    Thanks worked a treat, like others have said the belt was a mission. I stretched it whilst on the drum by pulling hard with both hands rotating the drum a bit then stretch that section a bit. Careful not to damage the drum as the outside sheet metal is quite thin. Cheers for the save of a perfectly good, old machine. I'm in the wife's good books again 😂

    Many thanks and congratulations to Mat and eSpares for this brilliant video.
    I am a total novice, and had never attempted anything like this before. Step by step guide absolutely superb to follow, and no belt stretching needed when I took note of the angle Mat used the screwdriver to lever the belt on initially. And out of gratitude and loyalty for the great video I had obviously used eSpares for the new belt, so it may be that other suppliers use copycat belts that aren't quite right?
    The only thing I noticed that wasn't mentioned during the video was that the belt is grooved on one side, and it is that side that needs to fit onto the spindle. But you could argue that anyone not able to spot that from the groove marks on the drum, and the ridges on the spindle, shouldn't be trying to repair a belt in the first place. :)
    Brilliant - thanks again...

      Yes, I’m paying for it today. My hands and back are knackered. I thought that pre-heating the belt on one of the rads in the house would help. I was wrong. 😆. Still thanks very much for such a great video, i don’t think I would have even attempted to fix the dryer without it. Despite all the effort it took, I’m dead chuffed with myself for repairing it. One working dryer.

    Excellent. Thank you very much. Once I had got the belt on the drum, the worst bit is stretching the belt over the motor spindle. Used a long strong screwdriver. I was sure the belt was going to break, but it went on. Phew!! Once again, thank you.

    Just completed this job, but only after two attempts. When I first got the belt fitted it was so tight it was bending the motor mount and causing the fan to foul its housing. After concluding I may have the wrong belt I double checked the order and found it was the correct part. I then decided to stretch the belt for a while and try again (Used a piece of 2x1 to lever it away from the drum and apply the stretch). Tried again and this time it went on a bit easier and the fan didn't foul anymore. I used a screwdriver to ease the belt around the shaft. Let's hope the job lasts a while. Very useful video but there are fixing screws for the side panel behind the bottom panel (clips out from the top) and behind the fascia at the top, the panel has to slide back for removal (mine needed a kick). It eases the refit if you bend the lugs up a bit before sliding it in. Job done with only two screws left over ;)

    Excellent video and many thanks for making the job so much simpler! I found no need to stretch the belt, provided you use the screwdriver to leverage it onto motor spindle (as shown). My only complaint was slicing my finger, good and deep, on the outer casing 🙄!

    Excellent tutorial. .thanks.First few attempts to fit the belt onto the spindle using a long screwdriver failed as screwdriver shaft was bending with the force required to stretch the belt so, after some moderate swearing, switched to a sturdy long spanner and then worked a treat albeit with more effort required than it appeared on your video.

    This video really needs to include something about the need to stretch the belt before putting it on the device. I only found out after a long period of time and effort, followed by checking the reviews for these belts on Amazon. It was only reading those reviews, that I found out you're supposed to stretch the belt before you put it on. I realise this may not be true of every model, but the Terminator himself would have failed to get this on without stretching it first. 100% the correct belt for this device - but 100% necessary to stretch it a lot.
    The rest of the info is tip-top, can't fault it. Thank you for the video, but I would suggest adding a disclaimer or something about this, as people aren't going to know otherwise.

    • @eSpares
      @eSpares  7 років тому +1

      Another cause of a burnt belt can be if the motor capacitor fails the motor can stall and get hot. Change the motor capacitor if you have ever had a slow starting or stalling drum. Good luck with the repair, stretching the new belt can be a bit of a struggle.

    I purchased from espares but can't fit the belt - where this machine has a gaping hole in front of the belt motor, the spindle on my Hotpoint doesn't have an end that I can get to. The spindle goes straight through the motor/fan into a sealed off section that I can't open. This video doesn't show the vital section of how to get the spindle's end accessible. Any ideas?

    • @eSpares
      @eSpares  5 років тому

    There doesn't seem to be any sort of bearing at the rear of the drum (hot point VTD00 ).
    1. How do I locate the rear properly?
    2. Wouldn't it be easier to place the new belt over the rear, than over the front, of the drum?

