Wasn't a huge fan of this song, because the Wizard of Oz references are a little too in your face. I prefer a more subtle approach to references. However, moving the speed up breathed new life into it. Nice, because I listen to it a lot since I play this album's playlist all the time at work. Especially love 1:55 - 2:20.
first time I heard this song was in the back seat of my big bro car, 2003 after we said our goodbyes to my dad in the hospital, I had it played at his funeral.

Motionless in White is from PA too! I'm from Tennessee....10 Years, Red, Saliva, & Paramour are all from Tn. The singer from Shinedown Brent Smith is from Tn as well. Tn & Pa alone have produced some fucking awesome bands \m/
Nope, the song is about wizard of Oz, every line tells you about the movie, pls don't say anything of pedo, BB is a great band, don't spill bullshit on their name

Listening to a song like this, then going forward and listing to one of their newer songs... It's amazing to see how much they've improved. Which is surprising, because this is pretty damn difficult to improve on.
Because I have too many songs for a top 10, I'll give my favorite song from each album SATURATE- Polyamorous WE ARE NOT ALONE- Away PHOBIA- The Diary of Jane DEAR AGONY- I Will Not Bow DARK BEFORE DAWN- Angels Fall
Me: Saturate - FOREVER We Are Not Alone - Simple Design Phobia - Until the End Dear Agony - Give me a Sign (I will not bow was really close here though) Dark Before Dawn - Ashes of Eden Yeah, that pretty much does it. So cold was close on WANA, but I prefer simple design for its heavy/soft awesomeness. Also, phase was close on saturate, but nothing beats forever, NOTHING.
Fuck a top three BB list... I'll go top 10 songs. 1. Home 2. Shallow Bay 3. So Cold 4. Dance With the Devil 5. Crawl 6. Wish I May 7. The Diary of Jane 8. I Will Not Bow 9. Away 10. The Rain Song

Personally I think this: 1.Sugarcoat 2.follow 3.sooner or later 4.water 5.shallow bay 6.diary of Jane 7.unknown soldier 8.away 9.topless 10.i will not bow
Brody Jones I think you might change that list what with Dark Before Dawn. The 3 singles released right now make me think the album is gonna be *great* And my top 10, in no order: - Unknown Soldier - Phase - Break My Fall - Evil Angel - Angels Fall - So Cold - Breakdown - No Games - Topless - Firefly
I do have to alter the Top 10 after the new album... 1. "Home" 2. "Wish I May" 3. "Shallow Bay" 4. "Hollow" 5. "Ashes of Eden" 6. "Failure" 7. "Dance With The Devil" 8. "Evil Angel" 9. "Away" 10. "So Cold" Some of this list has likely changed but it is impossible to list just 10 favorite Breaking Benjamin songs when you like everything they have ever done.
Not my own comment, but great insight of the meaning behind it. He's in a twisted relationship with a woman. She colors his skin and the colors don't blend means she leaves him feeling abused. He says he's going to get her and that there's no place like home. He says no place like home with anger. He wants her to come back home. She obviously left. When he says he's going to get her, he means sexually and physically back. "I've got a southern belle too with ruby red shoes" He's describing how he has another woman now. "Are you sick of it all?" he asks her if she's sick of it because he wants to make her mad and is wondering if she's jealous. He wants her jealous. Revenge is something he's after. When he said "too" this means she also has someone else. "There's a man made of tin with an oil can grin" This is him in the metaphor. He is hollow. The grin is symbolic for his evil intensions. He wants to do her harm. "Can you let me go down? To the end of the road. Can I stand by your side? We can make it alright." He's basically saying he wants to be with her forever. He knows they can make it if she lets him. Then another arrived. "It's a cowardly lion." This is referring back to her new boyfriend. The lyricist thinks he's a coward. He then basically says what he wanted from this world was resolution and for her to wait for him instead of running off with other men. He says he knows she not fair and that he doesn't get it. He doesn't understand why she left him when he loved her and probably did a lot of things for her. He's unhappy in his new relationship and refers to his girlfriend as "straw" pretty much mindless. It's a song about revenge, jealousy, and love. He wants her to take him back.

I hate to be one of those people squashing your opinion but Red is terrible and if they ever got ahold of one of Ben Burnley's drunken masterpieces I would go on such a rant
So is this song about an abusive relationship while using references to the Wizard of Oz to describe it, or am I and a few other people I've seen in comments and in other places looking too deep into the lyrics?
Ben is such a phenomenal song writer. You usually have to dig a little to really get it. I would put him up there with Ozzy and James Hetfield in that regard.

