@@felixjohnsens3201 They let it be for now. There get to the starport you need to cross really long and well defended bridges which is not worth it. Also the Vraksians cant use the starport anyway as the planet is blockaded so its not a big deal.

@@johnkonig865 Then send in a thousand more.
@@techypriest7523 Reminds me of a joke...
A russian column is trekking through the woods. Suddenly, they hear someone shouting over the nearby hill:
"One Finnish soldier is worth ten Russians!"
Annoyed to be distracted by such a lousy taunt, the Russian commander orders ten soldiers to climb the hill and silence the Finnish. They go, guns blaze and grenades detonate and soon enough the voice comes again from behind the hill:
"One Finnish soldier is worth a hundred Russians!"
Deeply ashamed now, the commander promptly tells a hundred soldiers to storm the hill. Explosions, gunfires and screams...
"One Finnish soldier is worth a thousand Russians!"
Enraged now by his failure, the Russian commander orders a thousand of his men to bury the enemy underneath their corpses. It's a massacre: waves after waves of men rush into the gunfire behind the hill, never to be seen again. After a while, heavy silence starts to fall, and a lone man appears above the hill.
"Wait comrades, it's me! I managed to escape... It's a trap! There are two Finnish soldiers behind the hill!"

Despite reading the entire wiki page of the battle of vraks and knowing whats gonna happen. Im still shocked by whats happening and on the edge of my seat because the quality is phenomenal
Watching the "guidance" of not letting it happen again, kiddo, filtering down the echelons is a bittersweet treat. That's how it goes from top to bottom, typically being exaggerated to such an extent that by the time what would be something along the lines of an "oh well, that sucks" ends up being delivered to the line units as do or die.
Yes lol. Glad you catched that one
Im so excited to watch this. Im on my toes every minute, this is better than any action movie! ❤️🔥

So fucking good.
I find it so interesting how the Krieg, vaunted specialist commandos and siegmasters with no fear, were wasted so effectively on Vraks: If you have an army who does not care for their own lives and have total faith in their commanders, idiots like Zeulke in charge can be an unimaginative and strategically ignorant as they want without ever being reprimanded or complained to by the Krieg Colonels, who simply are happy to let their men and themselves march into the meatgrinder, so long as the job is eventually done, for the Emprah.

Great vid. It brings back fond memories when GW wasn't the devil and 40k was my only game. All those nights reading the Imperial Armors. Awesome.
That said are there some mistakes or am I illinformed:
17min - 'Well protected by their flak armor' - Don't grenadiers wear carapace armor? - I know it's a nitpick.
Oh shoot, you're right. Thanks for pointing that out, in the next video's I'll make sure the correct armor is used.
To bad we don't have the death korps of krieg
GW isn't the devil. WOTC is the devil. GW is a demon.
I have been thinking about the unit symbol for the astartes. Because, while really pretty, the official astartes logo kinda clashes with the minimalist guard unit symbols.
You could just symbolize them with the letters "SM", for Space Marines, just like special forces are symolized by SF.
Then you could, by combining symbols differentiate between mounted SM and infantry SM .
Just a thought.
makes sense. Thanks for sharing!
At that moment when the video said "cannons could be destroyed, or worse... captured" I had a picture in my head from Home Alone with hands slapped to face and wearing a dead corps uniform. :-D
Was there a major munitions factory in the citadel? You would think that in a many year battle with millions of defenders that they would run out of ammo really quickly. The Imperials can always resupply by space, but the Vraks have to be able to produce ammo in staggering quantities which means vast gigantic amounts of skilled workers and raw materials that have to constantly flow into the factories.
Yes they do
Its an arsenal world, so they should have copious even stupid amounts of ammunition, weapons and even knives for a prolonged siege. The scale of war in 40k is absolutely fucked.
This reminds me of the channel, the operations room, and I am here for it! Please do this for as much of the WH40K lore as possible, I'm freaking in love with it!
Decimation is always a weird word when told in narrative. In some places it means 1 out of 10 are dead. In other places it means only 1 in 10 survived. I always laugh when I hear the word actually used, "almost" never knowing which definition the author is intending. Thusly I enjoy when more context is available. Bravo.
Ah the exploits of Lord Arkos, such a shame to his fate but he served his purpose for the great plan
His dumbass didn't retreat when he should have bailed. That is on him alone.

