After watching this entire series 4 times and countless clips on UA-cam I still am stirred by scenes like this and so many others from Lost. Damn this is an incredible television show.
I just realized part of the reason Desmond was fired from being a monk was because Eloise Hawking knew the head monk (known from the picture of the two of them on the desk). And Eloise made sure he was fired so Desmond would go to the Island. She knew about Desmond from Faraday's journal which was left behind in the 1970's when Eloise shot Daniel.
Penny and Desmond are THE beating heart of Lost. Their portrayals are so authentic it transports me to a place where my own moments in love live still.
I love this show so much! Desmond and Penny are my favorite couple in the show. I said if I ever had a daughter I'll call her Penelope. I had my sweet Penelope "Penny" in 2015.
I having been watching Lost on Netflex (I have all 6th seasons on DVD), and I thought Jack and Kate were my favorite couple, I was wrong. Desmond and Penny are so beautiful! These two actors have Great chemistry!

His smile and how focused his face turns right after Penny introduces herself as if he was unknowingly waiting for her to do so. Then the way he says her name! I cri evrytiem, so perfect! I love Penny & Desmond!!!

Yeah, but think of it this way--these two actors shared probably a total of 3 hours of screentime in the entire 6 seasons of the series, and they struck a chord that made them one of of the greatest couples in American TV history. That is special.
Fun fact: Both actors are half-british half-latinos Sonya Wlager (aka Penny) is Argentinian-English Henry Ian Cusick (aka Desmond) is Peruvian-Scottish ....and they're both fluent in Spanish

He really loves her though! - What's to love about Penny? - Idk, she's a girl I guess. - That should be enough to have every one go nuts about this character.

I'm not really a romantic, but the whole Desmond / Penny storyline in Lost opened up my heart a bit.