      Hi Martyn, depending on production your machine will either have a square or teardrop shaped bronze bearing shown as item 1 or 2 in the list here:
      www.espares.co.uk/search?SearchTerm=vtd00p%20bearing
      It is often easier to fit the belt down the back of the machine if you have removed the split pin and collar on the drum shaft.

    Would this work on a Indesit condenser dryer?

      We believe the process should be fairly similar for other appliances.

    Gosh i bought a belt and new bearing - followed your great plan only to discover the belt had jumped its tensioner wheel - must be that wet shower mat clonking it

    hi e spares i ordered a drive belt for a indesit tumble dryer model idv75 the belt i recieved was a drive belt 1860 .the problem im having is getting the belt on the spindle. it is tight. .the video was spot on but icant get the belt on the spindle.any advice please

    • @eSpares
      @eSpares  8 років тому +1

      Hi Fred, it sounds like you have the right belt but it is very tough to stretch into position especially with a new belt. The easiest method for you to do is that shown at 3:58 Use the longest screwdriver you have and make a few 'stretching' movements first before trying to pass it onto the spindle. Be careful not to catch your fingers when doing this and persevere as it can be a struggle.

    Why do dryer makers use such narrow belts? Aren't those undersized??

      Hi MrGiboz24, thank you for your post but not a question we can answer as that should be directed at the manufacturers but if you get an answer please post it as we are interested.

    did this on my tumbler, but the drum now rests on the motor and sqeaks as it spins. the drum didn't seem to sit on anything previously and dropped when i lent the front forward. any ideas?

    • @eSpares
      @eSpares  9 років тому

      +M Graham The video shows from 2:50 as the drum is lifted away the felt seal that the drum lip covers. The drum rests on the bearing slides at the front. It is important to lift the drum onto this. Another video that may make this clearer is:
      ua-cam.com/video/tu5mALFghqw/v-deo.html

    • @cannonf0dder927
      @cannonf0dder927 9 років тому

      +eSpares thanks for the link. drum sits fine on the seal. however it looks as though we were given a drum with no shaft. would explain why the back dropped onto the motor

    • @eSpares
      @eSpares  9 років тому

      +M Graham If the rear bearing wears through the drum shaft can be cut through by the rear panel. The other video shows how to fit a shaft kit to your drum and resolve your problem:
      ua-cam.com/video/tu5mALFghqw/v-deo.html

    • @cannonf0dder927
      @cannonf0dder927 9 років тому

      +eSpares have replaced the shaft twice now. each time the shaft is cut clean through and the drum drops. time for a new machine? or are there some really strong shafts somewhere out there?

    • @eSpares
      @eSpares  9 років тому

      +M Graham The trick is to check the rear bearing to see when it has worn through. If the last one lasted 24 months before totaly wearing through check after 12 months and replace if required the bronze bearing. This will be a lot easier than replacing the shaft git 12 months later. :-)

      Hi Ricardas, it is common for this type of issue on Hotpoint dryers as they wear over time, we have a video that is helpful on replacing the drum shaft ua-cam.com/video/tu5mALFghqw/v-deo.html

    • @eSpares

      Hi Ian, 'Aquarius' is a range of models not a specific machine.
      If it is a vented dryer it should be very similar, if it is a condenser dryer it will be more like this video: ua-cam.com/video/snWjzoV6HjI/v-deo.html

    It would be worth mentioning on here that anyone watching this video owning a similar dryer should be aware of the current safety recall to rectify the potential fire hazard on all Hotpoint, Creda and Indesit Vented and Condenser Driers manufactured between 2004 and 2015. This will also affect other branded dryers such as SWAN, who used Merloni's manufacturing plant to produce their goods, but as yet have not issued their own recall. Please find more information at www.hotpoint.co.uk

      +Rich Lucas Thanks for the comments Rich, we never allow links to other websites in our comments but as this is a potential safety issue have made an exception this time. We are aware of the recall and produced our warning video to alert viewers here:

      We are happy to share the information but may have to take your post down if it does not go direct. :-)

    don t dry shoes,this is the way i burned the belt...the shoe jammed between door and wings inside

    • @eSpares
      @eSpares  7 років тому +1

      Some dryers have a special rack to allow shoes or woolens to be placed inside without tumbling. It is not a good idea generally to have a heavy item like a trainer bouncing around either a dryer or washing machine as you found out it can cause damage. 😊
