@@timhartschen1638 Not a fan of the EGR delete, increase in combustion temps worries me with the already high potential for HG failures. However, i've heard people have had success with it, if my egr cooler fails then Ill probably delete.
Got a 2004 6.0 stock. Same as you. Keeping it forever. Starting a project to fix up the truck cosmetically. Paint peeled and interior is just rough from kids, camping, etc. I'll probably die before it does.
@@aceinternational4788 a 6.0 can be fixed, a 6.4 can't. its such a drastic failure of an engine to the point not even powerstrokehelp is willing to touch them anymore, while he's still regularly bulletproofing the 6.0s with success.
@@johnkenley4687 no both engines are trash and garbage the 6.0 needs tons of money to get it running and is not reliable even when it gets bulletproof Ed so better off just ditch those power stroke and get yourself a 7.3 or 6.7
@@aceinternational4788 it most definitely is reliable when bulletproofed. Its a matter of how and who does it with what parts. There's literally thousands of cases regarding this. The 6.4 is entirely different in that there is literally no way to bulletproof them. There wouldn't be a deficated powerstroke help channel that still makes how to's and tips on what it takes to get them in a good state. Sure it takes money, but you can still fix it without having to entirely replace the engine as a whole.
Owned a 2004 6.0 for 12 yrs. Did headgaskets once, did all injectors once, ran a 125hp tune on it. Thing pulled like a freight train. Drove it for over 500,000 khms before selling. Loved the truck and miss it. I now have a 6.7 and would like another 6.0 again..
The 6.0 isn't as bad as everyone really makes it off to be cummins and duramax have similar issues people just like to hate in the 6.0 yes there finicky but you can keep up on maintenance there amazing
@@NuclearSandwich7 1998.5-01 24v headgasket. Have had three in shop in last two weeks. 24v 53 blocks cracking. 6.7 Cummins turbo actuators. Latest cp4 pump takes a dump and your looking at a 10 grand bill. They all have problems.
@@jacobcountryman8172 cp4 is already off of the new trucks (back to cp3), you’re right about the turbo actuators they are shit on all the trucks. Never seen a head gasket go on a cummins that wasn’t being hot rodded without head studs. Not exactly a fair comparison IMO. 6.0 will blow a head gasket totally stock.
My 6.0's have been the best trucks I personally ever owned. I had a stock 2006 F-250 thatI tuned and daily drove. It was nearing 200k miles and I thought something might go wrong so I sold that truck and got a 6.7 Powerstroke. That truck blew up at 150k miles. The biggest difference is when the 6.7 goes, that's a $15k bill. I ended up getting a 2005 F-350 to replace that truck and once again I have 200k miles but this truck is bullet proofed (minus water pump) with a semi built trans. You can fix a 6.0 for a lot cheaper than a 6.7 and I can actually work on my 6.0. I liked the 6.7 but I'm happier with my 6.0.
@@richardr.6030 Yes, I tow with her. She was built for towing. Temps. wise I don't have an actual number because i didn't install an "EGT" gauge pod until after work was complete. However, stock gauge temps didn't change, maybe cooler from other mods. Tunes from innovative diesel area big difference, 4 tunes for 175 or 1 tune for 125. I went with 4. Tow, economy, street and performance. Able to get 17/25 mpg on economy and still more responsive than stock. Tow makes easy work on anything being pulled, never thought she couldn't do it. Hope that helps!
I have an 03 f250 6.0. With 160K miles. It is all stock except for the upgraded EGR cooler. They are better than some of the other options. More power than the 7.3 and the cummins 12 valve. Things I have been told to help them live. 1) change oil and coolant at recommended intervals 2) change fuel filer every 10K and only use the Ford factory filter. 3) Dont turn em up. 4) Avoid a lot of short trips. Try to drive 20 miles at highway speed once or twice a week and spool the turbo up. 5) Use a good fuel conditioner at every fill up. 6) plan on spending $1000 if anything goes wrong and keep $3000 in the bank in case the injectors go. I am planning to keep mine another 20 years. I hate the thought of pulling the cab off to rebuild the engine, but at least the engines are normally good rebuild canidates.
