Watched this video about a year ago, and picked one up. A few nights ago I had to use it. My dog recently had 2 ribs and tumor removed, the wound was stitched up and about 10 inches long. They cut all the way into her diaphragm so it was pretty deep. For some reason, the stiches came undone a few days post op and the wound completely opened up. Within about 30 seconds there was blood everywhere. She was bleeding pretty heavily, more than I've seen irl before. I wanted to go to the vet asap but she was just bleeding too much, so i decided it was time to take it into my own hands. I started applying pressure obviously, and it soaked through quite a bit of material. I took this OLAES bandage on top of the gauze i had on there and wrapped it around her body to hold it in place while i got her in the car. Unfortunately i needed to end up taking it off in order to put more gauze on top, so i just held it in place myself while we drove. The big take away I got is that you need to pack as much stuff to absorb blood as you can into your kit. Also, I found I needed BIGGER/THICKER gauze pads. imagine working with a 10 inch incision and the part that's opened is larger than anything you have.... I improvised. Another thing, keep a towel or blanket in your car because it can be useful to catch any blood dripping or squirting and it'll prevent it from getting on your car. We used a blanket to have her lay down and load her in the car because lifting her wasn't a good option. We had a waterproof cover for the backseat already on there for dogs and the blood was pooling up on it pretty good. It may be worth thinking about that it may not be a human you'll be treating. I don't know what's out there for dogs, but this might be something to thing about if you have animals because they get hurt too.
I picked up a bunch of these while back to compliment my existing kit. They are quite large and do take up a lot of space but I do keep them in my main car trauma kit on top of my Israeli bandages. In my limited experience I would definitely say that these are better suited for joint injuries such as angles and shoulders and elbows. The stretch material will also act as an Ace bandage on top of the pressure to control the bleeding. I don't find these put as much pressure on the wound as he Israeli bandage does but still a very effective system.
You're right! OLAES is more versatile,while Israeli bandage may not be as versatile but can apply more pressure to control a serious trauma on arms,legs etc. OLAES can be used on the head or eye too and if you get the version with the extra gauze and extra nayloin membrane, it can also be used for burns, or cover a larger wounded area. I love the versatily of OLAES, but you can't have everything, so I also add an isreali bandage!!
I do a lot of driving and both of my kids are into extreme sports (downhill mountain biking and gymnastics). I was curious about this product and will definitely put one of each size in my car FAK. Your video was not overly complicated, but thorough. Thanks a million for your review/instructions.

practiced with this bandage after being introduced to it by fellow co worker. This bandage is outstanding, just with the options it contains within it. I still like the Israeli but I have put this bandage in all of my Ifaks.

Neither, upgrade to the Israeli T3 Bandage!! It is the upgraded version ths t incorporates some features from the Olaes but also some that even this doesn't have!!
Another benefit of the T3 over the standard Olaes is it isn't as bulky (but bulkier than the original) and it is narrower than the flat fold I believe).

Why do you not use BleedStop on your wounds to help control the blood flow? I use a tourniquet also. That is also another way to stop the blood flow. I don't understand why you don't use those two items along with a Isreal Bandage
Is the pressure cup broad enough to use as an eye cup?? Seems it's not any broader than a socket and as such would just poke someone in the eye...ALL of the eye.

Rob K yes a lot better than israeli. I’ve used it in Afghanistan and didn’t have problem! The plastic cup is actually for you to press on and see if a little blood pools under it. If it does, it’s means the bleed is still going! Great packing to use over hemostatic agent packing strip if you don’t have enough and need extra pressure!
hey mate! I'm looking at getting a stretcher to put I'm my bag. I want one that doesn't need poles and is more like a carry type then an actual stretcher. it's only to get the casualties out of the area . thanks
Gavin h what class are you looking for and where? There are plenty of stop the bleed classes around, I know of at least a couple in the Charlottesville area.
Nar or Olaes bandage? Both seem really good. I know you recommend both but which do you prefer?. I have about 3-4 olaes and never used them yet and was gonna replace them with nars. Idk what to do?
U1T1MATR1X the NAR version has no windlass to increase pressure nor any of the other features. Please check out SkinnyMedic's video on the upgraded T3 Israeli Bandage! I think it is better than ALL other options.

I know this is a bit of a strange question, but could you do a formal what you do if someone gets shot or stabbed without rule of law? I live in australia , what do i need in a super basic kit to give someone atleast a several hours. because you use a lot of products , this one looks ok too , i would love a just buy these 15-20 things and stick them in a box, as a motorcyclist in australia i would love a kit for that , im sure a gunshot kit would be good enough. I know you sort of cover most of it but i would love to see some , X happens you should do Y videos , I dont care if people tell you are doing the wrong thing , something is better than nothing.
GamersBar if you need to ask what you should have in your medkit I would suggest the first thing you should do is get some training. Just having a box of toys is not much good without the knowledge to use them properly. If you have the knowledge you can improvise in an emergency because you understand what you are trying to achieve.

I love the olaes but its so damn bulky lol i carry 2 blowout kits on me all the time. 1 has a 4 inch izzy for the bandage and 1 has an olaes. Im about to have 4 more kits with me in my bag during an upcoming trip to the unconstitutional state of Ny.
Sorry, I'm confused. I watched your video on when to use a tourniquet and when to pack a wound. If I understood that video correctly, legs get a tourniquet. But If I understood this video correctly, it says pack the leg wound. Would you please clarify? Thanks.

Instead of tearing the occlusive dressing you should consider using the packaging it came with. Nice thick plastic
This would prevent the need for carrying chest seals and gauze. Seems like a better fit for on-person EDC. I'll put my I.B. in the car.

Agreed. It is bizarrely marketed as an eye cup by the makers, but I don't see any way it should be used this way. Too small and rigid.

The Israeli doesn't have the occlusive seal.
You can use the packaging from the Israeli bandage. But I like this Olaes for the fact it has the gauze too. All in one is nice.

He has all sorts of videos on what to do in certain situations. Wound packing, when to use a tourniquet, where to put it etc.

Legs and arms get TQ. The shoulder's and hips wound pack because you can't get a TQ high enough.
