edited the comment again. I hope it’s correct this time.

I really love what you do, but would really appreciate you sharing your sources in the description. I would really like to read them and come to my own conclusions.
