I was in EMS for 38 years as a primary care medic, advanced care medic and later as a critical care medic. I teach first aid and cpr now. I stumbled onto your video by accident and it solved a huge teaching problem for me post COVID with social distancing. How to demonstrate some things. Your use of that foam to represent a limb is fantastic! You have a very good and effective teaching style. well done.
Excellent video. I worked as a paramedic for 20 years with 5 years as a paramedic instructor and you do a great job with your explanation of how to use the Israeli bandage. Thanks for posting.
Very important what you've said here, a lot of folks never think that these types of situations can happen but they do. Just some basic instructions on what to do is better than standing around like a doofus watching someone bleed to death in front of you. Skinny Medic is about the only channel that will SHOW you what to actually do.
I’m not a paramedic but I am a former Phlebotomist and current dialysis patient, so I’ve been in and around hospitals my entire 32 years. I love watching your videos because, not only are they entertaining and very informative, but if I’m able to potentially help myself at home rather than run to the ER (rememberer I’m already in the hospital enough as is. lol) then I’m a happy lil disabled woman! Of course, I know my body well enough to know when I SHOULD go to the ER for something serious and I shouldn’t take your videos as medical advice as I’m not a first responder, myself. Thank you, SkinnyMedic! PS. Your son is so well behaved! Most kids would’ve been squirming around and acting up when it comes to anything medical related; even acted out First Aid. Kudos to him! 👏🏻 👏🏻 👏🏻
I like this fella. Humble, not full of himself, educated, AND is an avid 2A supporter. I use these videos to help teach my girls how to use my kits if I'm not around to do it. And I also learn alot myself. Keep it up!
So helpful. Thank you! I have 3 of your IFAKs. 1 in the car, 1 in my range bag, and 1 in my night stand. Gonna tuck another 1 in my desk at work. No one should die for lack of simple tools and knowledge.
when I have emergency aid questions I always check out your channel. used it to help with my combat life saver course I had a few years ago. passed that with flying colors. I now keep this channel saved as a refrsher and as one level of medical aid advice.
Hey Skinny Medic, I'm a newly certified EMT from NJ and I just wanted to say I've picked up a TON of helpful tips from your videos in the month that I've been subscribed to the channel. Keep on dropping knowledge buddy!
I think you can add that you apply the tourniquet above the knee, stop the bleeding, THEN you pack the wounds and apply the Israeli bandage, then loosen the tourniquet to restore flow. That is the latest I was trained to do.
This is by far one of the 2 best first-aid videos I’ve ever seen in my life. I’m 61 years old. In a word: Outstanding!! Well done young man. This goes far beyond the basic Israeli bandage how-to. Will continue to share this 👍
Great walkthrough and explanation/tips... who knows how many lives will be saved/affected due to your efforts... I'm going to go practice on the hound and cats asap!
We had an hunting accident, so i applied a Israeli T3 trauma bandage to a gunshot wound ( a 12 gauge slug) but there wasn't large bleeding. The slug hit the thigh. This bandage is really good.(Bulgaria)
Don't forget your bleedstop before you pack that wound. It definitely helps to slow down the bleeding. If the wound is bad, always put a tourniquet above the wound. A tourniquet is a lifesaver
Just found your channel, thanks! I just finished a CERT refresher course and in process of refreshing 1st responder as well. Your channel is a great help reminding me of the limits to follow as well! Again, thanks!
Another great video! I know you covered this in the course but it's a great way to keep the knowledge in the forefront of my brain. And yes those of us who took the course all smiled during the video because we all remember the old lady in the church:-)
Thank you so much .These videos helped me when a weighted movie theatre doors metal whether stripping cut my wife’s foot open when she was wearing open toed shoes I luckily had a improvised IFak in my car and stop the bleeding after about a pint was lost.
hey skinny medic, any plans to do more vids on how to id fake med equipment and can you make a dvd series available for purchase on your website detailing how to handle different types of traumatic injuries (sort of like a crash course) for those that can't make it to a class at the moment?
Tactical Cats that would be great. I like the thought of dvd. Then again maybe just play list of training for each type of injury/medical situation. that should ONLY take two or three weeks of 12 to 16 hour days to get it done. All joking aside I do love the practical way you do vidios Mr. Skinny.
i agree about the fake med equipment...just received a 4 inch emergency bandage from amazon and it doesn't have a bar code on it...good job its for practice use...
_FEMA Res - I have asked this before but never got a reply; I also used the 'contact us' at his website to ask about a couple of items I wanted to order but never got replies, so there may be a problem with the servers not delivering messages.
Great vid. Just a couple questions. One: what if there is no emergency assistance available... ever? How (for a person who doesn't know much) would you take off a tourniquet once you have controled bleeding? And two: same thing with a Israeli bandage. Thanks!
may I ask why is it ENSW pattern? Why not North,East,South,West clockwise circular pattern to cover all the crevices of the wound? Is there any reason why is it E-N-S-W ?
This is the Israeli Bandage's response to the Olaes Bandage. I'm thankful, because I prefer the construction/design of the Israeli and now it has features that even the Olaes doesn't: secondary wound pad and arm loop. Although I do appreciate the Olaes pressure cup, the T3 Israeli is a better bandage. And less bulky than the standard packed Olaes (but mire bulk than standard Israeli)!!!
Is it fair to assume that for cross contamination concerns the Isreali Bandage, and for that matter a tourniquette, can only be used once? If they can be reused, what is used to clean the bandage and tourniquettes for safe reuse that will not damage the materials?
I'm new to this and a little confused.. If someone gets shot in a limb, shouldn't the first thing be to set up a tourniquet? Then try to tend to the wound below the tourniquet and bandage it up? Please help me understand 🙏 thank you
Great vid bud. I never heard of an Israeli bandage before. Thank you for the video and the great information. I just found your channel a few days ago and immediately subscribed. Keep up the great work. 👍 May I ask why you wait for 5minutes instead of immediately applying the pressure bandage?
Good Video but if you do have a deep open wound and put a tourniquet on it then you still need to cover the wound with gauze and secure it to be sure dirt and other things can get in the wound to infect it.
I’m a complete newbie who got a kit for hiking safety. I believe that wounds while hiking will never be this deep but question: If the wound is let’s say half deep as the one of the video, would I still need to “fill” the hole?
What is your opinion on using a TQ first to stop the bleeding and then pack the wound and thrown a pressure dressing over it. After that, release the TQ to see packed wound worked effectively? Assuming you would still meet the golden hour.
Raven Starver if ya can’t get said wounded persons to doctors within the 1 golden hours and with a tq the chance of limb lose goes up the longer you leave it on.
1st things 1st always thrown on a tq, 2nd if the wound looks anything like that always pack and gauge. Tq's can be kept on for upwards of 20 hours with no limb loss.
About that simulated leg wound. Couldn't you put a TQ on the leg initially to stop the breeding, then stuff quick clot gauze in the wound, wrap it up with the Israeli bandage, then take the TQ off the leg? Or would that be bad?
Well if you are a Medic than yes. That actually would be a great idea. That course of action would probably stop the bleeding and save the limb. But if you are not a EMT/Medic best action for arterial bleeding from a arm or leg is just TQ application, and fast transport to the hospital. TQ also gives you time to deal with other potential problems. Air way, shock, burns... Sorry for spelling mistakes. I'm Serbian.
@@corpsewaif the latest studies and TCCC guidelines show no side effects with TQs on 2 hours and minimal long term side effects up to 8 hours. You don't lose your leg like 8n the civil war.
Everyone is rushing to a tourniquet these days when the majority of the time they just need a pressure dressing. I seen plenty of them put on cause that's what people carry more. I would tell people who carry them to also carry a pressure dressing and take a class on how to use both. If there's no mass bleeding or squirting blood a dressing or pressure dressing is all that's needed.
We don't apply bandages to broken ribs in the UK, as it compresses them, while they are healing, restricting natural movement, during the breathing process, putting stress on lung expansion, so the ribs mend incorrectly.