When the Hydra raises its heads, things tend to become terrifying for its enemies.
I wonder how much killing traitor Astartes counts for the guard. I´d probably call killing a single one of these a great victory and hunting them with heavy artillery and tanks, whenever possible (yes Alpha Legion, it´s probably a trap if you can see them) would be a priority only topped by getting through the line itself.

Vraksian counteroffensive from Hub Zone 1 and especially Krieg retaking of a ground lost through an year long skirmish seem like it deserves its own book. Especially how Vraks counter-offensive had pushed Vraksians out of their ad hoc defenses in the north or how they had leveled entire hab zone with artillery fire. I mean, that is A LOT of artillery shells. It must been one hell of defensive from Vraksians. I would love to know more about it, but I doubt that book author properly covered those events.
I'm not sure if original material had covered events in such a detail as it seems to be general problem with a story. A proper story of this magnitude is so damn long that author just forgets certain things like third defensive line in the North not being broken, etc.

Now silently the host of Deathrider moved forward into Mora Field pouring in slowly but steadily.
After a while the Captain Theo led his men away somewhat eastward, to come between the fires and the outer fields. Still they were unchallenged, and still Captain Theo gave no signal. A smell of burning was in the air and a very shadow of death. Their equines were uneasy. But the Captain sat upon Styx, motionless, gazing upon the agony of the 19 Regiments, as if stricken suddenly by anguish, or by dread. He seemed to shrink down, cowed by age. They were too late! Too late was worse than never!
Then suddenly every Krieg's men felt it at last, beyond doubt: a change.
"Hans take 2 squad to the left flank"
"Franz, follow the Korps banner down the center"
"Strum take your squad and flank those Vraksian armor when they fire at our tank"
Captain Theo sprang suddenly. Tall and proud he seemed again; and rising in his stirrups he cried in a loud voice, more clear than any there had ever heard a mortal man achieve before:
"Arise, Arise, Deathriders! Spears shall be broken! Armors shall be splintered! A sword day, a red day, ere the sun rises!"
With that he seized a great horn from Gunther his banner-bearer, and he blew such a blast upon it that it burst asunder. And straightway all the horns in the host were lifted up in music, and the blowing of the horns of Rohan in that hour was like a storm upon the plain and a thunder in the mountains.
"Ride now! Ride now! Ride! Ride for Ruin, and the worlds ending! Death! "
"Death!"
"Death!"
"For Krieg Und Kaiser!"
Suddenly the Captain Theo cried to Styx and the horse sprang away. Behind him his banner blew in the wind, white horse upon a field of mud, but he outpaced it. After him thundered the noble Deathriders of Krieg, but he was ever before them.Franz rode there, the white horsetail on his helm floating in his speed, and the front of the first squad roared like a breaker foaming to the shore, but Theo could not be overtaken. Fey he seemed, or the battle-fury of his fathers ran like new fire in his veins, and he was borne up on Styx like a Primarch of white scar, even as the Khan in the battle of the Terra when the Imperium was young. His mask shone like Halo of the Sun. For morning came, morning and a wind from the wasteland; and the darkness was removed, and the hosts of Vrak wailed, and terror took them, and they fled, and died, and the hoofs of wrath rode over them. And then all the host of Krieg burst into song, and they sang as they slew, for the joy of battle was on them, and the sound of their singing that was fair and terrible came over the field.
I cried a little.
Where's that from? Is it a novel?

