      Two quick question
      I would love to make this project, but, the easiest way to integrate it into my very simple setup is with an optical audio cable. Do you have any recommendations on what parts I should get to add an optical audio port? I think this is something I am going to look into.
      Also have you played with torching the front panel of wood to make the grain stand out more?

    • @_DSch
      @_DSch 8 років тому

      You can get one of those cheap chineese 5.1 decoders and modify them, they can decode an digital spdif signal (a.k.a signal from an optical audio cable) and output 5.1 channels. With some work you can make the 5.1 output to an 2.1 ;)

    I am 15 and looking at different options for what I want to do after education, working with such beautiful tools and materials plus getting such an amazing product at the end of it really appeals to me.
    If you get a moment it would be very helpful to me if you could explain how you got to where you are now, and benefits / cons to what you do (I am presuming you do it as a bill payer and not just a hobby)

    awesome work bro..
    u might have added some rock wool or glass wool sheets inside the subwoofer cabin..
    it will help u to get more good clean bass response by cutting down the higher freq reflections..also u might hve used a good passive network instead of a capacitor ....
    An inductor coil network can enhance ur subwoofer also it can filter the higher frequencies entering to the woofer.

    Fantastic craftsmanship... but I've been always wondering, when watching your videos, if there is some proper acoustics engineering involved in your projects?

    • @JDs_RandomHandle
      @JDs_RandomHandle 8 років тому +2

      I'm an electrical engineering student and was wondering the same thing. I've built a few simple speakers with copper wire and a magnet; granted they sounded like crap but it worked.

    • @KirbyMeetsAudio
      @KirbyMeetsAudio  7 років тому +23

      Absolutely! But I don't solely focus on getting the best sound possible. I try to find a balance between form and function, using acoustical engineering when needed but still allowing for the project to look good. Theres a lot more forgiveness to speaker design than people think. Thanks for watching!

    • @waynegale2729
      @waynegale2729 7 років тому +13

      Justin Rush when you build speaker cabinets, best to use MDF wood and use a online software to measure the size of your cabinet and spacing of speakers based on the type of speaker drivers you using, to give best acoustic sound.
      you can use a thing layer of pine wood for finishing over the top of the MDF wood for the wood grain look., then use electronic crossover if you can afford it, that's what what high end speaker companies do.
      never use pine for the entire build as pine gives un-natural resonance and inaccurate acoustic bass sound stage. MDF wood is always best used for speaker cabinets.
      I've built many speaker cabinets and every driver is different, so online measure based on driver used is best, as some drivers may be need to be ported and others not.
      this guy just design a cabinet based on wrong materials no measure based on the drivers for accurate acoustic sound either.
      It's going to sound like a small alarm clock radio with lots of distortion and lack of bass.

    • @Harlin67
      @Harlin67 7 років тому +5

      Yes but u can hear distortion, high and low levels if you have semi-decent headphones\speakers, which most people these days have, so hearing it is kind of essential. Without hearing the sound its pointless to even start on a project such as this. Love the vids anyway.
