This Burr lacks the dramatic dance swagger/choreography that Leslie Odom Jr gave us in the Broadway adaptation, hope it gets added back in later iterations of this show. Unless it was totally improvised by Odom Jr, in which case, my respect for him just went up.
Actually I enjoyed the physicality of this Burr. Don't get me wrong, I adore me some LO Jr, but this Burr is more balletic. His whole character is contained, pristine -- a kind of unwillingness to get down and dirty with the rebels. He moves around the stage like a dancer, like a cat almost. It works remarkably well for Burr. There's a moment in Guns and Ships where he's up in the rafters and sings to the audience... "How does a ragtag, volunteer army (then he sings the rest pointedly at the soldiers below) ... in need of a SHOWER..." like he can smell them from way up there and chooses to keep his distance. It was very funny and got a big laugh. So to see such a contained, controlled character slowly unravel as he is thwarted at every turn by the dirty, noisy, fornicating (in his eyes) Hamilton, gives his whole journey extra pathos, I thought.
@Lee Morunga i am more than happy to embrace differences but this guy is a pretty horrible Aaron burr. His tone changes and just his voice bouncing up and down in every line is cringey and literally makes me shudder.
Literally stop comparing this to the original cast. Like I’m pretty sure we all know this isn’t the original cast so it’s irrelevant to be comparing. It’s just an Australian interpretation of the musical. So everyone can take some deep breaths and calm down.
this burr is kind of treating his voice very strictly, almost like he's limiting himself to the beat without much if any rubato, and i think that combined with focusing on the melody of the rap gives a very interesting highlight to burr being the narrator, that he's driving the story and music
So excited, seeing this in July! So happy we are getting a production in Oz, thought I would have to go to US to tick this one off musical bucket list.

Same with the Original London Cast, New London Cast, OBC, New Broadway Cast, Original and New Chicaho Casts and all the Tour Casts Old and New.

Damn I was meant to be going next weekend but Brisbane lockdown has thrown a spanner in the works. Gonna go in October instead, hopefully there's no dramas by then
It does sound like it is slowed down, but I wonder if some of that is because of his diction. It’s as though he’s trying to pronounce most words perfectly and evenly. Leslie Odom, Jr. wasn’t like that. He’s put such emotion in his voice you’d hear rushes of breath, him hanging in diphthongs or letting words rip out of glottal plosives. He had a certain urgency in some songs, this being one of them.
I think this guy has to do an accent that’s unnatural to him on top of singing and acting. It’s like if you had to do an Australian accent for a Broadway show.
@@tori2dles I agree and think he's trying to over annunciate to make up for the accent difference which isn't even noticeable in his case, and does even matter if you look at the uk version. but it does seem he's more focused on saying the words rather than telling the story