As to how the alpha legion managed to slip through the blockade there are several possibilities the simplest and most likely is that they were already on planet before the blockade , or that this alpha legion element retained pre heresy stealth equipment , or magic
They shipped themselves as canned food for the Kriegers. Of course, the tricky part was crowbarring the crates open from the inside...
I suspect they had traitors amongst the loyalist fleet that blockaded the world. You don't slip in otherwise, there aren't stealth ships in 40k to my knowledge thank fuck.
I love the way you tell the story and await the next instalment of this series
Zuehlke: "I don't understand..."
That's the problem, you dolt. The enemy isn't going to do what you want. If only he could have been sent to a penal regiment... or, better yet, volunteered for a Krieg training exercise.
Nah, he was doing his job. He was there to handle long-distance logistics, keep the supplies and reinforcements flowing and twist the arms of a lot of munitorum and administratum officials, and he did that perfectly well. He was never expected to do any more than that.

what was that song being played around 11:30 onwards?
Wait, wait, pardon me, but "communication lines were severed" WTF? It's the 41st Millenium and the imperium is still using telephone-type communication lol
Also, it's interesting to note how in many ways the Krieg doctrine backfired on the siege army in many ways, whilst they are unmatched in positional, attritional warfare, once the fight became a mobile/combined arms type engagement, the kreig regiments seemed quite unprepared for this type of fight.
@@collinrheaume1825 yup, they not the most flexible. And they continually underestimate the Vraksian abilities as well.
Regarding your earlier comment, the way I reconcile it is just to consider it in terms of economic. Yes the Imperium has very advanced communications, but they're not going to equip every regiment with the best of the best because it would be too expensive and wasteful. That's why often you will find troops having suboptimal equipment, as long as it works "most of the time" its good enough when it comes to an organisation as large and overstretched as the Imperium.
@@Janovich Makes a lot of sense in retrospect, thank you for clarifying! Outstanding work as always!
It really depends on the regiment, too. An exceptionally well-equipped Guard formation like the Valhallan 597th has access to short-range comm headsets for all officers and long-range vox systems assigned at the platoon level, both because they're meant to be a highly mobile force (they're a fully mechanized regiment) and because they got extra supplies for a while thanks to a bureaucratic fuckup.
A typical Valhallan _shock_ regiment gets about the same stuff as soviet infantry ca. 1943.
A Krieg line regiment...gets WW1 landline field telephones.
@@GaldirEonai interesting, I guess it makes sense considering krieg regiments are supposed to specialize in siege/trench warfare so mobile communication systems are not a huge priority when your unit is fighting in the same location for years at a time
I bet the Kriegsmen didn’t expect the Alpha Legion 😎
Who?
Nobody does
I bet that brief moment of shock was replaced with excitement.
“Finally an opponent that requires dozens of us to take down! Fix your bayonets, sharpen your shovels, and prep the melta charges!”
You know, if I get the right people, I might be able to do something like this series for the Second war of Armageddon.
That is got to be the worst thing for a guard commander to hear. They have space Marines.
awesome thx dude
great series. How many soldiers are in a typical Krieg-Regiment?
25000 approx
@@Janovich only 25k? so lets calculate 4 line corps with 4 regiments each. 16 x25.000 men = 400.000 for the whole 88th siege army invasion force? (lets add 100k tank and artillery personnel so we have 500k men) No wonder that they lost against millions of defenders :) I think they are more like ten times the size, eg. 250.000 per regiment, this would make more sense. But even then its difficult to believe that the IG would start a siege without at least a 3:1 ratio. So when the estimation is 2 Million defenders, the siege army should have at east 6 Million soldiers to be able to conduct a proper siege. Which leads to a size of 350k-400k men in each of the 16 regiments and 1.5 Mio. men in a single Line-Korps.
Finally its there
Guys....I dont know my chapters very well but I think we got jumped by Ultramarines!
Nice vid
Krieg retreat? How is that possible? Aren't they unbreakable?
I never relized how freaking far Zhulke was from Vraks, how do you run a war from a separate subsecter?
High Command is more in charge of Modus Operandi, Doctrine and General Battle Plan. The details of how these three are carried out are left to the kriegsmen generals on the planet, so Zhulke is doing exactly what he needs to do, procure more resources and make sure the generals follow the plan.
Zuehlke was chosen specifically because his primary skills were in managing long-distance logistics and wrangling munitorum bureaucracy. He was exactly the right man for the war they were expecting to fight, and when the war ceased to be something Zuehlke could be expected to handle, well...you'll have to watch future episodes.
Be an Imperial officer
Don't worry steiners counter attack will fix this.
