Hey guys! Those caterpillars are forest tent caterpillars, also called army worms. Some years they do a number on the forest, eat almost all the leaves in an area. Sometimes sounds like it is raining as they are pooping!
Those caterpillars maybe tent caterpillars, they are not the nice kind. They typically eat the foliage on the trees and create a mess whilst walking thru them but of course you are not hiking so those shouldn't be an issue.
Portaaaaage is the way it is pronounced in French. English speaking Canadians have adopted the French pronunciation, for obvious reasons. Taters pronunciation is also perfectly fine, just another anglicized version of portage. PoTAYto, PoTAHto.

It’s held up reasonably well so far though it is made of plastic and I worry about the long term. Just has to survive to Saint Louis though. There’s one from Canada I really liked the look of but we couldn’t justify $350 to import it
Great video, been watching all of them! On the portage', If you put the Heavy back pack in the back of the boat instead of carrying it. It might even out the weight distribution.

The wheels seemed to work very well. I have a set but the tires are large balloon type for use on sand beaches. Be careful with the Permethrin. When its still wet, it can make you sick especially if you inhale it. I find that the rating on the bottle is optimistic. I wet in accordance with the instructions and only cover 5 pieces of clothing not 5 outfits. I hope that it works for you. I understand Tater's dilemma. We have a blue bird house with babies in it. There is a medium size hawk that is trying to get the parents. We scare the hawk but want it to do well just with the mice, chipmunks, english sparrows and starlings. I think that it is the same hawk that took my baby bunny buddy last year. Good Luck, Rick

When you were at the boat ramp waiting on Taters, there was a yellow warbler right next to you. Just sayin. And there are also minks in river a and they’re the cutest of them all.
Be careful on donating blood. For many years I was a regular blood donor. Found out later all those big needles scarred up my veins and makes it challenge for the vampires to find a view to do blood draws or try and start an IV. Last two times I had to get an IV it took abut 12 tries each time by four different techs to get the IV started
Seems like a lot less mosquitoes on the outside of the tent. I use permethrin on my outside clothes here in tickland Virginia. I think it works pretty good.

I know you have already finished this trip, so advice at this point is, well,pointless, but here goes any way. Sulfur tablets, have no taste, but keep mosquitoes away and keep ticks from biting you. It charges the way your sweat smell to mosquitoes and the way your blood tastes to ticks.
Why not put the wheels closer to the center of gravity so you don't have to hold as much weight? Ps see if you can get your body to do the morning bathroom ritual closer to midday, the skeeters arent as bad then
I like having it a bit off center so I know which end will drop when I let go. There’s barely any weight to hold considering this boat is so light. My body cooperating on things like scheduling cat holes would be nice but I tend to be exceedingly regular each day