03 6.0 289k miles Word of advice… Do an egr delete, your life will be easier If you don’t have a coolant filter, replace the oil cooler and add a coolant filter. You’ll thank yourself Don’t add more power, unless you’re going the whole 9 yards with new studs and etc. Look at the 7.3, less power, less problems
@@edwardman1742 I use valvoline zerex g05. Technically you should use the motorcraft brand coolant but there’s not much difference and I’ve never had a bad experience with valvoline
@@aircraftnut15 completely stupid, wish that wasn’t the case. But when ford was manufacturing the blocks for the 6.0, they we made outside of the US and the quality check wasn’t there. I personally love the sound of the 6.0, there’s a lot to love about it but the trade off for owning it is overpaying for “maintenance”
I’ve had my 6.0 for 3 years now fully stock with an x4 tuner running the looney tune. Never had major issues just had to replace ipr valve once. My dad has a 6.4 and he’s had 3 different motors put in and 4 turbos. The 6.0 isn’t even a comparison for the worst powerstroke against the 6.4
There not as bad as people make them out to me. I have 3 6.0s a 2005 F250 stock ccsb 228k, 2004 eclb F350 stock 310k, 2005 F550 21 foot rollback tow truck bulletproofed with over 520k. All truck pull trailers on the regular and the tow truck works every day pretty much. For what I paid for them I have no complaints, like he said you can pick them up dirt cheap and if you keep up the maintenance they run fine if you keep them stock.
As a Ford man I loved the 6.0, (loved the sound) then the problems started. I spent a lot of weekends and busted knuckles on that truck. After awhile I just gave up and got a gas F350 and waited for the 6.7. A word of advice for all the 6.7 owners, install a disaster prevention kit it'll save you a lot of time, money and busted knuckles. Take it from my experience. Now if you want more power from your 6.7 powerstroke get a compound turbo kit from Maryland diesel performance you'll love it.🍆

I had an ‘06 King Ranch for a couple years and I loved the sound of that 6.0 and the power it had was awesome. I did all the maintenance and I never had an issue with it. It had 115k miles and still drove like new. I only sold it because I didn’t really need that much power just to tow my jetski 😂
I own a 05 6.0 f-250, at 300,000 miles bolts stretched and blew head gasket, I've since bullet proofed it and installed bigger injectors so far runs great and yes I love the Turbo Sound, another issue like mine is the weak Power Steering pumps that keep going out, and the hydro boost going out that controls the brakes and the power steering. But still love the 6.0
I’ve deleted mine and did a new oil cooler with a coolant filter and I must say it definitely revived the truck haven’t had a single issue out of it since
The 7.3 also had a HEUI system. Wasn’t new in 03 with the 6.blow debut. Those 6.0 injectors are as sensitive to contamination as a common rail system though. The 7.3 could have concrete running in the fuel and it wouldn’t care…
lol.... shows what you know, i've been running unfilterd used motor oil in my 6.0 for about 40,000 miles now, she makes 700 hp at the rear wheels and 1400 ft lbs of tourqe shes unessisarily fast, the injectors are very tough design, the oil side is the only side thats sensitive, the fuel side not so much. if it is something the government says we shouldnt burn in our diesel pickups my trucks burned it JP8, Kerosene, Offroad Diesel, used veggie oil, Used ATF, Used Motor oil.
Jack, you are correct sir!! I’ve owned the 7.3 and I currently own a 6.0. The 7.3 was just so reliable that the truck will completely wear out but that engine just doesn’t care and wants to just run and run. The 6.0 on the other hand is much much less reliable ( I spent more on repairs the first year of ownership of the 6.0 than I spent the entire sixteen years I had my 7.3) but is a lot more fun to drive.
My 04 f350 drw has made the trip to power stroke specialties for the life time dealership proofing. The power is awesome and a lifetime head warranty make me have no worries about driving it for many years to come.
