I’ve watched lots of “Cottage Garden” videos and this is by far the most helpful 💕I’ve always kept my garden neat and tidy but longed for this style of garden. This years I’m going for it 🥰 and your tips have helped so much. Thank You ❣️ I have subscribed and liked and now I’m going to get a cup of tea and watch the rest of your videos. 🌿🪴🌹🪴🌿
Hello Jennifer! I’m so so happy you’re here 😊 welcome! I cannot wait to start getting out into the garden, I’m also hoping to make some changes, learn new things and grow as a gardener, I’m always learning and have made lots of mistakes but it’s all fun! Have a great weekend 🤗
Your garden is gorgeous Angela! 🌷🌹🌸 I’m completely with you on the subject of colour … I love blues, pinks, purples in my cottage garden at the front in the sun … but my back garden spends a lot of time in deep shade, so I’m developing a mostly green planting plan, with reds & oranges for colour. It’s only in its very early days! It’s lovely to see yours looking so beautiful. And I love your jam pan planter, I’ve often wondered about doing exactly that whenever I saw one in a charity shop, so next time I’ll buy it! 😊 Many thanks, Ruthie x
Hi Ruthie, oh your garden sounds wonderful too! Mine is only small, but I like it that was as it’s manageable.. love the idea of having two different sets of colour schemes, best of both worlds. Let’s hope we both have bountiful blooms all summer long x x
It would be very helpful if you could name the plants as you tour .I think many people watch these videos for inspiration and to see certain plants true form ,height and colour so it's useful to know varieties 🙂
Hey Susie, that’s an excellent idea, I’ll try to do that on my next video, thank you so much for watching and I appreciate you taking the time to comment~ thank you 😊 have a lovely day xx
Your garden is better than a 'beginnier's garden' Angela! Passing your garden for the first time, I would never believe it was a beginner's garden. Your flowering plants are so healthy and gorgeous. I live in a climate very similar to England and have many of the same flowering plants in my garden. However, I'm always struggling and feeding the soil which is very poor in nutrients. I also love the curve of the flowering beds. Lovely, charming vlog. Thanks so much.
Hello 👋 wow, thank you for such a glowing compliment, I really appreciate it 🤩 I’m so happy you enjoyed it 👏🏻 I do still feel like a beginner, but I think I know what I like now, and (mostly) what works in our garden… I had lots of disasters though 😂 we are super lucky that we have really good soil here so I have a helping hand, thank you for being here. I’m planning on doing a little garden video this weekend so you may enjoy that one x
Greetings from Ireland, Beautiful garden, and Its the bees knees. Our front garden has four flower beds and fifty eight pots. My wife has no interest in gardening and she tells me it looks like a mini garden centre. We have a bigger garden out the back with grass, a glasshouse, water barrels and a no dig veg bed. Our front garden is a mixture of cottage garden flowers and prairie flowers both of which the bees and butterflies love. Next autumn I plan to create two big no dig flowers beds, I will divide flowerers from the front garden and plant them into the new beds. I have loads of homemade compost so I might as well use it in the beds. I grow annuals from seeds and they can be planted into the new beds. I had no interest in gardening twenty years ago and learned a lot over the the years from books and the internet.
Hello Nicholas- thank you so much for sharing your garden 🪴 it sounds amazing! 58 pots!? Wow, I think your wife’s description, that it looks like a mini garden garden centre, is actually a compliment 🌸🪴like you, I didn’t start getting into gardening until later in life, now I get so much pleasure seeing things grow! Happy gardening 🧑🌾 👏🏻
Love your garden Angela! I grow small spaces vertical gardening , pots and grow bags for my fruit trees but the yard is lawn, some of it anyway. Thank you for sharing your beauty here!
Hello Janice, thank you for watching and the feedback, I really appreciate it, I’m planning on another garden video when I’ve got a few days off work, so I’ll be sure to include the names ☺️👍
Hello Carmela, wow what a wonderful comment to read, thank you so much for the lovely compliment, I’ll definitely be sharing more of the garden as we head into summer 🌸😊
I’ve tried to close this several times, but I keep opening it up again..! LOL I need to get to work, but love being here… for the peace and joy..! I’m really old, but would love to begin, just the same… Already established plants are a delight… I can at least get ‘a season’ out of it..! 😉❤️ Lovely. Thank you..! ❤❤❤
Hello Mia, haha, thank you for such a nice message, I hope you did get some work done eventually 😂 oh you must, gardening is such a pleasure, and mostly the results are pretty quick and therefore satisfying… best wishes to you x x
Thank you for the beautiful tour of your garden. There is always something to learn about in the garden! But take time to sit back and enjoy it too. The smells, the colors the Peace❤.
