Jet is technically not a mineral, or stone. Like its cousin amber, it's a mineraloid. Whitby jet looks so sophisticated and elegant when mounted in sterling silver or white gold. It lends itself to great contemporary settings too. A unique and very special material 😃.
fossil gems are the ABOSLUTE COOLEST!!!!! not just pretty, but they have a different history than non fossil gems. it would be amazing if you did a video about dinosaur gem-bone, agatized fossil dinosaur bone. as an amateur lapidary, its by far my favorite stone to cut and set into jewelry
I found a huge hill packed full of jet... in a area I found dinosaur fossils.. in the jet area I found what looks like part of a jaw bone made of jet! Where the piece broke off from where it came from I can see the bone pours and inside structure. I think I found the first bone jet.. it's not by the water but up a large hill by a big slope that has rock all eroding and the jet just comes out of the ground! Location is in Massachusetts USA
I just did hardness test and they are harder than my nail, harder than a penny, harder than a paper clip, and with glass it did not scratch but shaved off glass and left a very faint dent in the potential jet that rubbed out. I did a burn test and it smelled like coal and it's super light like plastic and warm to touch. I cannot find jet recorded that has hardness between 6 or 7. Not sure if a faint dent counts but it did not scratch but pressed hard enough it would sure break due to it being soft. Not sure how hard I should press
Great video and I enjoyed the history. Maybe you should talk about German minerals and gemstones. I know Pucherite is named after the Pucher Shaft at the Wolfgang mine in Schneeburg, Saxony, Germany.
What a joke that mop under a stone is patented. That has been going on for 50 years+ in the trade to act like she created that is insane, I have pieces older than her that has that procedure done. How the hell is that a patentable thing. Tiffany, Van Cleef, and many many others use this and have used this method.
This episode was a pleasant surprise. I learn quite a bit. Thank you, Rebecca!
I AM TOTALLY IN LOVE OF THIS CHANNEL!!

She missed out Cairngorm (Half way between Smokey Quartz and Citrine.) basically it’s too yellow to be Smokey Quartz and too brown to be Citrine.
This was fascinating and well done! Can you do blue john and have close ups? 😊

Lol. I sit with a chuck of jet underneath my chair outside. Great stone.
Wow!
Love the examples. I’ve not seen a lot of jet examples IRL.
🥑 🥑 🥑 🥑 🥑 Love the channel always learn so much thank you =D
Fascinating. I have a large black rose shaped earring that s probably imitating jet just because 😼. That’s my theory.😂😂

Wow, Queen Victoria really experienced that phase
Are you able to verify from what trees these fossils come from?
It's just a slice of Hollownest.
🥑 another 🥑 great 🥑 video 🥑
I don't know why anyone would want to wear a piece of carved coal. because that's what jet is a type of coal. it does look neat though

Jet is not a fossil
Title should be Fossilized Tree turned into Jewelry.” Gemstones can’t be fossilized as they are already stone and or mineralized.
That is the title...