I have an 05 Excursion w the 6L. Absolutely love it and it's been pretty dam reliable. She's been bulletproofed, has the straight pipe and it is the most fun vehicle to drive. Everyone loves Tiny. Has the old SCT livewire which it is currently on the performance tune. Drove from Calgary to California pulling a trailer. Not 1 problem. Did do tye head gaskets due to them not being done properly when I purchased it. Fingers crossed she stays together! Almost 200,000kms and still strong
I bought one 3 years ago. It was super clean and super cheap. I bought it to cut in half and stretch to 6 doors. 40k miles and 3 years later I still daily drive it. I’ve loaded my family up, hooked up a large camper and made 2 trips across the country in it. That said, you are correct that it takes a special kinda person to willing own one. Full bulletproof on day one… still kept clogging oil coolers. Finally went with a remote 6.7 IPR cooler with filter and temps are no longer an issue. If you turn your own wrenches, it can be a very capable and close effective truck. If you don’t do your own work, a brand new diesel truck would be cheaper!
best solution for the oil cooler and EGR problems is remove the part, then its not an issue, my trucks been cranking out 700 hp and 1400 ft lbs of tourqe since 2012 its a 05 harley truck, and well. the oil cooler is just a plate that has hose fittings to feed a AIr to oil cooler in the grille, and the EGR, it fell off somewhere around 5,000 miles trucks got 210k on it, issue free realitivly speaking the only problems i've been having is Aftermarket injector manufacturers Quality control OUT of the box being broken, so i orderd some of the special tooling and beans Diesel injector rebuild kit, and a shitton of used core injectors, i build my own injectors, save a bunch of money and im not questioning if they're put together right. trucks only had 3 sets so far.
Only thing I saw wrong with the video is that you said the 6.0 is known for heui... but the 7.3s is also a heui. Otherwise pretty accurate. I still love 6.0s to death tho. Not many bottom ends can take the abuse and high rpm that those do. Plus, duramaxs have tons of headgasjet failures amd injectors failures but somehow they avoid the hate. Go ask any diesel shop that works on both. They stud just as many duramax's as they do 6.0s
Had an 05 with the stage 3 bulletproof offering installed with a sct x4 and truck was solid. I sold that truck and now on my second build. Found a gem, an 04 with only 58k original miles. I can’t wait to build this one
I’ve had my 6.0 dually for 7 years now, and it’s a tow beast. I replaced the oem oil cooler with a BD Power air-to-oil cooler and my oil temp is typically 10-15 below coolant temp running around unladen. Oil never gets hotter than coolant, even when towing 16k lbs. Second best thing I added was Hellwig sway bars.
I have had my 6.0 since 2012. Bought it used. I got it bulletproofed or so I thought. New FICM, head bolts, CPU, IPR etc. Coolant fluid filter. Still have small issues but working through them. Love your site. Keep up the good work.
Love ma 6.0 truck, once you know what to upgrade and don't over tune your components limits. Its love Funny thing is we all know the issues, are relatively easy to work with and yes you know you have to update EGR and get her studded. Now they are regaining popularity because the issues are all known and some brand new trucks are even more fragile
I owned 04 6.0 . One day went to start it and nothing .. so instead of taking it to a mechanic shop witch I could not afford at the time .. I sent weeks trying to figure it out .. Went to UA-cam found Diesel tech Ron I think that his name .. found out it was the ficm computer. I love the truck wish I could have kept it now that have the money to do whatever it needs …
I’ve had 6 ford f350 6L diesels and love them and I’ll never stop buying I know they can be a nightmare, with the problems but once you deal with the aggravations and spend a bit of money on them they are are the best truck you could own and I don’t care what people say you can’t convince me otherwise or say anything different
I had an 05 f350 for a few years and despite the issues I loved that truck. I sold it about 7 or 8 years ago and am now looking to get another low mile 6.0.
I have one. I didn't know what I was getting into when I got it, I actually went to the dealer looking for a smaller truck, like maybe 4 door tacoma, but then I saw that big diesel for less money and said "wait more truck for less money? Sign me up". It was hilarious because suddenly all my friends and neighbors who have one came out of the woodwork, little did I know that I had joined a club. I admit it's a love-hate relationship. It does have Gremlins, but man I just love that truck so much.
I bought one and am in the process of a total Bulletproofing. Everything from the oil and EGR, head bolts, turbo, injectors, radiator, Banks Intercooler, aluminum degass reservoir
Just saw this video and yes I have a 2004 6L. I have had a couple of issues with mine but addressed some of those issues early on. I have been stranded once with a 40ft 5th wheel on the back! High pressure oil pump which controls the fuel injectors! Repaired it! I do love that whistle especially when you remove the Cat! Oh did I say that? I live in SoCal so I would never do that! you have to take the 6.4 to the shop because it is like the inside of the motor while the 6.0 problems can get done in a day or two because it is mostly on the outside of the motor. and 6.4 for SO YOU WANT A 6.4 powerstorke.
