Morning sher, morning moom, morning server morning Sarah.😮😮😮😮😮 I'M from Indonesia,Gosh three bear monster who wants to eat chicken does America bear like to eat chicken
A good lock for your coop is one of those latches with holes for a padlock but instead you use a carabiner. Also, I would for sure hang netting above the coop. Birds like haws are really good in flying, spotting and killing through trees.
Used your design. We are super happy with it. A few mods…Texas, not as cold, we put in a wire mesh floor, spray to clean out, no hay. And an egg collector, slanted floor attached to the laying boxes. Thanks for all the camera coverage on your video!
Nice coop, My chickens I got to lock up at night and open in the morning , make s me get up and walk LOL So many things have changed in the 70 years I have had chickens
You should have a small solar panel of the roof of the chicken coup so you can keep the battery for the door charged and maybe get a water heater to keep their water from freezing in winter.
Electric current contracts muscles. Test electric fences with the BACK of your hand, (or a tester). By using the back of your hands/fingers, the shock will throw your fingers away from the current instead of grabbing and wrapping your hands around the wires.
Brilliant guys!! My wife and I are planning a homestead and we already have an urban chicken run nd have gone through two of the cheap coop kits from Murdocks and are done with those. This looks A+! Thanks a million from CO!!!
Thank you for posting this video. I've built this coop and it was a fun build process. In total it cost around $1000 to build. Overall it's a very sturdy coop.
Great set up. I have bear, cougar, coyote and all the rest including the hawks and eagles We have Livestock Guardian dogs. The electric fence won't stop the bears or thick coated dogs.
Nice work. Fairly cheap and easy to build. The lower side of your roof is at a very dangerous level. Recommendation: You may want to, using metal sheets, round the roof corners and put a small piece of foam on it. An injury to the face is far worse to deal with.
Interesting set up. Looks great and Very functional. I'm not much of a egg person, so don't raise chickens, but if I built a chicken coup I'd keep both sides of the roof above my head level because I'd end up some day stupidly whacking my head on the lower end. I'd build a A frame type of roof so I could gather eggs in peace away from wind driven rain and not have to stand in any snow...I'd build a 6' fence around the chicken area and utilize chicken netting over the top. Lastlly I'd definitely build the chicken boxes on a slope so the eggs would gently roll to the back for easy and clean collection. I still remember poopy eggs from the chickens my parents raised on the farm. :)
@@Earthalien89just a detailed blue print. And step by step for the most part. Just wish it had a list of all the materials you need. I ended up not even using them unfortunately. Found a premade one for a good price
If only that were true. I have a goose in my flock; yesterday I lost a duckling and gosling to a predator attack in the run. I have no idea what could've done it, but the necks were shredded and they were eviscerated.
Suggestion to use overhead netting protection from skilled birds of prey even owls as they will drop in inside and enter coop if you not use an auto closing door on coop
Woooa super super. Huge thnx for sharing this. Tough job to get things how they r now I assume. It's a model I'll aim to use here in rural Romania's Carpathian Mountains. ❤❤
Hawks and eagles will still be able to fly in and get to the chickens. Even full grown ones. Seen chicken runs in thicker wooded area and the birds still got in freaquently. Id honestly recommend a netting that can hang over the run in the trees. The birds have great eye sight and usually see the netting, but every great once in awhile, one may get caught in the netting and need rescuing.
As a falconer and chicken lover, this net idea is great. For safe removal of a bird of prey caught in the mesh, take care not to be “footed” during the rescue, their talons are lightning fast. First cover the bird’s head a towel or equivalent so they can’t see you, this will help calm them.
Salut. So are you saying when you started on the property you were relaxed or it was intense (in tents) ? I couldn't hep mesef. Thanks for the vid and update. You haven't said too much about Collin, I hope things are going well.
For winter heating if there is not many trees around paint sides black and fit glass airtight about 1/2" away ? Large eaves and shiny or white roof for cool in Summer.
Can you give more info on type of camera you pointed out that sends a notification? I'm assuming you have cell service where you are for the notifications to work?
I like ur coup, and ur auto door. I live in the mountains with high winds. That over hang, with the pitch of the roof wouldnt last one wind event up here.
I really like how reasonable and smart you are. Today that is a rarity, especially for Western people. For example, firstly, you realistically say that cats are predators and should be kept away from chickens. Second, instead of philosophizing, you realistically say that you should simply take breeds that live in colder conditions... Respect
great helpful video ! Thanks for your helpful tips,n it helps me to know the why not just the how. Question: Approx how many chickens would your coop as shown hold?
Compared to few years ago your Indonesian is already quite rusty, Pak. But it's still understandable. Saya setuju Pak Martin membuat lagi video tentang rumah Bapak. I can't forget your channel, you, Bu Julie Sarah and Seth because it was the only time that my name got mentioned in a published video which is one of your MAIL TIME (was it the very first MAIL TIME?). I was the one who sent you the KOPI AROMA. God bless you and your family, Pak Martin.
How about using the fake grass inside the coup instead of the saw dust? Inexpensive and it could easily be cleaned by pulling it completely out and just washing it off? What would be the drawbacks?
Your weather is similar to ours - are you not worried about the eggs freezing with the exterior nest box? I'm planning my coop for a little storage area attached and access the nesting box from there so it's a little better protected from the wind/snow/cold. This past winter we went 5 months without the temps getting out of the low 20s.
This is fantastic! Is it movable? I live in the Texas desert and the heat can get above 115 degrees. I hope there are heat tolerance chickens. The height, automatic door and feeder outside is a great idea. We have have javelinas, coyotes, badgers, bobcats and a whole lot of other animals including mice, rats, rabbits and reptiles like rattlesnakesss. Hopefully I can protect my chickens as soon as I build this. Thank you for this video. Keep them coming.
One good latch, one carabiner. Racoons are the only predator dextrous enough to unclip them, but they can't understand how they work. Simple, no locks, only cost a dollar. Done.
Haven't watched he entire video yet but I plan on using this design based on its simplicity. Just out of curiosity, what was your overall cost for materials?
Most people put tar paper or roofing paper on their floor to put their sawdust or savings on all they do just pull out out roll it up and then put in fresh makes it easier to clean
Hey if you want a FarmLite automatic chicken door ours are fully aluminum! We can send you the door and the solar setup for a complete off grid application! Our doors come with a safety sensor as well to protect your birds!
Hi Martin. I was raised a catholic and wasn’t really introduced to a bible. I want to purchase a bible , but there are so many versions that I’m not sure which version is considered to be the most accurate. Your assistance would be greatly appreciated.
This may be an odd question but does anyone who has used the poultry netting know if the smaller squares on the bottom are small enough that if mice tried to go through it they’d get a zap?
I would imagine keeping it that high helps keep down on the rodents as well. Chickens dont actually have a sphincter like mammals so they will poop in their sleep. They have no way to control it so dont get too frustrated if your still having a lot of poo in the coop. Miss you guys.
This is really a great looking and very useable coop. However, the plans (if you purchase them) are not very good unfortunately. You have to either be an engineer or (and I grew up building homes and built the home I live in now) you have to keep going back and forth looking at pictures to figure out dimensions. If the measurements were added to the current pictures in the plans I bought, it would go so much easier, especially for a first time project builder. A buy list, cut list etc. would really help. The coop is certainly buildable from the plans, I just think it could have been faster and smoother with more details/measurements given.
Here are our plans geni.us/ChickenCoopPans

