6.0 Is BY FAR my favorite diesel. But only because they have such a bad reputation that I've been given 2 crew cab short boxes for free from people that didn't want to deal with the problems. I'm actually not a ford or a diesel guy.
I’ve had a 6.0 psd and a Cummins 6.7. The Cummins makes awesome low end tq but the 6.0 is a faster racing engine. I think it also depends on how you drive it. I had an 05 Harley Davidson edition truck with a 6.0 for about 6 years and had no problems. My 6.7 has had a a fuel pump replaced but that’s it. I will be buying another 6.0 next year and selling my deleted Ram. This is personal preference. The 6.7 tows way better but I don’t have to tow anymore.
i have an 05 harley davidson Edition 6.0 true blue metallic, only thing thats not stock is the entire powertrain, shes stock ride heigh stock wheels etc etc, replaced fog lights with hidden lightbar, she puts down 700 hp and 1400 ft lbs of tourqe at the rear wheels, Been feeding it used motor oil used atf and JP8 for about 2 years now, she runs like a top
The 6.0 is better than everyone makes it out to be. I love the sound of them although on a personal preference standpoint I prefer the 5.9 cr Cummins and LLY/LBZ duramax over the 6.0 because I like the performance better on those motors.
I'm a cummins guy through and through, and quite honestly I want one of these because it's cheap and easy to acquire. Made a deal with a guy for 5k for his, 215k miles and he bulletproofed it apparently also has a new ipr system in it and a new computer too. God forbid the engine dies or at least not for a long while, but if it does I'll just put a cummins an an Allison transmission in it. Why? Why not? I get to keep my truck, not spend a shit ton of money buying another truck and it'll just be stupidly reliable as cummins motors tend to be. And yes, it'd be a 5.9 24 valve. But all that aside, it's beat up inside and out but it sounds really strong. Once I test drive it I'll know for sure and should all go well, I'll have a new daily driver with a tan leather interior so I can make money.
My boss has a 6.0 and damn it sounds sick. The only this is the dash always says theirs water in the oil or gas. He did put a bigger turbo on it that gave it a good bit more power.
I own a 2004 with a 6.0 Powerstroke. I can attest to the need for bulletproofing and the thousands of dollars it has cost to achieve this. Cool truck, but my next one will be the 6.7
I wouldn't ever sell my 05 king ranch f350...the previous owner had all the issues and paid to fix em and his headache was my benefit...my truck came studded, new turbo, new oil cooler, new injectors, only thing I've done is blue spring upgrade and all fluid changes..it does need a touch more power to climb grades with 12k 5ty wheel tied to it
My 98 Subaru Forester was "self undercoating" the head gaskets blew external only on the oil side, I would need a 1 to 1 gas to oil ratio. She rolled coal like a diesel and people would commonly wave me down and ask if I was on fire. 😆
I’m really torn here… ive been looking for a 7.3 excursion for my wife and people just don’t sell them and when they do they want a zillion dollars. A buddy of mine suggested a 6.0 and pay a professional to completely bulletproof it. Thoughts?
6.0 has a modern engine compared to the 7.3 with way more hp. If you don’t have lots of money to pay a mechanic or if you don’t like working on your vehicles then avoid it, otherwise you can do everything but head studs at home, and by avoiding all the labor costs it doesn’t take that much $$ to make it a worth while truck to own.
After owning my 6.0 after a year and Daily driven. Love it . It’s. Not a damn race car treated and maintenance right and you’ll be fine. Repairs are expensive af. So keep up with it.
I have 3 of the 6.0 I love my trucks no real emissions equipment as modern deisel and all the power I need to haul the stuff I tow and or carry 2 things tho they are not a city truck long idle times kills all the affirmentioned companies and regular surviving is a must. My work dog has 300k on it and runs like champ but there are a stake of 3 ring binders of service and matance to get there and I will say with proof the heads have never been off once. I did buy a problem truck with 90k that was going on its 3rd set of head for super cheap come to find out the EGR was the original ford and was most likely the cause of the death of the head gasket But the 6.0 is the entusist truck
I love Cummins trucks but why speak ill of 6.0 I have been driving a 6.0 for 3 years and I have not had any problems and the whole truck is completely original until now, only oil changes and so on. In my Cummins it was totally different one year change Transmission injectors turbo was a disappointment for and a waste of money I love my 2004 Ford f250 6.0

@@aceinternational4788 it most definitely is reliable when bulletproofed. Its a matter of how and who does it with what parts. There's literally thousands of cases regarding this. Got a 2004 6.0 stock. Same as you. Keeping it forever. Starting a project to fix up the truck cosmetically. Paint peeled and interior is just rough from kids, camping, etc. I'll probably die before it does.
