Your video is the best organized tutorial I’ve found concerning Medium. You touch on so many different issues and viewpoints that it becomes nearly universal in reach. I’ve been on Medium for years, but only recently monetized and got serious about it as potential revenue stream. Your work here has given me the additional confidence I believe I need to actually earn something from my writing. (All daydreaming aside, I’ll be thrilled to see 50 cents a month!) From my current vantage point, your advice on niches is platinum.
I did notice some comments mentioning the Medium’s subscription costs. Realistically, I just see it as an expense to be substracted from any gross earnings and not a reason to avoid it. Certainly, earnings are dependent on how many paying customers are reading your articles, but being an old-school (Born 1965) reminds me of when I first grabbed a copy of Writer’s Market and started submitting articles. There were free publications, but their reach was to a significantly smaller audience and any payment was generally in printed copies. Then there were paying markets that occasionally bestowed actual money (3 or 5 cents per word) and those publications survived by selling and subscriptions. Medium’s approach isn’t radical.

Yes, definitely just go out there and explore with different niches and topics and see what "sticks".
And I totally understand that paying $5/mo to basically grow someone else's platform might not be everyone's cup of tea. But at the end of the day, with some practice you will earn that back in no time!
And nice insights from the earlier days! Yes, I agree that Medium isn't radical with their approach. I think they've also clarified how they pay for the publishers, as like 2-3 years ago it wasn't clear at all. These days they've published a much more transparent version of their monetization system.

Good informative video. I had to stop the video though when you said that writing about what we really want to write about is not a good idea.
We should always write what we really want to write about! There's an audience for everything! Sure, if your primary goal in life is to make as much money as you can, follow the masses and focus solely on trending topics.
I'm not sure how well that will work on Medium however. They encourage people to write heart felt stories. I probably won't ever bother with trending topics unless it's something that truly interests me. But each to their own!
I would find it very difficult to write about stuff that doesn't truly interest me. I have done a bit...not on trending topics but on mic review stories. Took forever and it wasn't nearly as fun as creative and inspired writing!
The world needs to see fresh content, not just the same old same old stuff. That's just my opinion 🙂 I also think it's much easier to stay consistent if you write on topics you yourself are knowledeable/interested in ✌

Sure, you can write on Medium about whatever you like (as long as it follows the guidelines, OFC).
But the harsh reality is that people don't really care about "random stuff".
For example, if I wrote a blog post about how my disc golf round was today with my mate, it would get 0 reads. That's just the way those platforms work these days.
Literally, anyone can sign up and write content about anything in minutes. This makes it super hard to stand out without strategic efforts
It's all about solving problems, being entertaining, and providing value!
These days, ppl won't bother reading random stories about random topics.
Surely, if you write hundreds or thousands of random stories about topics you want, then perhaps a handful of them will get a notable number of views.
But of course, if blogging as a career is not what you're after, then the number of reads or money you make is of course not the issue you should focus on!! So if there are no financial intentions, then just write about whatever you like :)

sisiter u are highlighting something pretty important, right at this moment i was writing on medium and i thought of this thing but have decided to write what i really feel and inshallah sooner or later someone with same thoghts might read it and love it,, big love to people that hear their heart instead of what people wants from us❤

The reason I talk about writing about in-demand topics is just to make a career out of blogging!
People rarely read personal stories from authors they don’t know. Thus, it can be hard to get any reads to those
personal but less in-demand topics!!
But if blogging is more of a hobby, then write about what you want! I’m absolutely no one to tell what people should/should not do :)

Hey....i appriciate your work really informative...i jst wanted to know that is it necessary to do keyword research for entire content so for the sake of SEO as you r going to use that content as a reference portfolio for your clients who wants SEO optimised content?? Your suggestion would be really helpful
To do KW research on Medium posts? Sure you can showcase your SE knowledge by targeting high volume topics and rank for those with high quality content.
But TBH, I’m not a huge fan of SEO. It’s the human-written content that matters! Not keywords or SEO hacks

Absolutely not :) just make sure to disclose the links and not make it too promotional.
The only downside is that Medium COULD ban affiliate links anytime they wish, so I’d not rely too much on affiliate marketing on Medium :)

Some find success by self-publishing, but I recommend submitting every story to a publication!

I think English is the main language on the platform.
What I’d suggest doing is to check if there are popular stories in Hindi.
If there are, that’s a good sign.
But if there are none, then perhaps English should be the way to go!
I always use top stories as an inspiration. So make sure to do that as well :)
If there are no popular posts about say rabbits, then that’s probably not a good topic (money and popularity-wise)

I answered in the other thread, but just to summarize for someone scrolling: You need to be a paying member and partner to earn from Medium. BUT if you do affiliate marketing, you don’t need to be a partner!

This is absolutely NOT FREE it costs 5$ a month to become a "partner" it is NOT free you are NOT able to just get in start writing and start making money.

Medium acting like Britches now. Their Algorithm is affecting traffic and many author left
They’ll for sure need to tweak their algorithm to battle all the AI content that the platform is flooded with.
If I earn less than 300 USD/day, I cancel my medium account.
Well… that’s a bit too hard goal. There are probably 10-20 authors that constantly earn that on the entire platform
I’d say 10-50 USD/day is already very good
