Four minutes of Ann Widdecombe and Matthew Wright going at each other about Brexit | LBC

- Опубліковано 27 січ 2024
- Matthew Wright speaks to former Brexit Party MEP, Ann Widdecombe, about whether it's time to apologise for Brexit. Despite the suggestion, Widdecombe stands firm, asserting that she harbours no regrets about Brexit, except for concerns related to its execution.
Tensions rise during the discussion as the ex-Tory MP accuses Wright of being rude and interrupting her, ultimately prompting Widdecombe to end the conversation.

I find it hilarious when these people who led the charge of the Brexit brigade talk about doing things 'properly'. Aside from the blatant lies and ludicrous claims they made to convince people to vote in favour of Brexit, the worst thing that they did was not do their jobs properly in working with the EU to reform it and make it into something far better and resilient. Everything they claimed about the EU is evident in the UK parliament also and yet, they have no problems with that. They are nothing more than hypocrites.

I honestly think the referendum shouldn't have gone ahead until we actually had a "vision" in writing on the table, because it seems that no one in the Leave voting side had a single clue what it was they wanted. I think that's an important point for any big decision. Who are the players and who is paying for it?
Sadly, following the money rarely provides any comfort.
You're absolutely right. I live in a country where Amendment to the Constitution requires approval by Referendum.
We have a Referendum Commission, who engages Senior Counsel, to write up the case, for and against, and that is delivered, by post, to every registered mailing address.
It is also quite common, for our Government to publish the Heads of the Bill they would introduce in the legislature, if the Referendum is passed.
And even with those levels of information and preparation, I would still advise against using Referendum as a mechanism for approval of any great national issue on a single question.
It's far too ' binary ' , at a point where the issue is still far too unforeseeable.
Even a two stage Referendum would have served you better.
Referendum No 1 :- In, or Out, provisional.
Referendum No 2:- If Out have won, provisionally, here's the Heads of the Withdrawal Agreement.
If that's defeated, no exit.