My 6.0's have been the best trucks I personally ever owned. I had a stock 2006 F-250 thatI tuned and daily drove. It was nearing 200k miles and I thought something might go wrong so I sold that truck and got a 6.7 Powerstroke. That truck blew up at 150k miles. The biggest difference is when the 6.7 goes, that's a $15k bill. I ended up getting a 2005 F-350 to replace that truck and once again I have 200k miles but this truck is bullet proofed (minus water pump) with a semi built trans. You can fix a 6.0 for a lot cheaper than a 6.7 and I can actually work on my 6.0. I liked the 6.7 but I'm happier with my 6.0.
The 6.0 isn't as bad as everyone really makes it off to be cummins and duramax have similar issues people just like to hate in the 6.0 yes there finicky but you can keep up on maintenance there amazing

I’ve had my 6.0 for 3 years now fully stock with an x4 tuner running the looney tune. Never had major issues just had to replace ipr valve once. My dad has a 6.4 and he’s had 3 different motors put in and 4 turbos. The 6.0 isn’t even a comparison for the worst powerstroke against the 6.4
As a Ford man I loved the 6.0, (loved the sound) then the problems started. I spent a lot of weekends and busted knuckles on that truck. After awhile I just gave up and got a gas F350 and waited for the 6.7. A word of advice for all the 6.7 owners, install a disaster prevention kit it'll save you a lot of time, money and busted knuckles. Take it from my experience. The 7.3 also had a HEUI system. Wasn’t new in 03 with the 6.blow debut. Those 6.0 injectors are as sensitive to contamination as a common rail system though. The 7.3 could have concrete running in the fuel and it wouldn’t care…
lol.... shows what you know, i've been running unfilterd used motor oil in my 6.0 for about 40,000 miles now, she makes 700 hp at the rear wheels and 1400 ft lbs of tourqe shes unessisarily fast, the injectors are very tough design, the oil side is the only side thats sensitive, the fuel side not so much. if it is something the government says we shouldnt burn in our diesel pickups my trucks burned it JP8, Kerosene, Offroad Diesel, used veggie oil, Used ATF, Used Motor oil.
Jack, you are correct sir!! I’ve owned the 7.3 and I currently own a 6.0. The 7.3 was just so reliable that the truck will completely wear out but that engine just doesn’t care and wants to just run and run. The 6.0 on the other hand is much much less reliable ( I spent more on repairs the first year of ownership of the 6.0 than I spent the entire sixteen years I had my 7.3) but is a lot more fun to drive.
Owned a 2004 6.0 for 12 yrs. Did headgaskets once, did all injectors once, ran a 125hp tune on it. Thing pulled like a freight train. Drove it for over 500,000 khms before selling. Loved the truck and miss it. I now have a 6.7 and would like another 6.0 again..

