I don't care what you call it or where its at when it cooks. Stuffing/dressing with gravy is my favorite part of the meal, besides the pumpkin pie with lots of whipped topping.
Funny story. My exMIL decided not to make dressing for Thanksgiving one year. Saving calories ya know. The problem was, her SIL was on WW and had been saving up her "points" for the entire week so that she could eat her favorite Thanksgiving dish. She was devastated not to have dressing for her dinner😥😅
I grew up on my grandmother's cornbread dressing ... part cornbread, part Sunbeam bread, all torn into pieces ( never cut). Broth, eggs, onions, celery ,salt and pepper and a little sage. She never measured anything so I still can't make it as good as hers. My SIL comes close after watching Mamaw make it a couple of times. I did the same with her chicken and dumplings, but still not the same. I think she added extra love to her "recipes" ❤
I make my bread for stuffing as needed. I think its important to know what is in my food due to allergies. Im allergic to corn.UGH. but knowing what is in my food and no preservative's means everything to our family. I love your video"s!!!!
I love the idea of adding sage to the bread dough, gonna have to give that a try. Dressing requires cornbread in my neck of the woods. I was an adult before I learned people used wheat bread in theirs. Learning new things is awesome.
Sage is definitely a must! Your bread looks amazing & I agree w/Phil - any way sounds good, even just buttered. 😋 Can I come to your house for Thanksgiving? Thank you Leisa!
I can see making a batch of all loaves and gifting it to family that can't be at our table this year. I can just imagine the looks on their faces when I tell them it's NOT for Turkey Day but for the day after leftovers. Not telling them why it's special, let it be a surprise.
Ever tried fried dressing? Instead of putting your dressing in the pan and baking it you pat out patties and fry til brown on each side. Totally changes the taste. So good! That was the only way they made it at my granny’s house on Thanksgiving
Thank you Leisa!!! I’m baking my own bread for dressing and this gave me some great ideas!! Love baking it on. Cookie sheet! Brilliant!!!! Thanks for all you do!!!
The bread looks awesome! My question is, how do you make the actual stuffing/dressing. I've always made cornbread dressing, never bread dressing like my mom made. Would like a good bread dressing recipe.
I'm a Baby Boomer and everything growing up was processed foods, but I don't think Stove Top Stuffing came around until I was at least in my teens. My mother never made bread. We usually had Wonder Bread. Anyway, a month or so before Thanksgiving, she would start saving the heels of the bread and putting them in the freezer. We would have a lot of heels by Thanksgiving. The day before Thanksgiving, they would all come out of the freezer. Thanksgiving morning, she would put the turkey neck on the stove the simmer in a little water. We would start cubing up all the heels, add chopped onions, eggs and poultry seasoning and then moisten it with the turkey neck water. She would stuff it in the turkey and, as a child, it was my favorite Thanksgiving dish.
Thank you for this. I'm in the South and was raised by deep country southerners. So it's cornbread dressing for us and my family would riot if I didn't make cornbread dressing using the old family recipes. That being said, my sage is loving it's life. It is taking over it's planting area. Putting sage in the bread is an amazing idea. It will make amazing "day-after-thanksgiving" sandwiches. It's a toss up for me as to which is better - the turkey day feast and the after thanksgiving turkey sandwich. Sometimes I think I roast a turkey just so I can have enough turkey for the day (days) after!! I'm definitely putting sage in the homemade bread this year!!!!!!!!!
I’m 70 next month and grew up with 7 siblings. We tore loaves of bread in pieces for Thanksgiving stuffing. Everything (just about) was homemade. I do the same here in my home.
I wonder if I could roll out the dough cinnamon bun style, but instead of the sugar/spice mix, use any pre-made or leftover stuffing/dressing as the filling.Cut and bake then serve with warmed gravy instead of icing.
God bless you , Mrs.leisa , I bet Mr.Phil loves it , My grandmother grew up in the depression so luckily, I grew up with a lot of home cooked meals, and by my living father , also fishing , gardening and hunting in Alabama after he got home from Vietnam War. But even at 58 yrs old I still love learning each & every day New techniques and recipes. Big thanks Josette Tharp Montgomery County, Texas 🙏 Yeap had turkey stuffed back in the day , plus Turkey with stuffing outside the cavity as my sons didn't like the stuffing in my bird ...lol they said it was to mushy lol...
Thank you for sharing this recipe! I can't wait to give it a try....and...I have a few ideas for additions....celery salt instead of plain salt, turkey or chicken broth...or vegie broth instead of the water....omg....slather it with butter and some cranberry sauce....I'm drooling! Yes, you may borrow this idea lol
Love to watch you Leisa, but I have to say, this southern gal has have cornbread dressing. My former, not my ex, I laws were from Cincinnati. He was in the military and that's how they ended up here in south central Texas. Anyhow I have had what they and I referred to as "yankee" dressing lol which is made like you make it with bread only. I will say the flavor was good, but I just couldn't handle the texture.
Lol what the heck who cares how you use the rolling pin 😂😂 Loved the recipe, will try it! I have LOTS of sage from some beautiful plants that went nuts in my garden this summer
Oh Lordy, that looks amazing! And your rolling pin skills are on par, considering you’re working with a double dough ball there … I use the same technique 😉 Thanks for recipe and tips 😊
I have never made homemade stuffing, I've only used Stovetop. Do you have a recipe for making the actual stuffing? I downloaded the stuffing bread recipe, but what else gets added to make your stuffing/dressing ?
My home was not a home made home either, my mom cooked but it was a lot of the NEW food, I.e. tv dinners and the like. I learned myself and we eat very few premade things if any. Thanks for all your videos
You do you darlin! I usually buy Pepperidge Farms….stuffing mix…..I always stuff my turkeys…..I’m going to try this for Thanksgiving this year! I’m excited about it!!! I just can’t wait!!!! I want to try it now!!! We can never have enough stuffing!! (I’m so southern it scares my AZ born husband! LOL). How can you not at least try it???? Gonna add onions, sage, garlic, celery, parsley….all good stuffings…..Can’t have a turkey without stuffing it! Love you lady! Thank you! I can’t wait to try it!!!!!! ❤️❤️❤️
I made another loaf last weekend from your old video, (I at least double the spices-except garlic, it can inhibit the yeast), I cubed it all up and made The. Most. Awesome. croutons!!
Ok i have never made stuffing from scratch before and would love to start. What do I do with this after the cubes dry out? What do you add to the bread cubes to turn it into stuffing?
Ok, so based on how big the turkey, Saute onions and celery, add chicken stock, then pour over the stale bread. Probably 1-2 cups depending on how big the turkey is. You're wetting the bread, not making paste. Take the stuffing mix and put it in the bird or a baking dish. I also add poultry seasoning to the mixture.
Leisa. I am very impressed! I would not have thought that the bread would have turned out so well without letting the bread rise once, punch down and shape and rise again. I am going to try that. A tip that will ensure a light loaf is to make sure your flour has at least 12 percent protein. The protein forms the gluten. I tried making bread with Great Value AP flour and it just didn't rise properly. It took a lot of ruined loaves throwing away perfectly good yeast, etc. I did a lot of research and discovered the problem. I started making bread before bread flour was a thing. Never had a problem using AP flour.
Leisa you are so industrious. I'm very impressed. My dressing has onion, celery, sage, salt and pepper. Then I brown some sausage and that is my more recent change to my mom's dressing. Then water or broth and an egg beat up.
I don't care what you call it or where its at when it cooks. Stuffing/dressing with gravy is my favorite part of the meal, besides the pumpkin pie with lots of whipped topping.