That must be painful when u insert it inside the skin.
Usually shock helps to dull pain...

I love that you enlist the help of your son, he did a great job.
Wow, I never realized how multipurpose the Israeli bandages were. Great video SkinnyMedic!
I have been watching your videos over and over again to try and get a deeper understanding of the lessons you teach. Thank You!
Fine looking boy you got there; Always neat to see a kid helping out Dad.
Man, I seriously appreciate you sharing all this AND demonstrating it. This is Golden. I need to see what IFAK's you build.
Amazing demonstration of how to properly use this
I need a skinny medic in my bug out kit. what size backpack do you recommend 😂😂😂😂
Me too!
He's fabulous!
Ectomorph is a good size.
Older video I know but I watched it again and still learned something new. Thanks!

Appreciate that I don´t have to open T3 to see what´s new. Thank you so much

haha yes
Save for college to go into massive debt 😂
Awesome/Helpful channel!
Kind regards from the German Paramedics ;-)
No need to apologize for the opened package, most of us understand that it is a training unit..
I didn’t want to open my pack but always curious how it worked. Thanx. Very informative.

I'm glad I watched this video, I've got a few of those and never knew about the tourniquet option.
I just watched this video and enjoyed it.I am glad forthe new isreali bandage. I am gonna get me a couple of bandages. Thank you again

I keep one of these and a combat gauze, nested with 2 band aids in a sandwich bag as my complete ifak for light backpacking. ( Sub 14# bw)

This added some details to another video I watched about this bandage. Thanks!
Great instructional video , you do a good service to your countrymen . " and your little brother "
this channel is great!
Thank you!

GldenRetriever that's what I was wondering as well
He replied to a similar comment farther up saying that can be done, long as you make sure the wound packing worked
Why not leave the tourniquet on? Leave it for a doctor to remove

@@ScooterLee-mn8bn not true. Studies show no side effect if left on less than 2 hours. And minimal if less than 8.

mmix224 Skinny Medic Jr. reporting for duty!!!
I couldn't do it. Couldn't even play like that. 😭😭😭
As always I love your videos
This channel is so helpful! Thanks!
Hi, bro. I received the stuff that i bought from you. The skinny medic sticker is cool. Thanks.😁😁😁
Thank you!
Obviously the injured is hurting from the wound, what is the reaction to packing gauze in the wound? Digging in to find the artery, etc...?
Thanks for sharing your knowledge. Have you heard of using part of the package for a chest seals ?
What do you do if the patient is unconscious and can’t move his body to allow the unwrapping?
Skinny patient this time, too! 😀 Thanks for all your videos. Very useful information.
Great video. Assistant was great. Lucky I can't get mine to help in my CPR class
Momma Bear thanks you for the lesson!
Great video and great products!
Great training. Thank-you.
Great explanation of the bandage. Live the "mini" Skinny Medic too. Very cute kid..

invaluable info here. thanks.
Having no medical experience what so ever, if i only have a israeli bandage, can I use it as a tourniquet if the blood is bright?
I haven’t been able to get my wife and kids to get on board with these skills and they travel alone. Have any tips on how to get them interested?