I personally love the sound of the 6.0, there’s a lot to love about it but the trade off for owning it is overpaying for “maintenance”
I have been stranded in more 7.3 trucks than 6.0s. All have been service trucks. Always felt 6.0 was better at warning you when it wasn't feeling well than a 7.3
6.0s are badass thats all thats to it. Easy to fix things before they break. Coolant filter, egr delete, regular oil changes. And youre ready to go. Even if you do have to put 3-5k into the motor whats the big deal when all the cummins fan boys are dumping 4-6k into a transmission then crossing their fingers when they get over half throttle haha
It’s pick your poison. You have to build the engine with the Ford, and you have to build the transmission with the Dodge. They both make the same horsepower stock, but the Dodge has more torque. The only real advantage the Ford has is the crew cab, but Dodge has the mega cab
Love ma 6.0 truck, once you know what to upgrade and don't over tune your components limits. Its love Funny thing is we all know the issues, are relatively easy to work with and yes you know you have to update EGR and get her studded. Now they are regaining popularity because the issues are all known and some brand new trucks are even more fragile
Only thing I saw wrong with the video is that you said the 6.0 is known for heui... but the 7.3s is also a heui. Otherwise pretty accurate. I still love 6.0s to death tho. Not many bottom ends can take the abuse and high rpm that those do. Plus, duramaxs have tons of headgasjet failures amd injectors failures but somehow they avoid the hate. Go ask any diesel shop that works on both. They stud just as many duramax's as they do 6.0s
I had an ‘06 King Ranch for a couple years and I loved the sound of that 6.0 and the power it had was awesome. I did all the maintenance and I never had an issue with it. It had 115k miles and still drove like new. I only sold it because I didn’t really need that much power just to tow my jetski 😂
People absolutely tickle me with their logic lol. They became so loyal to a brand that they make excuses for everything. Its a great truck if.... Upgrade head gaskets Watch oil pressure Dont dog it Upgrade the injectors Sacrifice a human to it daily Don't actually do truck work with it lol Folks, call it for what it is. Its a poorly designed vehicle that is full of faults and defects. Its a money pit that will leave you stranded at some point.... I hear all these excuses for those 3 valve Triton engines that had proprietary spark plugs and were known for losing power and blowing plugs out of the heads. The forums were filled with people saying that you have to bullet proof them 🤣. Why not just get a truck that is known for reliability than some crap with proprietary plugs?
Everyone knows the 6.0 has faults on the reliability side. But many people also want the 6.0’s performance side. You’re focusing on one side of the picture while other folks are seeing both sides. Stock for stock, a 6.0 will outperform most other pre-emissions diesels. They’re fast, responsive, pull hard and come with indestructible tranny. They drive really well. These are design strengths. There’s a huge performance parts market on these engines for a reason. People also over-think this engine. It’s not hard to get reliability out of a 6.0 if you do your research.
I own a 05 6.0 f-250, at 300,000 miles bolts stretched and blew head gasket, I've since bullet proofed it and installed bigger injectors so far runs great and yes I love the Turbo Sound, another issue like mine is the weak Power Steering pumps that keep going out, and the hydro boost going out that controls the brakes and the power steering. But still love the 6.0
It’s ashame the 6.0 and 6.4 engines are junk. The ford truck is great it’s that junk powerjoke under the that’s the problem. If ford used the 5.9 commonrail in these trucks ram wouldn’t exist
Comes down to maintenance, abuse, and preventative upgrades. I know of a few 6.0 owners, all with different opinions. My grandpa had a 2005 DRW 350 or 450. That thing had less than 25k mikes when he started having issues. Only used for towing and the funny thing is its the turbo that went bad. His neighbor who farms and daily’s a 6.0 has almost 350k miles and is on the original motor/tranny, so it really is a toss up. I think my grandpa didn’t drive his 6.0 enough tbh. As someone who is torn on wether to go the 6.0 route or a 6.7 route. My buddy went from a manual 6.0 with some mild modifications to a 2015 6.7 and he says they aren’t comparable and that his 6.7 is better in every way. His 6.7 is completely stock minus a different exhaust. Sucks cause I can get good deal 6.0’s all day, like lariats or King Ranches with 50k miles for 25k. I plan the truck would need 10k worth of mandatory upgrades and probably 10k worth of fun upgrades, if not more. If I get a 6.7, im probably looking at 40-50k from the start. For nostalgia purposes, the idea of a 6.0 build sounds fun as hell, but problematic and frustrating 😅
Ok lemme spit some facts the 6.0 is a reliable motor if the proper steps are taken tune and delete truck throw in some head studs and let the motor warm up and cool down before every drive dont abuse the thing every single day just work it ive done this with my old 6.0 and it had 400k miles on it with no issues
Well said brother. My 2006 6.0 just hit 181,000 miles on it with no real shop visits besides 1 ficm due to me neglecting to change old bad batteries . I’m not studded but I’m deleted and tuned . Besides routine oil changes etc the truck runs like a bat out of hell.
I don't know but I think Ford should have kept longer 6.0 Powerstroke a slight chance similar to what Dodge did with SRT Hellcat 6.2 & 6.4 in 2015-2023 there was no for 6.4 Powerstroke. I understand EPA standards I think Ford Motor company drop the ball in 2007-2008 6.0 powerstroke was the same level of Chevy 6.6 Duramax engine if love horsepower had it you want it a work horse you had it
All the HEUI stuff effects the 94.5-03 7.3s also. In fact, the FICM issue 6.0's have is also in the 7.3 as the IDM....a 7.3 is problematic as well, we shouldn't have revisionist history.
