  • @FixitwithFowler demonstrates how to stop that annoying squeak that comes from your noisy floorboards. Do this before laying new underlay and carpet for a squeak free floor. No more noisy floorboards!

    Identify the area or areas of the noisy floorboards that squeak or make a noise and mark each area of the squeaky floorboards, i have opted to use post it notes for ease!
    After time the movement in the wood causes the floorboards nails to become loose so the easiest thing to do is knock the nails back in so they are just below the top of the floorboards (a center punch makes this easy).
    If this doesn't work then you need additional fixings in the floorboards, the best method is to add screws to each floorboard. Test the floor boards again to check for squeaks or creaks.

Now I'm off to check you vid on how to stop the creaking stairs 🏃🏾‍♀️ 🏃🏾‍♀️ 🏃🏾‍♀️ 😊

    I wish i had someone like that stopping my bathroom floor creaking instead of some clown who just drilled a few screws in on one part of the floor put a sub floor down without checking the other side first.One side doesnt creak the other side does.Brilliant.

    Really helpful video - thanks. Could you explain why screws are better than simply adding additional nails? Thanks

    • @FixitwithFowler
      @FixitwithFowler  Рік тому +2

      Hi, over time the timber floor boards move and warp, this action can actually partially pull the nail out (as seen early on in the video). If you use screws then this can't happen!

    Thanks for the videos, very helpful. Do you think Wood glue works better then watered down PVA ? Ive seen other videos use the PVA method on floorboards. But you seem to use PVA. Im sure you have tried both methods?

    • @FixitwithFowler
      @FixitwithFowler  8 місяців тому +2

      Hi, neat wood glue is far stronger than watered down pva or just pva glue. Once the wood glue is cured, it becomes stronger than the wood itself. Hope that helps you!

    • @FixitwithFowler

    Thanks for this! Do I get a countersunk screw that is threaded the whole way or not?
    I tried doing what you told me with srews that are only 2/3 threaded and it doesn't solve the problem

    • @FixitwithFowler
      @FixitwithFowler  Рік тому +1

      Hi, for the squeaky floorboards, i would use screws that are only 2/3 threaded. The reason for this is that it allows the floorboards to be pulled tight to the joists, whereas threaded screws can leave a slight gap between the joist and the floorboards. If you pilot the boards, you may find the threaded scres do the job. It's a bit of trial and error, dont forget to do the boards next to it as well.