I always saved leftover bread, let it sit for half a day in the air, tear it up and freeze it.
Me too! Not sure I’ve ever had stove top stuffing?
Yay for the use of butter powder. I have two cans and am always looking for ways to use it!

When I grew up most everything was homemade except the bread. But all the pies were.

Wowzer. If people are commenting on your rolling technique while watching your videos they are missing the wealth of information you impart.
Thank you so much for this idea. I made my sourdough this way and this was the BEST dressing I've ever made!
I grew up with stuffing was white bread & dressing was cornbread. My mom also made stuffing, ha

I love the heels, best part...I could eat a whole loaf of bread.

i am so blessed i grew up home cooked and home is always better lol. and back then my mom didnt have big mixer she did her bread by hand .
I'm 70, did mine by hand as well.
I’m 70 next month and grew up with 7 siblings. We tore loaves of bread in pieces for Thanksgiving stuffing. Everything (just about) was homemade. I do the same here in my home.

That's a fine looking loaf of bread.

Fresh bread
Sage Sausage
Apples
Pecans
Dried cranberries
Chicken stock
Celery
Onions (white or yellow)
That bread would be awesome broken up into a bowl with gravy over it.
Oh yes!
I use my Presto ceramic Belgian waffle iron to make stuffing waffles for leftover turkey and gravy. So delicious ❤ Works best with homemade stuffing.

I like the crockpot stuffing recipe on the back of the box. Wonder if I can make the bread instead.....
Never liked Stovetop. Homemade is best. Mom used Pepperidge Farm herb crumbs
Now I'm jealous of your big red That's-a-bowl! I have it in white and blue but now I'm in love with the red😅
Another great video. I think I could make 1 loaf at a time. Love 💕 and Hugs. ❤❤❤

Baked well done
You made some Beautiful bread there lady. You have changed my costly ways😎
Actually baking 2 loaves French bread right now, in the oven and smells so good

I like adding the sage to the bread. Thanks for the reminder and TBE recipe.
I always make homemade stuffing, really it is so much better home made.
That looks so easy and delicious. Thank you. You are a Blessing that teaches.

I save the heels from bread, bought or homemade, in the freezer and use them for stuffing.
I make stuffing with pork sausage apple and cranberry. Along with the usual butter celery and onion. 😊
Great idea!
And if you live in New England you pour in the Bells seasoning😆
I will use sage sausage sometimes too. Every year is an adventure 😅
I put apples onion butter celery, sometimes sausage in my stuffing w fresh parsley, sage, poultry seasoning, so good!

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Uncle Roger does not approve of your love for olive oil!
Hey..if one just so happened to have a friend bring her the “Everything but the Leftovers” seasoning could that be used in place of the salt and sage?
Absolutely
Can't wait for your cookbook! Wow!
No stove top allowed in this house, ever!
I feel like a snob! Who would put stove top stuffing in a turkey for thanksgiving 😳😂
A lot of people, and that is their choice and its fine if thats what they want
I love the idea of sage in the bread!!
Is it possible to make butter powder by dehydrating butter? Can you dehydrate dairy?
No, you cannot dehydrate butter or dairy
Stove top shmove top! Lol so cute!
Oh so dangerous!!!! 😁😋😛😅
May I ask what brand of yeast you used? It was amazingly lively!
SAF
