Dwight Evans is so underrated. He always gets overlooked because he played with Yaz, Fisk, Rice, Lynn....etc....but he was such a pro in every phase of the game and deserves HOF consideration.
Dwight Evans was such an underrated player. Very clutch. Hit a game tying HR in ninth vs reds in 75'. Drove in 9 in this series. Definitely not the reason the rest of the team gagged, dewey!
Specifically Clemens was a playoff choker. He was your big arm but struggled early in his playoff career. Up 2-0 then 3-2. They should have put that one away...
Now that career DH Harold Baines has been elected to the baseball Hall of Fame I believe that a stronger case should be made that Dwight Evans should be elected to the Hall of Fame in the future.
@@GeorgeLuzbet That's a joke that Baines is in there, and Evans isn't. Not only was Evans a great RF while Baines was a DH, but Evans has more HR and Runs in 1000 fewer AB!
Some will disagree and I certainly respect that. But in my opinion Dwight Evans deserves more consideration for the hall of fame just for his defense alone. The writers have always voted. Maybe they shouldn't. They don't play the game.
In my opinion it is shocking that career DH Harold Baines has been elected to the Hall of Fame by the Veteran's Committee. This election should significantly bolster your case and mine that Dwight Evans deserves more consideration for the Hall of Fame. He was one of the best offensive players of the 1980s and his great defense is a bonus.
HaroldBaines as DH, Ozzie Smith 1st ballot for defense, it’s amazing how 8GG w a cannon for an arm and one of the top 5 players for a decade and he wasn’t on the ballot for 5 years. The veterans committee hasn’t even nominated him for consideration of vote, much less vote him in.
@@DMDvideo10 Now that career DH Harold Baines was just elected to the Hall of Fame a stronger case can be made that Dwight Evans should be elected to the Hall of Fame by the Veteran's Committee.
It's shocking that a full time DH like Harold Baines was elected to the baseball Hall of Fame. I think this significantly improves Dwight Evans chances of being elected to the Hall of Fame in the future.
I grew up watching and loving Evans as a player and I have to disagree with you. By far Ichiro is an even better player than Evans. Ichiro was an all around better hitter than Evans, better base runner, better fielder, and I'll say it an even better arm then Evans. The only thing Evans did better was hit home runs. And in an era of steroids Ichiro was a strictly no steroid guy.
@@writerconsidered if you believe that a New York Yankee didn’t do steroids you’re fooling yourself. No one had an arm like Evans, EVER! He was the most feared outfielder in baseball when he played.
@@ctbadcop15 Not A New York Yankee. I only said Ichiro. It's sad you seem so close minded. If you opened it just a little you could watch all kinds of clips of him on here. You will see a different kind of player. He has the spirit of Ty Cobb in him. You would see an arm that Evans would envy. "Ichiro" copy/paste go.
I caught this ball on one hop off my knee! At the time, I was delivering hot coffee and hot chocolate to the centerfield TV cameramen when the ball bounced off the tent top, and on one hop, it hit me in the knee. I scooped it up exactly when some guy slid into my leg head-first, knocking the hot beverages all over the place while bruising my leg. I still have the ball. It was signed by Dwight Evans right before game 6 of the World Series that year, and about 15 years later, Dwight Gooden signed it. Gooden just stared at the ball for about a minute in a memorable moment. Before signing it, he turned to his wife at the time sitting next to him, and said to her, "Wow, I never thought that I would get this one back; it was a bomb." I enjoy owning this part of World Series history.
Dewey was great, and it was amazing how much he owned Yankee pitcher Dave Righetti. I mean, he made a loser out of him FOUR times as a reliever, and enjoyed a .624 batting average against him, as well as 14 RBIs.
As great was Dewey was throughout his career, he certainly didn't get a hit against Dave Righetti on July 4, 1983, the date of Righetti's no-hitter against the Red Sox.
My second favorite player of all time after Jim Rice Dewey's hit some bombs during his career underrated player good hitter great fielder awesome it should be in the Hall of Fame
I had just moved to New England 6 months prior, so I was there for all those yrs of suffering but I got a good taste of it until 04. Pardon the reference but in 04 it was like the popping of a giant zit .
This man could hit some bombs if that was in Fenway it probably be off the wall for a single so the green monster did take home runs away from certain place Dwight Evans in Jim Rice the green monster stole a lot of home runs away at least a hundred and twenty in both of their careers underrated player Dwight Evans
Remember that one, graduated HS few months earlier, had that game on a tv that a coworker brought in at a sandwich shop I was working at, as somebody who played first base growing up I could of made that play. Huge choke, we couldn't believe our eyes. 55 now where does the time go 😮

Sox down 6-3 in the top of the 8th in Game 7 and Evans drove in 2 runs to inch the Sox closer. He never gave up

I’m a yankee fan I must admit Dewey was a great player
Dwight vs. Dwight.
My favorite player on the red Sox alltime dwight evans
Dwight Evans looks like he could've known Wyatt Earp.
Dwight Evans = BADASS
Hall of Famer... His numbers are better than half the outfielders in the HOF. 8 Gold Gloves too...

The Tom Selleck of baseball
The best right fielder to ever play the game!

Great player. Dewey Evans belongs in the HOF.
some foreshadowing to waht would happen in '88

Had a very good arm if my memory is correct.
Red Sox should have won the 86 series.

This where I started to get concerned about Doc as a pitcher. He started to tip his pitches.

A little roller along first, behind the bag, it gets by Buckner, in comes Knight and the Mets win it!!!
And that's been it for the Mets ever since.
