My longest ride in one day ever was 201.38 miles and as you Brits say...."I was completely Knackered!" Cannot imagine 240 avg miles per day on just 5 hrs of sleep....what a beast! Great Job Mark, hope your record stands for a long time.

Hats off and salutations to Mark and his entire team and entourage. Although he suffered greatly, I very much doubt anyone involved in the feat didn't go through hell along with him as well. It was a monumental effort by everybody involved and they should all be equally praised.

Its great to receive advice myself from Mark Beaumont on his facebook page. Also with a plan to cycle round the world but not for the 80 day record or traditional route, I plan by July 2019 first weekend to start in Prudhoe Bay Alaska, head for San Fransisco or carry on to Argentina, up cape Town to Cairo, then Europe into Asia, cross Perth to Sydney, then Australia, then New Zealand and maybe Japan. Though I plan to travel as a nomad. Cycle. Busk. Work, meet people on the way.
So I've 3/4 built a surly disc trucker already with a Rohloff hub and dynamo lights, a Busch and muller light and E Werk device that charges off the dynamo to power and charge all the devices on the move. The idea is with A rohloff hub that costs £1000 I can ride over 100,000 miles with no servicing on gears besides oil changes and then many more miles.
Mark previously used a Rohloff on his last trip. Amazingly after 20 years of designing and producing their own German made hubs, rohloff still dont know the true life span of the product but believe it can and will outlive the cyclist. The internals cannot fail from overuse or over even overloading the bike. I'd recommend these hubs to anyone besides the price they do pay off.
I plan to start my trip on my Surly Disc trucker with a Beautiful Jones H Loop Bar strangely on The Ice roads of Alaskas Dalton Highway on the arctic circle in winter though Like Iohan Georgiev did on his ride to Argentina. His documentary called I Want To See The World is inspiring to say the least

Can I just take the time to say what a decent chap Mark is? It was that pat on the back he gave Simon when they met up. And his appreciation of the crew as not just vital workers but as good company. Mark has every right to have a huge ego about his accomplishments, but he looks like the kind of guy who would stop and help someone cross the road.

Mark Beaumont is truely amazing. Even hitting 130 miles a day on tour I wouldn't want to attempt 240 and live off less than 6 hours sleep for 3 months. What he has done cannot be explained by any other living person. I reckon he could break Tommy Godwin's record of 75000 miles in a year like this. Godwin rode 200 day but his record in the UK remains unbroken since 1937

Why doesn't anybody (and Mark in particular) mention Mike Hall (rip)? He did the same stretch years ago, in little under 92 days, UNSUPPORTED! This mean he bought his own food, slept in his own bivy, serviced his own bike, massaged his own legs or neck, navigated his own route, performance-coached himself and filmed his own blog. A far greater and more heroic effort.
