Since we dont have running or drinking water at our Abandoned Farm in Spain, building the our Rainwater Harvesting System with IBC Totes became our first project.
Rainwater Harvesting is a sustainable water management solution for areas with limited access to water resources, like in our property.
We are planning to start this Rainwater Harvesting System project using intermediate bulk containers or IBC Totes as our Water Storage Tanks.
In this video, you will see the challenges and struggles of this FIRST project we did at our Abandoned Farm in Spaim.

Your project, land and house restoration looks very exciting
Hi. I'm very late with the production of the video, I apologize for that. This "Rainwater Harvesting System" video is part 1 of several parts. I hope you enjoy it! Leave your comments. I will reply to everyone then. Regards, Ricardo dos Santos.
when you was showing where the road is going to be, I saw an old drum. you should keep it. so you can made a rocket stove, as some regions in Spain have really cold winters. or at least you can use the drum to burn the garbage in a closed environment.
Hello there. That was an old sort of rubber bucket that looks very much like an old drum. I am thinking to get at least two old drums to make a fire pit and to make a rocket stove. Thank you for watching. All the best
Hi Mate, when you finish cleaning the IBC containers and fill them with water, ensure you cover (IBC covers are available in Spain) them to protect them from UV damage and prevent algae growing inside the tanks caused by sunlight
Hello John. Appreciate your concern and tip. On the future videos will show the proccess we did to cover the IBCs with black tarp to protect it from the UV damage and also to prevent algae to grow inside. Thank you for watching. All the best :)
good luck it will be beautiful when you get finished thank you for the video
Hello Charles. For me is already beautiful the way it is. I love everything there. The restoration of the Finca will bring the house and land to its formal glory. Thank you for watching. All the best
i agree to it is beautiful it will be even better
Well, I would have recommended a pressure washer for this job .. takes quite a bit of hot water and effort to get these tanks fully clean. Renting such a device is not expensive .. at least in my country .. but the result is worth it :))
Seems your car needs a tow bar so you could use a trailer. As you're about to renovate and build a lots of things, ability to tow a trailer wouldn't definitely hurt.
Fantastic plans anyway .. good luck making them happen !!
Hello there. When I did clean that first IBC I did not have a generator, cooker or water on the property. That is the reason for the way we cleaned. For future we will use a jet wash, cooker to boil water and generator. It is all a learning curve for us. Regarding the trailer, for the next season will get one, because it is really needed. Thank you for watching. All the best
Hello. You can use that vegetable oil later to stain your wood projects. And if it does not need to be filtered then you can also use it in diesel engines to operate. So, for example, if you get a diesel generator later on, you can use that vegetable oil as fuel for the engine.
Hello Robert. I didn’t think on that before. Will research if the vegetable oil will be any good for staining wood. Thank you for bringing that up.
A lot of work to get those clean but worth it!
Hello Rita. It was a lot of work to get the IBCs cleaned indeed. This was only the first of several steps. On future videos will continue the build of this rainwater harvesting system. Thank you for watching. All the best :)
@@eridulife there’s no spring water anywhere you could have access to?
Hello Rita. Have to explore around the Finca to find out if there is any spring on the mountains. Talking about water, we got the local builder to inspect the well, and it apears that there is water under the mud. Restoring the well is one of the future projects. It will be a big milestone because we will have water on the land. Thank you :)
Beautiful, looking forward to seeing it develop
Hello there. Appreciate your comment. We also are looking to see this project developed. Thank you for watching. All the best
I am glad you bought this house and restoring it, it will be great, good luck😊
Hello there. I am glad that you liked. It is a beautiful and picturesque place. Once the house restoration is completed I am going to move in. Can’t wait to that. Thank you for watching. All the best
Greetings from Ukraine!Wish you the best of luck with the project!
Hello there. Appreciate your support. It is a challenging project, but will perseverance, courage and hard work will get things done. Thank you for watching. All the best :)
White vinegar, degreases gets rid of smells and is eco friendly 👍
Hello there. Hello. What a great tip to use vinegar, I had never thought of that despite using vinegar to clean other things around the house. I will use it on the other two IBCs that need cleaning. Thank you for watching it. All the best :)
Wishing you both every success ✨
Appreciate your support... Thank you :)
Looking forward to seeing your plan come to fruition ! I also learnt the hard way - don't buy anything sight unseen and being there for delivery, lesson hard learned ... Not everyone in this world is trustworthy, unfortunately
Hello Sonia. I got a big lesson from these IBCs too. Do not buy anything prior seeing what you actually buying. It is a lot to do, but slowly and steady we are making progress. Thank you for watching. All the best
Well done! Fantastic 🎉 #proudofyou
Hello sunshine! Appreciate your support. Next time you are in Spain, will take you to the Finca. Thank you for watching. All the best :)
I wish you the best on the process of getting the property in a livable state for you and the family. I really like the videos do far and the history of the property. Good luck in everything to do there !!!
Hello Manuel. Appreciate your support and comment. This year we are starting the stone house restoration, at least the first part of it. Really looking forward to move permanently to the Finca. Thank you for watching. All the best
Thanks for sharing Ricardo. Those IBCs were hard work but you did a good job on them
Hello Terry. Appreciate your comment. It was a hard work indeed. So far managed to clean two of the IBCs. On future will use a jet wash to clean the others. Thank you for watching. All the best :)
I suggest water mixed with soil rub well and leave for half an hour then wash with water, the soil will absorb the dirt, it's holy and organic.
Hello there. I have thought of that, but the water flow coming out of the IBC is too little, adding soul will block and make the thing more difficult. I got two IBCs left to clean. Will use a jet wash with petrol generator to clean it. Thank you for watching. All the best
Isn't it easier to dismantle the house and rebuild it from the same stones? I think the repair will be comparable in price and most likely more difficult to work
Hello Aster. Appreciate your comment. It would be easier to demosh and rebuild, but the system does not allow us to do that. The only way we can do is to restore. It is not a very complicated job, just require the correct labour "stone mason". Thank you for watching. All the best :)
use vodka or any distilled alcohol spray bottle it then rinse
Hello Stefan. I will try this on next IBC, may on the very dirty one. Thank you
Hi mate to improve you video quality trim out some random bits (walkig) mabey be more imformative on the video and type less will carry on watching these as i am embarking on the same journey good stuff tho well done im hopeing to learn what ever i can off you
Hello. Appreciate the feedback. We are trying to share the journey, nor to teach anything to anyone. So I don't think there will be much talk in the videos, just like to way it is. For explanations we will make Q&A type of videos, so that way we can answer all the questions from the comments. Thanks for watching. All the best
Promo sm 👌
Hello Ronnie. Thank you for watching. All the best :)
You are going to need a truck. Four wheel drive. Very important.
Hello Mike. Yes, will need a four wheel drive car. I am planning to sell my UK registered car, and buy a Spanish one. Probably a 90’s Cherokee :)
