I think many of us can relate to that side of her and have experienced our feelings being overlooked because we are less freely expressive/open than our peers, so watching it on TV being done to someone and it being acknowledged def can feel validating and hits close to home. ❤

As a black young woman, it is exceptionally rare, infuriatingly rare, that any positive images of black young women like myself are seen in mainstream media. Unapologetically feminine, god fearing, strong, kind, sexy, witty, beautiful, intelligent, wise, just rare in every way but actually I see it so often in black women that I know personally. I appreciate her and, you Violet, for allowing her to go deeper into her life story and character.

Exactly! I didn't understand why her and Serena keep acting like they are less than Leah, when they aren't. They were so genuine and extremely likeable
@@thealchemist333 right I know the rest of the islanders had their moments that made them stars and that resonated with some viewers/helped build fandoms, but JaNa was CONSISTENTLY a moment throughout the series. There was no "breakout" moment or scene needed. She was a steady star from start to finish. Where it took some viewers time to warm up or give star treatment to the islanders that keep getting the show named after them, she never needed that.
I also need her to know that the only reason she was in the bottom that one time was because people thought she would be safe. Everyone already loved her, so we all thought she'd be in the clear. People worried that Serena would be vulnerable, so they overcompensated with the votes and I'm guessing the votes split. & if that's not the case, it's simply bc people didn't like Hakeem. JaNa should've never been there. I hate if that distorted her view of how viewers saw her. We were always rooting for her and everyone was shocked that she was in the bottom.
@@meccapcd I think it was the authenticity of both her and Serena for me. They both were consistently themselves and weren't faking a relationship to stay in the game. Serena's moment became a breakout moment, because it was authentic and she didn't try to be politically correct or please the people. It was an honest reaction and people could relate to her I can never respect how Leah strategically went for Connor when Rob didn't want her. She knew she didn't like him and even told Janae that she was going to steal him to "make Rob jealous" (didn't work) But her going after Janae's connection to save herself after she spoke about how much Janae and Serena comforted her many nights when she kept crying over Rob. Then she puts Janae in a vulnerable position while she sat up there with that fake relationship knowing she didn't even like Connor.... smdh I know the girls forgave her, but it doesn't change who she showed herself to be for me
This is what an *interview™* looks like. Simple but insightful and thoughtful questions, comfort and ease between the guest and host. And very clear intelligence on the host's specific questions and commentary and Jana's answers. I'd say we learned far more about Jana in 40 short minutes than we did watching her 5 days a week for an entire summer+plus the dozen interviews she's done since the show ended. LOOOVED THIS!
Violet, you should be so very proud of yourself, your approach to this interview was so refreshing. I love how you led the interview by allowing JaNa to convey what she did not want to talk about anymore and what she felt like she wanted to talk about more.