Exactly. And the reason why “bulletproofed” 6.0s seem to blow up anyway, is because the owner doesn’t fully bulletproof it, and they use cheap knock off parts. A properly bulletproofed and updated 6.0, that’s maintained properly, will last just as long and be more capable than a 7.3.
@@robbieoff-road9329 I can say from experience, that you usually can get away with just and EGR update, head studs, billet water pump, 58v FICM, and just regular maintenance for quite a while. That’s what my truck has, and so far I’ve gotten 12k trouble free miles of long trips out of it. I will be finishing it off though, with a BP Diesel oil cooler. But it really just depends on how you care for your truck. Any truck or car will experience mechanical failures if you don’t maintain it. So just be vigilant, and if you know what to look for, you can have it fixed before it results in a catastrophic engine failure.

Would definitely consider buying a bulletproofed 6.0 with lower miles they sound great and being bulletproofed without trying to push a ton of power they can be great trucks.
i drove a f450 dually with a custom flatbed on it when i did construction, you had to left foot brake it and spool it up a bit to launch into traffic with a 35 foot gooseneck trailer and a 20,000 pound manlift, but by god it would launch once you did that haha! never had any issues with that truck, we had one of the rare good ones. had over 200,000 miles on it when it was sold.
The 6.0 is a tank once you do the upgrades plus no Def fluid crap and it sounds like a Truck should! Got mine at 150k Did studs head gaskets hpop fitting filter kit, blue spring, egr delete and a SCT X4 tuner at 180k it just rolled over 700k without any problems on the way normal oil changes there except 1 turbo rebuild and 5 sets of 38s. I'll take another 6.0 any day especially with the new one's costing 5 times the price or half a house. There is always a hater out there gonna hate on the 6.0
I own a 6.0. It’s a love hate relationship. Now that I’ve replaced almost everything that can be replaced it runs like a champ and pull a heavy trailer with no problem. However, I know the emotional roller coaster ride that most owners go through. Why do I keep it? I like it more than I want to get rid of.
The 6.0 is better than everyone makes it out to be. I love the sound of them although on a personal preference standpoint I prefer the 5.9 cr Cummins and LLY/LBZ duramax over the 6.0 because I like the performance better on those motors.
My 6.0 has 231,000 miles, I just replaced the original oil cooler, it has original injectors, and original head bolts. Only thing wrong with it now is valve cover gaskets. Great truck.
2004 Replaced my oil cooler at ~200K out of paranoia when I started learning more about them. Added a coolant filter. Did the blue spring upgrade. Everything else has been non engine related. Sunroof, horn, bodywork. Still need a new paint job due to peeling. That's it. Keeping it forever.
6.0s are badass thats all thats to it. Easy to fix things before they break. Coolant filter, egr delete, regular oil changes. And youre ready to go. Even if you do have to put 3-5k into the motor whats the big deal when all the cummins fan boys are dumping 4-6k into a transmission then crossing their fingers when they get over half throttle haha
It’s pick your poison. You have to build the engine with the Ford, and you have to build the transmission with the Dodge. They both make the same horsepower stock, but the Dodge has more torque. The only real advantage the Ford has is the crew cab, but Dodge has the mega cab
6.0 Is BY FAR my favorite diesel. But only because they have such a bad reputation that I've been given 2 crew cab short boxes for free from people that didn't want to deal with the problems. I'm actually not a ford or a diesel guy.
An alternative to the 6.0 in the Ford platform, get one (the VT365) in an international platform. Easier to work on, similar power and torque numbers (depending on engine family), and some cases an Allison transmission behind it. I got one in an International platform, and so far I like it.
Oh my, I just bought an 05. To pull a horse trailer. Let just say, the truck is stock. And very well maintained. Serviced regularly and owned by an old man that babied it. The turbo was replaced 2 years ago. It looks and drive great. I'm just hoping to learn as much as possible about my truck. Thank you for this.
Deleted and studded mine with longevity care, mods, maintenance and tuning after warranty was up. Always used good oil, archoil and OEM filters. Had my '06 since new. Best vehicle I've ever owned. Never had to do the front ect. But I'm in Alberta, Canada so.......
I just bought an 05 with 337k on it. I'm honestly considering a full on restoration because all these newer vehicles have too many restrictions and the electrical issues are not worth the headaches.