I bought one 3 years ago. It was super clean and super cheap. I bought it to cut in half and stretch to 6 doors. 40k miles and 3 years later I still daily drive it. I’ve loaded my family up, hooked up a large camper and made 2 trips across the country in it. That said, you are correct that it takes a special kinda person to willing own one. Full bulletproof on day one… still kept clogging oil coolers. Finally went with a remote 6.7 IPR cooler with filter and temps are no longer an issue. If you turn your own wrenches, it can be a very capable and close effective truck. If you don’t do your own work, a brand new diesel truck would be cheaper!
best solution for the oil cooler and EGR problems is remove the part, then its not an issue, my trucks been cranking out 700 hp and 1400 ft lbs of tourqe since 2012 its a 05 harley truck, and well. the oil cooler is just a plate that has hose fittings to feed a AIr to oil cooler in the grille, and the EGR, it fell off somewhere around 5,000 miles trucks got 210k on it, issue free realitivly speaking the only problems i've been having is Aftermarket injector manufacturers Quality control OUT of the box being broken, so i orderd some of the special tooling and beans Diesel injector rebuild kit, and a shitton of used core injectors, i build my own injectors, save a bunch of money and im not questioning if they're put together right. trucks only had 3 sets so far.
My 04 f350 drw has made the trip to power stroke specialties for the life time dealership proofing. The power is awesome and a lifetime head warranty make me have no worries about driving it for many years to come.
just bought a second one , there are two ways to have a good 6.0 ....do absolutely nothing to them and drive with your head ,or do everything to them and drive with your foot

The 6.0 is better than everyone makes it out to be. I love the sound of them although on a personal preference standpoint I prefer the 5.9 cr Cummins and LLY/LBZ duramax over the 6.0 because I like the performance better on those motors.
you dont' need to bullet proof it as long as your ok doing a egr and oil cooler every 50,000 miles. Im at 100,000 and still didn't get a head gastket
I have a 2001 crew cab 7.3l F250. 300k miles and runs great!

Would a stock 6.0 or 6.4 psd be a good reliable daily driver if left stock?
Before even watching the video and just reading the title I can tell you that it should say 6.4!!!

As an owner of a 6.0 I agree that the 6.4 was the worst thing ever.
Keep thinking the 6.0’s suck, I’ll keep buying them for cheap and correcting the “issues” and then reliably pulling 15-17k pounds with them.
Love ma 6.0 truck, once you know what to upgrade and don't over tune your components limits. Its love
Funny thing is we all know the issues, are relatively easy to work with and yes you know you have to update EGR and get her studded.
Now they are regaining popularity because the issues are all known and some brand new trucks are even more fragile
I had a 2004 6.0. Bone stock. Drove it for just over 200k with zero issues. Nothing wrong with that motor.
Drove my stock 03 with 340k miles from Maine to western Idaho virtually non stop, 5 hours of sleep in between. The thing didn’t skip a beat
But it’s fun!
You don’t like rolling burnouts towing the jet ski?
Then you needed a bigger toy, not a smaller truck 😂
sold it right before the egr cooler blew the engine!
People absolutely tickle me with their logic lol. They became so loyal to a brand that they make excuses for everything. Its a great truck if....
Upgrade head gaskets
Watch oil pressure
Dont dog it
Upgrade the injectors
Sacrifice a human to it daily
Don't actually do truck work with it lol
Folks, call it for what it is.
I have a 6.0 and absolutely love it. LOVE IT! 😂.
I’ve owned one in the past and I just bought another one. Love the look and you can’t beat the sound!
The 6.4 is the worst hands down
So you want a 6.4 powerstroke ought to make for one entertaining video lmao
I own a 05 6.0 f-250, at 300,000 miles bolts stretched and blew head gasket, I've since bullet proofed it and installed bigger injectors so far runs great and yes I love the Turbo Sound, another issue like mine is the weak Power Steering pumps that keep going out, and the hydro boost going out that controls the brakes and the power steering.
But still love the 6.0
**Freed diesel is offended**
I was going to comment something like “ well you obviously Havnt looked into 6.4s “ but I see that’s already even covered lmao