Hi Carrie, thank you for watching and taking the time to leave me a comment, I really appreciate it. Oh I’m still learning for sure, but, like you, I’m also getting to know what I like and what mostly works… the process is very rewarding. Enjoy your garden 🎉❤
I never thought about learning about gardening because it's just too intimating. I really like your approachable guidelines and tips. Instant subscribed ❤️
Wonderful! I’m delighted! Please don’t be intimidated, I didn’t start for years because I felt exactly the same as you, but you just learn a little at a time, I’m still learning each year, mainly through trail and error… even if you start with one pot/container, it’s so rewarding when you start to see your plant grow. Wishing you happy gardening times ahead… I’d love to know, in due course, how you get on… x x
When I use containers that I have to drill holes in I stack my stones rather than lay them flat. They drain better. Such beautiful flowers. We don’t have plants like those here. It’s just basics. So I use seeds but this year cold got them and other plants I had potted. I also lost plants that I’ve had for years. I thought I lost my Ginger Lily but thankfully it recovered. Thanks for sharing 😊
Hello 😊 and welcome. That’s such a good idea to stack them, I’ll remember that tip - thank you Ooh I know the feeling of losing a plant, I have lost quite a few too, my white agapanthus (which I’d spent ages hunting for around garden centres) didn’t make it through the winter….I’m glad your Lily survived 🎉 whereabouts are you from? I’m new to UA-cam and I’m finding it fascinating that people are “visiting” my garden from further a field! X x
Lovely relaxing video and your garden is just gorgeous 😊👌 I really like the idea of having a colour schemebin the garden similar to in the house, i'd never thought of that but it makes sense now x
Hey Faye, thank you so much. Yes, it really does help to create a cohesive look. I find they sit together in harmony more 😅 thank you for watching, much appreciated x x
Just found your channel. Your garden is quite pretty and relaxing! 🌻I am constantly learning also, with many garden disasters to my credit. LOL. My current garden has 3 distinct microclimates that are challenging bc it took a while to understand what was going on. 😊
Hello 👋 thank you so much for watching and leaving such a lovely comment 😊 oh believe me I’ve had quite a few mistakes too 😅 and getting used to what works where does take time… I’m still learning also 🎉
Just gorgeous!-your sweet peas, and roses, and peonies, wisteria, hosta-the garden fragrance I’m sure is delightful and many precious bees 🐝 and butterflies 🦋 make your garden their home.🩷
Thank you so much, yes everything is starting to pop now 🌸 I’ve planted my sweet peas so late this year so they’ll be very late to flower, and the slugs 🐌 have found my hostas this year 🥲 I’ve got away without them being eaten for a few years but not words got out around the slug and snail community and they’re having a feast 😂
Hello Angela, thank you for the pretty tutorial video. I always loved this look and last summer I started to transition my 20 year old garden to cottage style. My neighbours walk by and tell me how much they love the changes that I made. I have some injuries, awaiting hand and knee surgery and so I am forced to let things go more which is actually so much prettier and easier. I love the pastel tones too, I do have a little bit of red flowers for the hummingbirds and some pale yellow flowers. I am buying more white flowers to light and brighten my garden.
Hello! Oh this is wonderful to read! That’s also why I like the cottage style garden, it can be a bit more relaxed (less weeding!) lovely of your neighbours to compliment you, proof you’ve made a beautiful garden 🪴 I hope your surgery is soon and very successful…🤞🏻 wishing you good health & happiness, happy gardening 🧑🌾 xx
Thank you. I have really enjoyed this video of your lovely garden. I have subscribed so I can enjoy more of your videos. God bless you from Vera in Ireland ❤
Loved your advice and your garden! I have a cottage garden in Florida full sun. Quite a challenge. It helped me to realize that it is always a work in progress & never gonna be perfect. I hated weeding until i learned to enjoy the process. I grow mainly for cutting flowers too. My big complaint is my cats like to rearrange my flowers for me & sip the water from them.😡
Hello 👋 and welcome, goodness, all the way over in Florida, I can’t imagine weeding in your hot sun ☀️😂 it must be exhausting, but I agree, I’ve learnt to sort of switch off and focus on small areas at a time…if I look at it all I get overwhelmed. My garden is far from perfect either, in fact, after the working week I’ve said to my husband we must get on in the garden🌸👍
Hello, and thank you for watching 😊 I will try to film more of the garden too for next time. I have done another garden video which shows a little more, it’s titled “calm your anxiety in the garden” xx
Hello! Thank you so so much. Unfortunately this year I haven’t had the chance to grow from seed, although I have done in the past, we don’t have a lot of room in the garden or house… one day I hope to have a little greenhouse which would be wonderful 🌸🪴🌿🤗
Hello 👋 thank you for watching… quite honestly the weeds aren’t too bad at all, where the borders are full not a-lot has a chance to grow… my weeds do seem to be popping up in all my pots though 😅
@@hideawaycottage it’s the dang field bindweed and quack grass, the ones with the mile long rhizomes, I think they start in the fires pits in middle of the earth …….
your garden is beautiful, your presentation video is nice too, I must say though your clips of movies was a bit bizarre because your voice and garden is soothing and then a sudden clip threw me off a bit.
Hi Chris, thank you so much for watching, yeah I might have gone off-piste there 😂 it was my third video and I’m just finding my feet on how to present and edit what I want to share, it’s much trickier than I’d thought! I Will keep trying and hopefully improving x
A real beginner tip: If you're on a budget (or not) avoid those crazy expensive garden centers and get your plants at nurseries. You'll save hundreds and hundreds of pounds.
Another: when you're confident about plant families and what looks salvageable, buy plants at ANY store that has a rack of dollar plants (ones they forgot to water, etc that look half dead). I've gotten loads this way. Swapping cuttings or bulbs with neighbors another. Shopping perennials at the end of the season when they're on sale also.
Yes Chris, I absolutely agree…. The posher the garden centre the more expensive the plants, I like the slightly scruffy, off the beaten track nurseries the best… much better value. Top tip 👍
More of the garden and less colse up on plants i watched the vid and still have no idea what ur cottage garden desin is and if this is ment to hlep create a garden seein your garden would help loads
Hi Phil, thank you for your feedback, I appreciate it, I’ll try and do more of a garden tour and show the design on my next video, I hope you’ll come back to watch it, thank you x
Oh I can definitely relate to this feeling as I don’t drive either 😩 it’s so frustrating! Luckily once the weather warms up here my husband quite enjoys a garden centre trip, so we tend to go at the weekends… but I agree, buying online is often disappointing x
Hello, do you mean the jam pan? I’m happy to be reusing it as it was a charity shop, it wasn’t a antique as such, and it will be used and enjoyed in the garden ☺️
