You've really nailed the cottage garden style. I see so many videos where it looks like they bought a bunch of potted perennials from the big box store, plopped them down in the ground and called that a cottage garden. Again, you've nailed the cottage style. Yours looks accidental. It looks magnificently mixed and blended without being too "matchy matchy." Love it! You have a good eye. It's truly a work of art.
I must confess, this is a result of letting nature reseed for me and being happy with the result. But I embrace it and enjoy the effect when you let flower grow where they choose too and they thrive.
Yes, some years I can't even walk in my garden in midday they are so thick and other years I wonder where they are at. When the ivy on the trees next door are blooming they are so thick in that tree that it seems like the entire tree is buzzing with honey bees.
Wow! What a beautiful garden! I just found you and I’m watching this in February. It’s food for my soul. I also love Heirloom roses and have ordered roses from them. They perform beautifully for me. Thank you for sharing your beautiful garden and for all your hard work. I’m getting inspired for spring!
Absolutely beautiful, look at all that color! This was very inspiring i hope my yard looks like this one day. I know it didn't happen over night. You've done an amazing job, cottage gardens are my favorite! I love the wash tubs and barrels with the roses in them. The trees and landscape around you is beautiful and peaceful!
Thank you! The trees all around are gorgeous but they also are what can make my space a challenge. But we all have garden challenges of some sort so making the best of them is key for any gardener! I have been moving to more containers as the gophers have been such a problem for me the past few years.
Isn't it such a wonderful plant. It spreads easily but is not hard to keep in check. I let it fill in areas and I just pull it up where I don't want it.
Stunning! I just love your approach and attitude towards gardening. Forgive me if I missed it, but what is that beautiful apricot colored flower at 3:42. Thank you
Hi, that is my Happy Chappy groundcover rose. The color changes as the flowers fade so it always has an array of peachy colors on it, plus if just blooms and blooms all summer! Sorry my video seems so blurry!
Have you tries castors oil and dish soap? You mix it with water. Just research it. I have used red peppers/seasoning and seeds from them to sprinkle in and around my pots to keep squirrels 🐿 out. I think some liked it though😂
Yes, but I have but I think I was not consistent enough and I was worried about it disrupting the soil microbes. I have not been able to find any information on that at all. A friend of mine has been using the castor oil solution much more consistently this year and he says it is working for him. So I may need to just bite the bullet and rebuild the soil microbes after I chase away the gophers.
@@FlowerPatchFarmhouse yes, you may have to. But I was just 🤔 thinking….With using black and red pepper it deters not only bad insects but I’m sure all and I definitely want bees and my butterflies so I’m not going to use them. I might isolate my oregano and use the pepper on it.
I am in Zone 8 a but more importantly are my local conditions. Zoning is only a fraction of the equation. See this video for more information: ua-cam.com/video/aPBOapTBJIQ/v-deo.html
This is a very busy cottage garden. So charming. This is exactly what I’m going for. How long did it take you to create this? I’m just starting but my flowers have really started to fill out and hide the pots. I love whimsical! Beautiful garden!!
If you have flowers that really love it where you are then it should only take a couple years to get the fullness. The key is growing things that love it so much they come back, whether they are perennials or annuals that reseed themselves abundantly! I am always testing new ones I may wish to include but the tried and true always have a place in my garden like the Black Eyed Susans and Daisies, they plant themselves for me!
@@FlowerPatchFarmhouse thank you. That’s what I need to learn, which are reseeding, or come back each year… I’ve got a lot to learn yet. I love both the black eyed Susans and daisies. I couldn’t find them so I got tickseed I believe it is. They are really blooming well.
@@heartofdixieprepping4797 Tickseed also known as Coreopsis is a wonderful reseeder and as long as you deadhead will keep blooming through the summer. I have some too but it isn't blooming yet.
A breathtaking garden. I live in Miami, and miss the flowers, i use to grow. Do you know if your kind of flowers would survive in south Florida. I love you can't plant all year, but it is hard sacrificing cottage garden flowers.
Some may but I am not sure which ones. Many do enjoy the cold overwinter to perform best and since I live in the mountains I do aim for putting those type into my gardens. But there are tropicals that you can grow that I would love to have but there is no way I could grow them unless I put in a heated greenhouse. So I do know what you are talking about missing certain flowers and plants.
I have Shasta Daisies and the fluffy one is called Crazy Daisy. They grow so tall since they need to reach for the sun, we get a lot of shade before the sun is high in the sky. We are surrounded by tall evergreens that cast a lot of shade. I amend my soil with compost each year. I do you a liquid organic feed called Agrothrive in my pots and on my roses.
What do you fertilizer your petunias with and how often? I can't get mine to germinate or bloom, would love to grow from seeds. Never heard of climbing petunia. Wonderful variety of flowers.🥰
I love the vintage petunias for their beautiful scent as well. So great. If you look in the description box there is a link to the exact organic liquid fertilizer I use. I really have had great success with it on many of my plants including roses!
I have some in 5 gallon pots and the resin barrel planters are 25 inches and hold 2 roses. The wood barrels are half wine barrels and I plant up to 3 roses in them.
No, they don't seem to cause any harm to the flowers around them. I will share more on that in my next Secret Garden tour as some are growing back there right now.
The peach pink one is Crown Princess Margareta and the Red in the background is an old, old rose from my grandparents farm. My grandmother claimed it was Blaze.
Love the garden. True clttage garden. Most of the so call cottage gardens on youtube are formal gardens not true cottage gardens like yours. Your garde. Looks like it planted itself, not designed.

I'm amazed that you know all the names! Your garden is stunning.
Thank you, I do tend to forget some names now and again but I just go look them up and relearn them. 🙂
Gorgeous garden!
Thank you! I do get my greatest joy in the garden.
Your garden is exceptionally lovely, something for me to aspire to.
You can do it!
Whenever someone says there aren't any bees anymore, I say, "That's because they're all at my place." 😁

I’ve never tried larkspur, I’ll have to look up the conditions it needs. Wonderful garden tour.
The hummingbirds just love the larkspur here and I enjoy how easily it reseeds itself to return each year with no effort on my part.
Beautiful garden.

is that blanket flower next to the daises around the 1:04 mark? thanks
yes, those are Gaillardia aka Blanket Flower
Try putting juicy fruit gum in the gopher holes.
Thank you, I have tried that one but it can't hurt to try again.
Meraviglioso giardino! come si chiama la rosa rampicante al minuto 12:25? grazie
