They say 10% of new BJJ students get their blue belt and out of that 10%, only 1% get their black belt. What an accomplishment, congratulations brother. Been a pleasure digesting all the content and motivation you provide. Keep up the hustle!

in Judo are the same, and from 10-20 person only 1 become coach for Judo. the 1 person is so passionate with Judo.
You're truly inspiring. Didn't know it took you 4 years just to get your blue belt. I've been training for 2 years, going on my 2nd knee surgery (torn meniscus) and seeing this motivated me to come back stronger and be an example, just like you are. Congratulations again
Tore my meniscus and it took me 4 years to get motivated enough to give BJJ another try. Recently got my blue belt! Never give up!

The black belt journey seems almost impossible for a guy like Jeff because his striking is so good. To achieve black belt shows a special amount of bandwidth while becoming so proficient in other aspects of fighting. They say 1 percent make it to black belt but as a striking, MMA, and Muay Thai specialist I think Jeff is in 0.01 percent of the population. Most black belts are no where near him as a striker.

I'm a recent BJJ black belt myself. I would roll with this guy fine and then get killed if we actually fought. Multiple skills sets at that level are rare and amazing.

Damn, Jeff! Congratulations on both your newly acquired and hard sought after BJJ Black Belt as well as your move to New York. Years ago, my Krav Maga instructor Avital Zeisler also made the move to NY and she hasn't looked back since. It's a huge market area for martial arts and I know you'll do well there with your own academy. Congratulations again.

Genuinely inspired by this video - fantastic work! I'm relatively new to martial arts in general (~1.5 years training) and sometimes I start feeling impatient with myself, questioning why I'm not an expert striker yet, why my wrestling is still in its infant stages, why I'm not yet a blue belt etc. It is extremely easy to compare myself to others all over social media, especially professional fighters, and lose patience with how long the process truly takes. The fact that you've been training BJJ for 12 years is a testament to patience - this really is a lifestyle and there isn't any shortcut to get through it all!

@@MMAShredded there is no technique/contact sparring that I am aware of, but I feel the techniques have a lot of potential. If you do try it, I'd suggest a school from its native country of Korea, where the training there is most likely more traditional

Congrats on the opportunity, i Recently decided I wanted to take Ju Jitsu seriously and so far a month in on the journey, it's hella fun.
But I can tottally relate to the emotions. My TKD school was old school and made me wait ten years before I was even considered for black belt testing, I remember the day of the testing I coulden't even sleep from the excitement. By the time I did the test I felt like a zombie just going through the motions, but luckily it was just enough to pass haha.

This is off topic but, what do you think of kuzure kesa gatame? (broken scarf hold) Is it a good or bad position for high levels in an mma setting?
Some people tell me it's good, some people say it's bad. I can use it on white/blue belts, but I am not good enough to even get to the position against higher belts.

Great video and the first one I've seen from you. Comment about not knowing what to film was funny. I'll have to check out other videos. I'm an old (45 year old) white belt and was wondering what the hand massager and leg compression stuff is and if they help you? I'm looking to help recovery.
It compresses your legs/hands to help with the blood flow! They definitely help me in my recovery
