Hi Terry, I went to empty the dryer when the cycle had finished (so the timer had reached 0 and the machine was off) and heard a faint humming/buzzing similar to the one on the video but quieter. The machine has two heat settings, with a push button for hotter; pressing that button in stopped the buzzing sound.
Is this still likely to be the capacitor? (Obviously I know there might be limits as to what you can diagnose with limited information). Just wondering if a buzzing is always the capacitor or if the fact the buzzing stops when I change the temperature setting indicates some other problem.

Hi. Does the drum rotate when you press start? if yes then the capacitor is fine. If the drum does not rotate and you hear a buzzing similar to that in the video thrn it is highly likely the capasitor. Without seeing it I could not say. Is it a condenser dryer or vented? can you provide a model number?

@@tornadotez unfortunately I just panicked and unplugged it. It's vented. I'll check if it turns tomorrow and get a model number. Thanks for replying

Hi Terry - thanks for making the video I used it to change mine - but still not working
One of my kids trainers got jammed in there and the belt had sheared off - which I changed - and then had heard the buzzing sound so assumed it was the capacitor which I also changed (I've tried two new capacitors just in case of the new ones was a dud)
My tumbledryer however still hums - If I turn the drum a good few rotations its will spin on its own for a short time until it need to change direction then it stops - I also took the belt off to test and same applied if I manual spin the motor spindle it flies around but won't start on it own.....could you shed any light on that for me please?
    its a vented hotpoint tvfm70bgp

Hi. Firstly, you didn't buy the part from me! but putting that aside, usually if the drum doesn't turn but is spins when you give it a shove, it is definitely the capacitor that is at fault. you said that the belt had sheared, is there any of the sheared belt still wrapped around the motors shaft? if you put your hand inside the drum how easy is it to turn by hand? what rated capacitor did you fit? this will start with a number then uf, e.g 7uf, what is the model number?

Hi Terry - I didn't say I brought the part from you - I just saw your video on how to fit the part and assumed it was uploaded for all@@tornadotez
The belt was a clean break and haven't noticed any residue left over
The drum spins with some effort but not a great deal, it doesn't continue spinning freely when Its will slow to a stop quickly
The capacitor was like for like than that of the one of removed - Ducati 9.5uF C00275351

@@ben_davies10 HHhhmmm seems there is something making the drum difficult to spin. you say there was a trainer jammed in there, where was it jammed? at the front? if so it could be something damaged where the front of the drum sits. there is a felt bearing and also front bearing pads, it could have damaged either or both of those. You will need to lift the drum out to get to it. If this is beyond your capabilities, you will need an engineer to check it for you. I could have a look for you depending on where you are.

it’s was jammed between one of the fins and the glass part of the door
I did take the front part of the drum off to get the belt over, so it had crossed my mind I hadn’t put it back on correctly
but i have took the belt off of the motor so there was no resistance and turned the dryer on to see if the motor would spin on its own but still hums unless I twist the spindle, so it made me think it’s wasn’t the drum