Too bad they haven't put out an album this good throughout their entire career. I bought this when it was first released, before anyone had ever heard of them, and everyone I played it for hated it, until they became a huge success, then they changed their tune. I listened to this CD for over a year straight! Couldn't get enough of it!
Having lived in Kansas my whole life this song always has meant something special to me it's like wizard of Oz was set in Kansas this song is called home and Kansas is my home
When i was a kid there were times when i was watching the wizard of oz I thought how i wish i could escape reality and go down the yellow brick road. Maybe its a common thought.
i think all the newer bb is better they jave gotroma alot bettet this cd ia stil great ots kust not in my top 10 4 of tjeor cd are i tjink theor first 2 cd are there worst thats rare for a band to gwt better again this cd is amazing its just not super amazong like phobia phobia is a 10 bark befpre dawn os a 9 im half this cd is still an 8 so im not complaing tjey just got better. for some reason ben sounds like bush a little in some of the songs on this anyone else realize that

Agreed. Uh... Just warning you, your username is a major trolling target. Watch out. Not making threats, just saying. BUT HEY, way to go at being out there with your beliefs! That's devotion!
Seriously, Benjamin Burnley is the only one who can write a song about "the wizard of oz" and make it sound awesome.
He's not really talking about The Wizard of Oz he's just using it as a reference
Abso-fkn-lutely
The metaphor is awesome. Thank You Breaking Benjamin ❤️
Hahaha
Idk how many times I've listened to this without realizing that it's the wizard of oz
The extended play version of "Home" is also phenomenal!

Yeah I love the seemingly endless vacuous whining this album portrays
Easily Breaking Benjamin's best song imo. I listened to this song every day when I was deployed to Afghanistan in 2010. This shit got me through.
i bet. this song gives me the feeling to fight on. (honestly most of BB’s songs get me like this🤷🏾♂️)
This should've been played at the end of Oz the Great and Powerful and not that Marian Carey bullsh**.
Or at the end of SciFi's Tin Man. That was a great tv movie, and back when SyFy had good movies
Great idea on how to make an objectively shitty movie even more unbearable
This song would be great for every 2002-2004 film

So is this song about an abusive relationship while using references to the Wizard of Oz to describe it, or am I and a few other people I've seen in comments and in other places looking too deep into the lyrics?

Ben is such a phenomenal song writer.
You usually have to dig a little to really get it.
I would put him up there with Ozzy and James Hetfield in that regard.
LET'S FCKIN DO THIS
1. Had enough.
2. Into the nothing.
3. I will not bow.
4. Shallow bay.
5. Dear agony.
Don't know why people ar listing their top BB songs but oh well
1. Phase
2. Natural Life
3. Sugarcoat
+Daniel Walker all of them are too good, but some that stand out to me a lot are crawl, sugarcoat, phaze and diary of jane. i k
I bet this shit was totally a phase for you
Reminds me of “Swing Swing” by The All American Rejects.
I've got a little red bow
And I bought it for you
'Cause I know you're not fair
I don't get it, oh well
And you color my skin
And the colors don't blend
'Cause I'm gonna get you
And your little dog too
There's a yellow brick road
That we follow back home
And I know you can't wait
Your belligerent hate
There's no place like home
There's no place like home
Like home
Like home
I've, got a southern belle too
And a ruby red shoes
With a body of straw
Are you sick of it all?
There's a man made of tin
With an oil can grin
And I'm gonna get you
And your little dog too
There's a yellow brick road
That we follow back home
And I know you can't wait
Your belligerent hate
There's no place like home
There's no place like home
There's a little white porch
And you wanted it so
Can you let me go down?
To the end of the road
In the black and the white
A technicolorful life
Can I stand by your side?
We can make it alright
Like home
'Cause I'm home
There's a little white porch
And you wanted it so
Can you let me go down?
To the end of the road
In the black and the white
A technicolorful life
Then another arrived
It's a cowardly lion
What I want from this world
What I wanna resolve
When I want you to stay
So I want you to wait
I don't wanna be bold
I don't wanna be cold
I don't wanna grow old
And I wanna go home!
great song for sure
I love Breaking Benjamin. Pretty freaking awesome if you ask me
No more belligerent hate. May God wash it all away in endless flames 🔥

Agreed. Uh... Just warning you, your username is a major trolling target. Watch out. Not making threats, just saying. BUT HEY, way to go at being out there with your beliefs! That's devotion!
