30 degrees is not extremely hot for the end of June. As for the holidays: when I was a kid (-60 years or so), my parent loved to go to more sunny places. I remeber all tourists walking on the sunny side of the street, with bright red heads, while we kept in the shadow and the natives did their siestas.

There's a reason for the 'Mad dogs...' saying, us Brits will never change. Well, with the number of people I know who have/had skin cancer, self included, I'd rather cover up than use sunscreen. Always found it's not the temp it's the damned humidity that's the problem. 40+ degrees in the African bush with dry heat is nothing compared to the same in Durban or Honkers with high humidity.

Yup, that humidity is the killer! I remember many a time walking out of the @AlJazeeraEnglish building and my sunglasses instantly steaming up! Or driving with windscreen wipers on because of the humidity.

The real killer especially for older people during a prolonged heat spells is the lack of water (and food). They don't feel they are dehydrating . So in principle it's the lack of care.
The good thing in Britain is that it can be warm during the day for some hours but during the night it cools down enough so you can sleep.
Meanwhile here in cloudy Barcelona 2 km from the beach at 12.15 h it's 24ºC and a 61% humidity.

Got to 50°C where I grew up. All in perspective, isn't it?

Almost 50% of Junes reach 30C at least once.