Just bought your plans, was hoping it had a material list all the the boards I need. Kinda bummed it wasn’t on there.
Wait did they ever send you the materials list? I wanna buy the plans but that list is essential for me as a beginner!

The company that sent you the electric fencing also has a run cover for chickens.

My chicken run is open during the day so they can free range all I've ever caught in it are wild turkeys and 1 pronghorn antelope

You could almost let that out as a tiny home lol. Nice build!
Any update on the solar power set up.?
Just wondering what will you do in the winter? Won't the snow short out the fence?

Have considered bird netting to discourag flying predators?
Hi uncle Martin 👋
Salam dari Indonesia 🥰
My wife and I just moved onto some land in Barrhead county, been looking into building a coop in North Central Alberta
😁😁😁😁😁
I hadnt thought about closing off the nesting boxes to the young birds, great thought! 😂😅
Do you leave the vented area open all winter?
How often do you replace the bedding and how many birds do you keep?

So glad you posted this. I almost bought the plans.
Is there a materials list with the plans?
Even with the overhang at the top, with moderate rain and some wind in that direction its going to get sopping wet inside.

A good leason in grounding!
how will you keep their waterer from freezing in the winter?

How do you manage coop security in winter when the snow nullifies the electric fence?
A couple of years ago we had major issues with racoons!
@MartinJohnsonOffGridLiving Can two people carry this to move around the yard if needed?
The first line of the fence?

Security camera info please? My brother needs one like that, remote, solar, wifi connected.
Thanx!

HOW DO YOU DEAL WITH THE SNAKES?
I live in North Idaho, and I still don’t get why people here say “Acrossed” and not “Across”. It’s not a word! :-)
Why the extreme slope of the Roof ?

Martin, 1 guinea will keep hawks, eagle's, snakes, rats, wasps, etc.
You need protection from the air also from chicken hawks, eagles, and other birds of prey. You can buy a net to cover your chicken yard.
That's why he specifically stated they placed the chickens under a bunch of trees, hoping to avoid arial predators.
