    I see many people ask about this often...so I thought I would talk about why you should NOT keep male and female domestic betta splendens as well as males and males together. Keep your fishy friends safe in their own tank or behind a sturdy divider! :D

      Creative Pet Keeping hey I have 3 bettas temporarily in my 5 gallon tank. All of them are juveniles but the male is the oldest. The females are fine with each other but the make won't stop chasing the females around. He is in a net right now and I don't want to keep him in there and I want them to be stressed until there old enough to go in the 55 gallon. One of my female keeps getting stress stripes. Lost_ xBoy All he's doing is flaring his fins to impress the female to become mates. Unless he has a bubble nest and the female has eggs, they aren't ready to breed. It would've been better for the male to be introduced to the female so the female won't be too stressed

    Not suggesting anybody do this but when i was younger I had rescued two beta's (males) and kept them together. They lived together and lived the maximum lifespan of a Beta. Sometimes you luck out and sometimes you don't. If you cant resist yourself, pick betas that are the least aggressive to the others in the store. Dont pick the 'pretty beta' who is flaring at all the others if you dont want it to die

    ive got a young female red bettta in with a huge blue crowntail male and they are good,in a 30 gal and she takes a floating nest on one half and he keeps his nest on the other side, he is a gentleman and comes to flares to her then runs to his nest trying to get her to come into it, over and over. most of the time they just chill in their nests or and often they let the other swim around at leisure. they aint stressed any more than the lonely betta in a 1 gal, probably less since they get some social time. neither ever seems scared, if they chase, if one stops they dont nip or hit the other, they just stop and get some air then go their own way

    In some of my cases, i keep males & females together. they dont even care about each other! its like the male thinks the female is just some random fish passing by! Only in some cases, you can keep bettas together. I understand that bettas can be in high stress when kept together, but that only happens if the tank is overstocked or one fish is aggressive. But when i change my water, the male gets REALLY aggressive. is it because he was in stress and he forgot about the passing females? Or was it his natural instinct to breed during the "rainy season?" BTW, I keep my betta SPLENDENS in pairs, not sororities.

      You can breed them but it's very dangerous, if you want to I recomend doing research before throwing them in a tank together and hoping for the best, as that could go really bad and the male could end up killing the female. But it doesn't mean you can't breed them it's just kind of a whole process, so I wish you luck .

    • @evil2862

      You have to put the female in a little jar or small tank and put her (while still inside the jar or tank) inside the males tank and leave them for 2 days (the more the better) because this way the male falls in love with the female, then put the female in with the male without a divider or a jar or small tank and leave them.you should put a half of half of a styrofoam cup; so cut the cup longways and then cut half of that. Then the bettas will put the eggs there, once the eggs are there take out the female and leave the male and the male will care for the eggs and will eat the ones that don’t work, once the baby bettas are born the male will bring them to the bottom or half of the tank so they can swim up to their surface and learn how to swim (this might look like he’s eating them but trust me he’s not). Feeding the baby bettas is the hard part and you’ll have to research that.

    • @fakiirification

      best way is in a bucket. i like the round shallow ones you get at the auto parts for oil changes. fill it with dechlorinated water to about half. tape a small 3x3 inch piece of bubble wrap so that it stays floating against one side of the bucket. then boil and add a few catapa or Indian almond leaves till the water turns a light tea color. put the male in. then place the female in a cup and put it down in the water so that they can see each other and get used to the idea. feed both of them live food, daphnia or baby brine shrimp. once you see the male start to create his bubble nest under the bubble wrap piece, you can release the female into the main water. keep a watch on them for the next 10 hours. once the female is finished releasing eggs, remove the female immediately, as she will eat the eggs, and the male will attack her to protect them. a few days later the eggs will hatch. leave the male in for another day or so, as he will help with babies swim and stay in the nest (it looks like hes eating them, but hes really just sucking them up and spitting them back out into the bubble nest.) once all the babies are swimming good, you can take the male out and start raising the spawn on live microfood, brine shrimp is easiest to culture but you can also grow daphina. good luck.

