Brother, you have no idea how much time this saves me during editing and how long I’ve been looking for this. I’m sincerely thankful because I edit long interviews so the constant scrolling becomes a pain after a while. I’m very thankful.
Yep! I mention that a little further down. Unfortunately, I hadn't thought of / tested that yet when I made the video. Will add it to the German version. 😉
Thanks! Yes, PPro's scrolling timeline is an _absolutely useless disaster_ IMHO. And ironically I had never personally seen it in action and have *_never_* seen anyone use actually it either! Now I think I know why. 😄 So again, it really makes me wonder how in the world it could actually have been at the *top* of anyone's list? 🤷🏼♂
This is a feature I have wanted for a long time! It is a setting that has been available in my DAW, Cubase, for years. I will install the new version ASAP and try it out, but based on this video, I like what I see. Now, if only they’d let us choose colours for the background of the preview window. Black on black isn’t helpful when trying to resize an image or clip so that it fills the screen.
Again, while it makes total sense to me *_for audio_* I have no need for it for video thumbnails. And since it, as explained, doesn't work quite the way that _I_ could really benefit from it, I don't see myself using it much, if ever. And you know you can have a *_checkerboard_* background, right?
There isn't by default, no. But you CAN set up your own in the Command Editor. Simply search for "Timeline Scrolling" and set it to whatever you want! 😊
As I often tweak fades during playback, I love the feature that the scrolling stops when you start trimming or adjusting fades or edit points but the playback continues! You just need to have a tool (Trim, Range, Blade) selected!
I swear it did work yesterday, but does not seem to work like that today? Strange!@@postpros-e EDIT!!! It sure works once you have a tool (Trim, Range, Blade) selected!
So are you going to use it?? Let us know what you think! And two things I forgot to mention (thank you to the commenters!): 1. Holding down ⇧ (Shift) while scrolling the timeline with *_any_* mouse will scroll *_horizontally_* 2. You can set up your own shortcut in the Command Editor for turning the timeline scrolling on and off without having to go into the settings. Simply search for "Timeline Scrolling" and set it to whatever you want! 😊
@@postpros-e kein Ding.

Deutsche Videos brauche ich aktuell nicht. it is a bit jittery but it seems nice. I would like a hot key to turn on and off or a button on the main ui. also I have m3 max but when I work with fcpx the gpu meter never gets all the way to the top. But when I render in blender it uses every last bit of gpu. I would think fcpx would take full advantage, but it doesn't in the render or the editor. Do you have the same experience?
As I commented above, you *_can_* choose any random shortcut for turning it on/off. I unfortunately neglected to mention that in the video. :( And yeah, as I explained, various things play into how smoothly it'll scroll. It's also the reason why Apple has shied away from implementing it until now. It has technically been there possibly even since day one, but only now where the most recent version of FC is limited to only the most recent/powerful Macs, they felt it would be the time and could expect it to work well enough on any and all compatible machines. Apple is (thankfully) all about UX, first and foremost. They don't just implement stuff for the sake of randomly padding their feature list or popularity contest, even when it's only half-baked… as others do. 😉
Also, you can't compare FC with a 3D app. Both use entirely different frameworks to render. FC intentionally does NOT use the GPU, no. FC uses the far more efficient and exponentially faster Media Engines for rendering, as I'm assuming you have an Apple Silicon Mac.
@@postpros-ethanks much! was hoping for better performance from Final Cut but it aint bad my videos are just intense. @@deareeMusic Again, using the *_GPUs_* would be *_slower_* than using the Media Engines. That's the whole point of having them. And if you have TWO, as with the Max and Ultra chips, it will be that much faster.
Totally agree. I think this is by far the best scrolling timeline compared to PP and Avid MC. But I'm not sure I will use it that much since I often manually scroll outside the playhead area to do changes during playback. I think this is one of FCP's greatest features. I know this scrolling timeline option has been a hot request for many, but IMO it's overrated.
I agree wholeheartedly. I have no clue how this could actually have been at the TOP of anyone's list. Wha? But yes, IF I'm going to have one, I'm sure glad it's _this one_ . 😄 BTW I unfortunately failed to mention that you can _add a shortcut_ for turning it on and off! Which in fact makes it that much more useful. At least for me. E.g. for *multicams* it's in fact a godsend - again something I forgot to mention/show 🤦🏼♂- since those don't otherwise update when editing! So yeah, it's definitely nice to have as an option. ;) I've added those tips on the side in the next video. :)

Hallo Philipp!