First ford diesel video I ever watched, not one comment claiming ford to be the best and most reliable diesel truck ever. 😂😂 I can’t imagine that kind of satisfaction
When I bought my truck, I flushed and replaced the oil cooler and egg cooler with a quality welded unit. Replaced with red ELC and coolant filter. Had the FICM rebuilt properly. Blue spring kit. Nothing else. Truck is NOT TUNED. Stock suspension for towing. It’s champ and was $26K in 2008. I still drive it and tow our boat/trailer. 9K pounds. No issues.
I bought a 06’ HD edition and it’s had its gremlins but God damn I love my truck. It’s clean it’s sexy and that turbo spooling up gets me every time. I never thought I’d own a ford. But here I am loving this one
Ok lemme spit some facts the 6.0 is a reliable motor if the proper steps are taken tune and delete truck throw in some head studs and let the motor warm up and cool down before every drive dont abuse the thing every single day just work it ive done this with my old 6.0 and it had 400k miles on it with no issues
Well said brother. My 2006 6.0 just hit 181,000 miles on it with no real shop visits besides 1 ficm due to me neglecting to change old bad batteries . I’m not studded but I’m deleted and tuned . Besides routine oil changes etc the truck runs like a bat out of hell.
I picked one up so cheap because of head gasket problems. I was glad to put some money into it. It's amazing now and absolute love it. It's gone up so much in value because all the the new government regulations the new ones cost a fortune. If your even thinking about getting a diesel get it before the regulations make the diesel market even more pricey.
I’ve had a 6.0 psd and a Cummins 6.7. The Cummins makes awesome low end tq but the 6.0 is a faster racing engine. I think it also depends on how you drive it. I had an 05 Harley Davidson edition truck with a 6.0 for about 6 years and had no problems. My 6.7 has had a a fuel pump replaced but that’s it. I will be buying another 6.0 next year and selling my deleted Ram. This is personal preference. The 6.7 tows way better but I don’t have to tow anymore.

I drive a 2003 f250 power stroke 6.0. Cold start sux but oh well, great truck on the ranch and sounds like a beast and runs great. I drive my tundra the most, diesel too expensive. No issues with the 6.0 yet, knock on wood. I think if you take care of your truck you’ll be ok. I was a service writer at a Ford dealership in Denton.
just bought a second one , there are two ways to have a good 6.0 ....do absolutely nothing to them and drive with your head ,or do everything to them and drive with your foot
I’m really torn here… ive been looking for a 7.3 excursion for my wife and people just don’t sell them and when they do they want a zillion dollars. A buddy of mine suggested a 6.0 and pay a professional to completely bulletproof it. Thoughts?
6.0 has a modern engine compared to the 7.3 with way more hp. If you don’t have lots of money to pay a mechanic or if you don’t like working on your vehicles then avoid it, otherwise you can do everything but head studs at home, and by avoiding all the labor costs it doesn’t take that much $$ to make it a worth while truck to own.

Get one take care of it by doing routine maintenance. Add an oil bypass filter and a coolant bypass filter. Treat it right and it will do the same. My 2005 f350 has 235,000 miles obit with original turbo, heads and not studded.
I'm on my third 6.0. Traded a 2003 in on a 2006 ( 2wd to 4wd) . I put 330 thousand on that one until a friend wrecked it while I was in the hospital. I bought a 2005 with 220 thousand miles on it that had to have the heads replaced . The two I bought new I never had a head gasket issue or a hot start problem but I did have to replace injectors, transmission , oil cooler and ficm at different times between 200 and 330 thousand miles
i figured i would buy and fix an old 6.0 that needed a few repairs to use for work while i was waiting for a 6.7 i used to own a 6.4 and it couldnt be any worse... well about 5 years and about 270km later, i still drive my 6.0 to work every day many days with trailer in tow. gotta say im impressed. only majorish repair was turbo up pipes . maybe the 07 being the last year of the 6.0 was the best to have, anyways, i love my 15 year old lariat outlaw f350. sounds so good
I have a 2005 6.0 powerstroke. Only had issue with ficm. Once replaced runs beautifully. Auto maintain good motors how to maintain your truck I mean like fluids oils etc then any engine I don't care what it is is going to have problems but I have no problems with my 6.0
I had one but sold it when I joined the army (stationed in Hawaii and forget about a diesel truck here) And I loved it. It was a pain in the ass but it was MY pain in the ass. I had to replace the oil cooler, remove the EGR, EGR cooler, replace a couple other parts and take it to a voodoo witch doctor but after that she was amazing! Had all the power I needed, did pretty good in the mud and snow, had a long bed so I could put whatever I wanted back there and still had room. She was big, loud, and in charge. With all of that said I was still occasionally get an issue with death rattling and I’m not sure what it was but I think maybe 4 or 5 times it had an issue where even if I pinned the accelerator it wouldn’t rev about 2-3k and would pump out white or black (some times both) smoke. I’d have to park (yes happened while driving a couple times) turn the truck off and restart it and it’s be just find. And of course my CAC tubing blew off the turbo a couple times but a new boot fixed that. All in all, it was a good truck but you just had to give it a little extra love and some hate (pretty sure my truck was sentient and had a degradation kink, she just worked good after I told it how much I hated it and how I would drive it into a tree for the insurance money.
