Ya. though I am a Chinese, I got to say the Japanese are great music composers. Their music always bring out the soul in music.

Japan are giants when it comes to film and television music. They even take anime soundtrack seriously.
As for China, I only know Tan Dun. Many of their big films this one included outsources the music to Japanese and Hollywood composers.

I know the composer is Japanese, and I think that the musical score is so beautiful and uplifting! I am Chinese from this region where the Red Cliff battle was fought. Happy for the film, I hope the composer, Taro Iwashiro, gets the credit for it!
