In my personal opinion, this is one of the best standards since dragons of Tarkir. Wizards managed to make this one relatively fun and affordable with a lot of diversity and different decks in the meta. Really loving this standard arena content :D
I feel like quasiduplicate has the potential to be much more than just a panharmonicon substitute. I tried running doom whisperers in my version of this deck and I just won games by cloning that. 3 huge flyers as soon as turn 6 isn't bad. I also tried it as a 1-of in more aggressive blue decks and in a phoenix-less drake deck and it was great when I drew it. It sucks when your opponent has a cast down or a contempt, but there is a surprisingly low number of instant speed spells that kill large creatures. I believe I played against Seth a week or so ago when he was playing a sultai ramp deck that was trying to clone carnage tyrants with quasiduplicate and helm of the host that was really cool during the 1 game where I didn't just aggro him out. Any chance you're gonna revisit that one?
It's obviously not *as* good or it would see more play, but it has Rhino's effect. Also it's monocolour, so despite its higher CMC it can sometimes be easier to cast. Oh, and it flies.
@@d_andrews I was making a bit of a joke, cause I've heard it called Siege Flyno, and Seth constantly calls it a 1 mana more expensive Siege Rhino, but it is a 3/4, not a 4/5, which I don't think I've ever heard him mention.
@@pocketwatched Cause costing 1 more is a bigger deal than being smaller? At 4 mana I think I wouldn't care too much whether it's 4/5 on the ground or 3/4 in the air.
In this deck its incredible. Turn5 sovereign drain 3 gained 3, turn 6 with 2 quasis means 2 more flyers and 6 drained with 6 gained. 3 creatures and an 18 point life swing is nice.
Tyler Phillips hi wouldn’t say that MTGO looks bad. But it’s less fancy, and harder to see cards. Although I do like when Seth says what the opponent says. And there’s no chat in Arena yet. And he does Goldfish Gladiators fairly often.
@@PalPlays I don't know... I feel like at least as a sideboard option... sounds pretty good. You have a point that it might "dilute" what the deck is trying to do...
@@DiogoVKersting At that point though, Negate just seems like a better option. Yes it costs one more mana, but it's not utterly useless when our opponent is casting sweepers, Teferis, or counters. Yes, Dive Down prevents being blown out by removal in response to Quasiduplicate, but Quasi also needs creatures to work. If we draw a Dive Down that would have otherwise been a creature to copy, it can flood us out of the game. I would try running one and see where that takes me.
@MTGGoldfish I love how with Arena even when watching your game play on-the-go on a smaller screen you can perfectly see and understand what's going on :) Also now that you got a taste for it, *please revisit Siege Rhino for Modern* , that card and your previous decks with it are just so cool
I've been trying to build a quasiduplicate deck with the wee dragonaughts. If I play the maximize velocity on one and duplicate it twice, I have 3 8/4 flyers going to face. I just haven't had the chance to try it out at my lgs.
Hey Seth Glad to still see you doing arena content (nothing against the new dude, Its awesome you got more people doing gameplays... still waiting for that tomer budget commander series tho). It just wanted to say its awesome you still keep up the arena videos despite the haters, would be a shame to see you confined to just modo, or the new guy to just arena. About the deck tho, why no doom whisperers? I have been running vampire sovereings in my golgari deck as a silverbullets for aggro decks, and seven out of ten times I want it to be a doomwhisperer for the bigger butt, attack and trample. In specefic while the free lightning helix is awesome, the fact that it doesnt trades with a drake, when im my experience those decks are rampant in arena is kinda a downside.
have you considered riverwise augur/quasiduplicate? with creeping chill/pheonix and some more self-mill/surviel it could make for scary draws. and if you're running lots of blue spells like discovery and dive-down for drowned secrets, it'd make sense to throw in murmering mystic, the best quasiduplicate card. I feel like there's something in that.
www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/1461421#arena Here's a quick list I threw together, it's getting pulled in a couple of different directions. so you might want to choose a path before taking it any further. maybe there's too few black sources to support Lazav and thought erasure? maybe narcomoeba is good enough just for a free blocker? I'm sure with arena's economy you'll figure it out long before I'm able to scrape together enough wildcards for the lands.