My buddy wants to trade his 7.3 powerstroke for my lil Toyota pickup and I’d definitely trade the 7.3 for a bulletproof 6.0. I grew up in 6.0s and they have sentimental value to me.
I went with a 6.0 because I was pretty much pigeon holed into it. I’ve got 6 sons and we needed a bigger vehicle than my Expedition that could handle towing my camper as well as my new tractor. The excursion was pretty much my only option. The market is absolutely wild right now for them however. Almost all of the older 7.3 models were completely beat to shit and they still wanted top dollar for them. Either that or they had been worked like crazy and they were going for double or triple my budget. Ended up finding a sweet single owner truck that spend its life here in Missouri that was at the perfect price point for us. I’m going from the dreaded Triton 3V that people like to trash a lot as well and that truck didn’t give me any problems. I’m just planning on staying on top of maintenance and putting some cash aside for any eventual problems, as well as building a plan for upgrading any of the common failure points if/when they arise. Love the truck so far. Time will tell if I continue to.
great video to watch after just having bought an 06, now I know why it was so much cheaper. Good thing I bought it just for occasional trailer hailing and nothing more.
At 240K mine bit the dust for the 4th time. 1st time about 80K the HPOP went bad about, 95k the EGR cooler went bad, two more times the HPOP seal blew. I planned on replacing the the head gaskets and then stud the heads, but the cylinders are scored. I replace the short block with a Asheville Engines short block an replace the heads with ringed heads the put in all new bullet proof diesel components for the 6.0. I while I had replace the stock pats with the bullet proof diesel parts and re-studded the heads at 150K. Now it is stable and runs great.
So I've had my 04 f350 for about 3 years now. And after 8k in to it and buying it for 10k it's the best truck I've ever owned. Definitely the best sounding by far. And I've had 18k on the back of it. Didn't even know it was there. She may not be fast but she's there. I have upgraded turbo hhop and ficm unit other then a 65hp tow tune,
I love the Pstrokss till the 6.4. I currently have the 6.0 in my 550 dump. I know deletes are ‘illegal’ but my truck is 18yrs old. Now that’s outta the way .. Delete the EGR(this is why the heads blow)learn how to change your IPR(keep an extra in the gbox)change out stock FICM for a 58v version and monitor with a scangauge. I got 205,xxx on my dump. It plows, it pulls, it hauls. I run em till they rot in half.

I have an 03 f250 6.0. With 160K miles. It is all stock except for the upgraded EGR cooler. They are better than some of the other options. More power than the 7.3 and the cummins 12 valve. Things I have been told to help them live.
1) change oil and coolant at recommended intervals
2) change fuel filer every 10K and only use the Ford factory filter.

A 6.0 will fail but it will be fixable a 6.4 will fail but you’d need a new motor
you have to take the 6.4 to the shop because it is like the inside of the motor while the 6.0 problems can get done in a day or two because it is mostly on the outside of the motor. and 6.4 for SO YOU WANT A 6.4 powerstorke.
@@LimaTangoZulu yeah but what if you are dailying it and taking it on long trip like CT to FL would it be okay if you got it mostly bullet proof ?

What coolant do you recommend?
I own a 6.0. It’s a love hate relationship. Now that I’ve replaced almost everything that can be replaced it runs like a champ and pull a heavy trailer with no problem.