    I had two males and a female together and they were doing just fine why do people always assume it's not going to work you just have to have a big tank and have a lot of hiding places and just do research

    • @leolubert6738

      z alex it's better to be safe than sorry, a beginner on anything usually doesn't do full research especially on a pet that has been told the wrong information about it in chain stores. If there is someone who really is passionate about this (like you) no one is stopping them to do it. But I think everyone would rather hear a fish owner doing what's right for their fish than just being told that, "OH YEAH you CAN place a female and male together. " And most cases the vast majority of fish don't work out. It's safer to assume because not all betta fish act the same.

    Hey 1 question about my betta fish i have a 15 gallon tank of 30 or so better fry first time breeding(1 month old) and i have breed another pair and are free swimming for now 2 days whilst the other betts are 1 month old can i put the small bettas with the 15 gal tank or would the other fry eat the smaller fry. What do I do?

    • @CreativePetKeeping
      @CreativePetKeeping  6 років тому +1

      It depends on their size but most likely they will eat the smaller fry as well as stunt the smaller fry with the growth inhibiting hormone. Its best to give each growing out spawn as much room as possible.

    My betta is a veil tale and he will not even tolerate the nerite snails in the tank with him. He will hit them hard enough to knock them over and try to kill them. He seems to understand that he can knock them upside down and eat them. He was trying to eat their shell, but that didn't work out for him. I'm not sure how I'm going to keep algae down, but he does not allow anything in his tank but his live plants that he loves. Granted, once I realized he did that I took the snails out immediately and now have to find the snails a new home.

    it’s a very controversial topic honestly your tank conditions need to be correct you should NEVER house two males together but one male and two females can be okay as well as many females can be okay keep in mind tank needs to be correct or it won’t work

    • @alyssajade4383
      @alyssajade4383 3 роки тому

      many other fish can be kept with both though it’s just fish of the same species you need to be careful

    • @alyssajade4383
      @alyssajade4383 3 роки тому

      keep in mind some males just won’t like having any other fish in the tank some males and some females just prefer to be solitary and that’s fine but you always need to keep this in mind if your trying to start a community tank you fish may not get along and in that case you need to have another tank on hand for the other fish

    I really love your videos and follow several of you great fish youtubers. I have a question about how long to keep the breeding pair together before giving up and trying again later. I have been conditioning them for 2 weeks.. Feeding them bloodworms, brine shrimp and a mix of good pellets. I had them in a divided 10 gal tank while I conditioned them. I put him in the breeding tank first.. Then floated her for an hour or so.. Then released her. He is making a nest and flaring at her but he is not very aggressive.. And she mainly ignores him. Lol. I floated her over night last night bc I didn't want anything to happen while I was sleeping. I released her back into the tank this morning.. Gave them both bloodworms (idk if I shld but didn't want them to be hungry). I put them on opposite end of tank from nest and suck out the uneaten ones carefully. She eats like a pig but he barely eats. Breeding tank is a 5 gal filled a little more than half way. This is such a fun experience for me and my kids.. Any advice or videos you cld point me to wld be great. I've probably watched hours of footage already. Lol. Should I just leave them alone (but watching) until they spawn?

    • @CreativePetKeeping
      @CreativePetKeeping  5 років тому

      My favorite method is to release them at night. Turn the lights off and check back early in the morning and they should start to spawn. Bettas can get easily distracted by humans so sometimes they do best when left alone for a little. If they dont get along the male or female will be hiding in the morning. It also helps to put them together on a rainy day. It makes them think its the rainy season and triggers spawning. I hope this helps!! ❤👍

      @lisarenee3128 5 років тому

      @@CreativePetKeeping Thanks for replying.. I did cover 3 sides of the tank last night and left them alone. They seem to be getting along well but I don't think the female is ready maybe. Either that or I'm intruding on them too much as I don't want to not be around if a fight breaks out. Neither of them seem overly aggressive tho. Anyway.. Hopefully they will do their thing.. We'll see.. Thanks again.

    Question concerning male betta tank next to female betta tank. Had female several months and before I got male she seemed 'eggy' already. First night having new male he's already made a bubble nest for his lady. I suppose mating is a future possibility as they show more interest than aggression through tank glass. But does it cause either one of them stress without a divider? I put a paper between them one night but the next morning he seemed more agitated that he couldn't see her. Don't want to be reading body language wrong.
