Looks nice! Cabbage rolls are good and tasty food. It is wonderfull how this dish is done in a little bit differently from country to country. Even here in Finland we cook them, but in the owen. We do not use so much liquids, but let them cook in their own juices in the owen in a pot with the lid on. We also cook the ingredients before rolling. I used to live in Sweden and they too make cabbage rolls. Thank you for this.
So glad I found your channel! I've been looking everywhere for a stuffed cabbage recipe that makes sense, yours was so easy to understand and they look delicious! Will be making these very soon 😊
TY sweet Dimitroula mou! I'll try & make this soon. This is quite interesting cabbage rolls in a tomato sauce since I'm always getting canned tomato sauce from my pantry all the time
I did it ! Totally mess it up the first time but it finished as a soup, great one btw, anyway I did the vegan version of it, with beyond meat mince and it's reallt good ! Thank you
Those are cabbage rolls.... tomato sauce, but I will try the white ones, too. In Romania they are called sarmale, but the Romanians tend to make them with sauerkraut, although I make them here in the US with boiled cabbage, like you do. I also do the vegan version with just rice, sauteed onions and garlic, mushrooms, etc. I always used tomato sauce. I will do the rice cabbage rolls with lemon. The Romanians make the stuffed grape leaves, too.... love them.
Originally from Schuylkill County, PA where we call this Halupki. A lot of Slovak, Polish, Rusyn, and Ukrainian immigrants (and descendants) so some of these individual languages have been comined over the generations. 💗
Giassas Dimitra! In Germany they are called Kohlrouladen, which is very similar to your recipe, but I think it's common to add bacon instead of rice, although I'm sure regional differences are plenty 😄 I will definitely try your recipe cause it seemed so easy. I tried to make some cabbage rolls a while ago and it was such a mess, wrapping them with cord and whatnot 😂
I usually make them in a tomato sweet and sour sauce. I like yours. I am familiar with the lemony Greek version. I will watch that video too and try. Thanks.
Re: freezing a batch. Do you still do the "bring to boil" step before freezing? If so, then, do you freeze cabbage and liquid all together or separate the cabbage from the sauce? Video was not real clear on that and I do want to do it right, as I like the idea of freezing a batch. Thank you.
Excellent 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻,sweetie I have a tip for get rid off the cabbage smells ,actually my husband told me use sauerkraut cabbage we bought them from super store (only place around my area I could find)they’re cheap like $0.55 per pound, apparently I don’t need to boil the raw cabbage 😉the only problem I have that is every time I make sauerkraut roll I forget make the tomato sauce 😓😓therefore my husband complains all the time 😓....lol
OK wait, I just heard the first part about freezing the cabbage. When it thaws out the leaves come apart, but are they soft enough after thawing to be able to roll over the filling? Do you have to boil the leaves after? This is so interesting I have a cabbage in my fridge and I’m dreading doing it because it’s so big to fit in a pot! 🤦♀️
Looks amazing, I love stuffed cabbage, I'm going to try making it your way.

I love it too and it's a great time of the year to make it :)
Pls can you show instant pot version. I've seen IP cabbage rolls in lemon sauce
Yum 😋, yum 😋 definitely cooking this TFS
Hope you enjoy!
Mmm, awesome! In Romania we have,, sarmale,,.
They're named similarly in northern Greece, sarmades when they're regular size, sarmadakia when they're half size
What can you serve it with? Bread etc?
Bread, a salad and it’s a delicious meal.
Can we only boil it to cook? I mean, excluding baking process
Yes, bring it to a boil then reduce the heat to a simmer and let it cook until soft and tender. About 2 hours on the stovetop :)

Exactly! Once the leaves thaw they are soft enough to roll. No boiling necessary 🎉
Dimitra's Dishes thank you.