However, I know the emotional roller coaster ride that most owners go through. Why do I keep it? I like it more than I want to get rid of.
Loved the 6.0 sounded like a jet engine.

Sounds exactly like mine...224k just did oil cooler...all stock, original used and running strong. Always serviced. Next is ficm.
I have one and I just back-flushed the oil cooler yesterday. It actually freggin worked!
Winning!
Apparently, those have a lot of the same problems.
Oh my, I just bought an 05. To pull a horse trailer. Let just say, the truck is stock. And very well maintained. Serviced regularly and owned by an old man that babied it.
Would a stock 6.0 or 6.4 psd be a good reliable daily driver if left stock?
you dont' need to bullet proof it as long as your ok doing a egr and oil cooler every 50,000 miles. Im at 100,000 and still didn't get a head gastket
The 6.7 tows way better but I don’t have to tow anymore.
i have an 05 harley davidson Edition 6.0 true blue metallic, only thing thats not stock is the entire powertrain, shes stock ride heigh stock wheels etc etc, replaced fog lights with hidden lightbar, she puts down 700 hp and 1400 ft lbs of tourqe at the rear wheels, Been feeding it used motor oil used atf and JP8 for about 2 years now, she runs like a top
If you don’t have lots of money to pay a mechanic or if you don’t like working on your vehicles then avoid it, otherwise you can do everything but head studs at home, and by avoiding all the labor costs it doesn’t take that much $$ to make it a worth while truck to own.
just rebuilt my 60... my buddy did. block bored decked new pistons rings bearings freeze plugs o ringed dk heads... runs great lot more engine power. stock turbo for now
love them 03 6.0s i own two with both running hot tunes on stock headbolts and gasket (pushing 35 psi) not a single issue just delete the egrs and put quality oil and coolant most issues are fixed just watch your tempts...
i just got an 03 with 140,000 miles for 5k lol your comments made me feel much better. how many miles do yours trucks have?
@@robertdilullo6765 have you replace your injectors or had arp studs installed? If yes at what milage?
@@juanjaimes1836 my first 6.0 had 500k miles on loney wild tune stock injectors etc ... 2nd 6.0 has 220k on papers but 130k on dash so not to sure what the total mileage is
I agree I had an 06 6.0 for 15 years great truck sold it to get a 6.7 that truck was not worth it returned it to carmax kept my 03 6.0 which has a different cam profile then any of the rest of the 6.0 stock and they do noticeable have better low end grunt and take off the 03 is very snappy on the throttle pedal compared to the 06 I had funny after the 6.7 debacle I ended up with a 2000 7.3 6 speed and the 03 6.0 auto still lol
Get one take care of it by doing routine maintenance. Add an oil bypass filter and a coolant bypass filter. Treat it right and it will do the same. My 2005 f350 has 235,000 miles obit with original turbo, heads and not studded.
You dont need to install a coolant filter, just do a proper flush and run a non-silica elc.
Auto maintain good motors how to maintain your truck I mean like fluids oils etc then any engine I don't care what it is is going to have problems but I have no problems with my 6.0
Yup I got a 5.4 and had it bulletproofed and she runs like a horse, no problems at all. Just a good ass motor
I had one but sold it when I joined the army (stationed in Hawaii and forget about a diesel truck here)
And I loved it.
Keep thinking the 6.0’s suck, I’ll keep buying them for cheap and correcting the “issues” and then reliably pulling 15-17k pounds with them.
I have a 2001 crew cab 7.3l F250. 300k miles and runs great!
Best sounding diesel engines ever!!! Built Ford Tuff!!!
If it were bulletproofed, I might not mind owning one.
I'll still take a 7.3 over it any day though, lol
a man i can be friends with
I went with a 6.0 because I was pretty much pigeon holed into it.
Today is my birthday and boy was I not expecting this video😂😂
I have upgraded turbo hhop and ficm unit other then a 65hp tow tune,
Shit got my 6.0 as precaution did all the stuff and runs like a a champ now waiting for new 155/30 injectors, can’t wait
Don’t be afraid of a 6.0.. done right they’re amazing and I love mine
I'm buying a 2007 in a few days with 260k miles. Truck originally from Tennessee and I'm in NY so it's underbody is perfect. no rust omg. lol.
